In my 25 years of IT experience I've never seen such a botch job from a major software vendor. They're effectively crashing/rebooting the computers of all their customers at the moment!

My computer didn't crash or reboot. I killed the service and disabled it. Killed it again a few times, and done. No muss, no fuss.

If you've really had 25 years of IT experience, you'd know that this is an incredibly minor if annoying problem. At this point, it requires nothing but patience. And maybe avoid the porn sites for a while.

Its all a ploy to get people to sign up to their forums I'm sure

Thanks for the laugh, needed it much as I'm furious ATM.

Seriously wish either the spokesperson of Malwarebytes or Marcin himself will explain what went wrong & how they're hoping to prevent this in the future. You simply cannot ruin your users PC outta the blue. I love MBAM guys & I wish to see some accountability/transparency after this has been fixed.

You don't remember the McAfee fiasco about eight years ago where they released a definition update that classified a Windows XP system file as a virus?  Blue Screens of Death for everyone!

Hey everyone,

If you see this I recommend both force closing Malwarebytes and disabling the "Malwarebytes Service" until the issue is fixed.

Windows search > Type in "Services" > look for Malwarebytes Service > Right click > Properties > Change "Startup type" to Disabled

Doing that will prevent it from starting up and thus stop causing issues.

Not sure why people are whining about *how bad* MB is because it is normally rock solid for me and the last issue I had , I cannot remember.

Don't think one bit other vendors don't have issues like this or even worse (ask Avast about quarantining a critical windows file and if you had delete not quarantine on, your windows got hosed) so relax people. Why this is a bit of a mess, MB should be gauged on how fast they fix it unlike Symantec taking over 3 days to fis an issue a few years ago,

This is true, but the takeaway here might be that we are better off without AV at all, given the number of times different AV vendors have screwed up, especially if you take 'we' to mean the more tech-savvy PC users out there.

How hard can it be to roll back to previous version? Why aren't they prepared for this type of thing? Surely rolling back to previous version would be the simplest and least difficult thing to do, I'm no techie but I would absolutely have something like that ready to go with every update, just in case. Are they that stupid?

In the context of an anti-malware program in today's world, It is more than an annoying problem. Somewhere they are scrambling to find that leak. I can assure you.
