Kaspersky Total Security 2020

Hi. I just downloaded the newest version of Kaspersky Total Security 2020 and received a message Malwarebytes 3 is incompatible software. 

I'm confused since with 2019 everything worked fine. 

I did not remove Malwarebytes like Kaspersky wanted to but I'm wondering if there are going to be issues.

Same thing just happened to me.  I uninstalled malwarebytes this time.  No matter what I did in the past, no matter what exclusions I put in, Malwarebytes still was blocking kaspersky in some of its applications.  They both seemed to be working okay anyway, and would like to continue using Malwarebytes...but not if somehow it impairs the performance of Kaspersky.

This is not good.

Kaspersky tech support got back to me and said that Malwarebytes 3 will not only cause Kaspersky to malfunction but will also cause freezing issues along with other software issues in Windows 10.

Does Malwarebytes have an update or fix for this or is it time to say goodbye?

Doesn't work alongside Microsoft Security Essentials or Malwarebytes? Kaspersky has been on MY list of AVs that are more trouble than they're worth for a while, but this about puts the tin hat on it!

It's just a legal liability list. Every single antivirus, anti-malware product known. It's Kaspersky or nothing from their point of view. That way if anything happens they can point you to that article. Unless they've specifically added code to conflict on purpose there have always been ways to exclude and have Malwarebytes and Kaspersky work together without issues. Granted, at different times in the product life cycle getting exclusions set correctly has been more complex than desired with Kaspersky.

We're getting in contact with Kaspersky to learn more about this recent change and will share our findings once available. We are not aware of any new issues that may occur with running Malwarebytes and Kaspersky products together.

Note that many Malwarebytes users run both products in conjunction without issue. If you'd still like to install both together, you can simply uncheck "Malwarebytes version 3.x" during installation of the Kaspersky product and proceed from there.

As always, configuring mutual exclusions in both products is often a good preventative measure to mitigate the likelihood of conflicts.

Instructions can be found here for configuring exclusions in Malwarebytes: https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-1130

The main folder exclusions to add are the following:

• C:\Program Files (x86)\Kaspersky Lab
• C:\ProgramData\Kaspersky Lab

You could also add file exclusions for the driver files used by the product, but this is less important than the folders above. Most of the driver file names start with "kl" (e.g. KLIF.sys).

For exclusions in the Kaspersky product, you can find a list of items to add in the following article: https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-1123
To access exclusions, navigate to Settings -> Additional -> Threats and Exclusions -> Manage exclusions.
You may also want to consider adding MBAMService.exe as a trusted application using the "Specify trusted applications" option.

You should also add if possible MBAMService.exe, mbamtray.exe and mbam.exe as trusted applications in Kaspersky if you haven't done so already, but otherwise your exclusions look good to me.

This message by Kaspersky appears on Android as well, for years (now I'm on iOS, but when I had an Android device, I used Kaspersky Internet Security and Malwarebytes together, without any issues), but, as all the other users here have already told you, you can ignore it and there won't be any consequences at all, if you add all the proper exclusions in both programs.

I use Malwarebytes along with Kaspersky (Anti-Virus, so the basic version; after installing the new 2020 version, I didn't receive this message, but nothing changes, after all) from 2013 on Windows and everything is going smoothly since then 👍

Nope, no harm at all, I just wanted to make certain you added the 3 I mentioned as they are the primary ones used for protection, scanning and the main UI components so they're the ones that use the most resources and interact the most with other programs/files on the system.

Hi Jimsarles,  I've been using Kaspersky Internet Security and Malwarebytes since 2008 and for the most part have had no problems, but have noticed over the past year or so that Kaspersky has a tendency to interfere with Malwarebytes Web protection component.  Whether this same conflict exists with Kaspersky's Total Security I don't know.  As for all MBAM's other protection components, I have tested them and they seem to work fine.

That's great, I'm glad to hear that it is working well

I suspect that as in the past, once conclusive data and validated testing results are presented to Kaspersky demonstrating full compatibility between the two applications as Malwarebytes has done in the past that they will once again remove Malwarebytes from their lengthy incompatible software list.  It's simply a matter of proving to them that the two programs can function together in real-time without any issues.

In the meantime please don't hesitate to let us know if you do experience any issues or problems and we'll do our best to assist, but I don't expect any to pop up, and otherwise just enjoy the excellent protection provided by the two applications you've chosen to keep your system secure

Hi,

This is a descriptive post as I tried to include all the important info so it may help others too.

I was going to open a new topic, but I thought it made more sense to continue here so it shows my history to make sure this isn’t a conflict with Kaspersky 2020 (which has been installed on both computers since Sept. 10.)

Firstly, I’m running Windows 10 which I’ve been running for years and I’m certain it’s not a recent windows update since there were’nt installed on any of the computer images I used.

Everything has been great with MalwareBytes since Sept 10 until I downloaded 4.0.4 from the application on Nov 13. (in screenshot below)

I am absolutely 100 percent sure this is MalwareBytes 4.0.4 that is causing the issues below and it took me days to figure this out. One reason I’m 100 percent sure is because it happened on both my desktop and laptop.

In addition, when I finally realized it was MalwareBytes by trial and error and restoring previous computer images with Macrium it was the only program that caused this behavior. 

What confirmed it entirely was when I couldn’t even uninstall MalwareBytes 4.0.4 and I had to find the online tool in a screenshot below to completely uninstall the program. Other programs I tried uninstalling were no problem. Once I used the tool to uninstall it everything was back to normal.

To be even more sure I went ahead and reinstalled the 4.0.4 and all the same issues came back.

I performed these steps on both my desktop and laptop and the same things happened.

Below are the things that occurred after installing it and I may be missing some of them.

1. Programs not able to install like the one below in the screens shot. 

2. Skype freezing.

3. Add/Remove programs not opening.

4. Not being able to open Google Chrome after closing it.

5. Icons disappearing in the taskbar.

6. Desktop icons losing their image.

7. Various freezing and glitches.

8. Not being able to open file explorer.

9. Not being able to uninstall MalwareBytes

10. Programs not closing properly and even after trying to force close with task manager still being open.

12. DropBox not opening.

BTW the 2nd time I tried to uninstall with the tool I couldn't even get the tool to work so I had to restore back to an image without 4.0.4 on it.

I provided screen shots below. I appreciate your help. For now, I am leaving 3.8.3 on my computers until this is resolved.

Since "V3 Exclusions Tab" becomes in V4 ... Settings Cog Wheel at top/ Security/ Exploit Protection/ Manage Protected Applications / Add-Edit-Del  "Protected Apps" .....

Will V3 Exclusion akaTrusted Settings like here be SAVED in the V4 Upgrade as "Protected" Settings - OR Re-enter Same in V4?

Better to know now to keep the  lists handy.

All settings on all three machines I updated to version 4 imported all existing settings correctly
