  1. Do you have fast startup enabled in Windows? If so, I'd suggest disabling it and seeing if that resolves the issue as that feature has been known to cause issues with Malwarebytes and many other applications. Instructions on doing so can be found here as well as here. If that is the cause, that would also explain why the issue is so intermittent as fast startup is very unstable with regards to startup timing and the loading of processes and services on boot meaning that sometimes the system may start without any issues at all, while other times it may have problems all depending on the timing of Windows.
  2. That's true, frequent scans really aren't necessary under most circumstances and I typically scan maybe once or twice a month at the most (and even then it's really just to test the performance of the engine; I haven't had any sort of actual infection on any of my PCs for the past 15 years or so).
  3. Wow, the cosplay community should be hiring him to do their makeup so that they can end up looking like more than just a normal person wearing someone else's clothes (some cosplayers are actually pretty good at doing makeup etc., but often times they put way more effort into their outfit and accessories and have flawed or nonexistent makeup/cosmetics).
  4. Well, as Charlie Brown would say: good grief! They charged you for a piece they should have installed in the first place. A bit ridiculous in my opinion.
  5. Greetings, I don't know what the current queue looks like for support tickets, however you should be able to sign up at My.Malwarebytes.com if you haven't done so already using the same email address you used for your purchase in order to look up your license key. Instructions on signing up can be found in this support article. Details on looking up your license key on My.Malwarebytes.com once you've created an account and logged in can be found in this support article. Additionally you may try looking up your order on 2Chekout's website via the form here and if all else fails you may contact their support via the link on the bottom of this page. Please let us know how it goes and if there is anything else we might assist you with. Thanks PS: Yes, the Malwarebytes auto-reply bot definitely has more than 0 posts
  6. One additional thing to note: scheduled scans actually run as low priority tasks so that your system isn't fully loaded and you should still be able to actually use the system for other tasks (though resource intensive tasks such as gaming and video editing etc. may still be impacted to some extent). Of course much also depends on the type of system you have, how many cores/threads available in your CPU, how much RAM you have and how fast your storage solution is, but overall the impact of scheduled scans is greatly reduced compared to a scan launched manually.
  7. The sad irony? Had Microsoft never screwed up their perfectly usable desktop UI and forsaken it for a lame, dated looking tile based/touch friendly UI and modeled their mobile interface after their superior desktop experience in Windows Vista/7 (including a taskbar, multitasking to some extent, integrated shortcuts in a mobile version of the START menu including items like scrollable contact lists for quick calling/texting/email etc.) they could have outshined their competition long ago, but instead they made the same exact mistakes they made with Zune, Windows 8, and especially Windows 10: they sacrificed a superior user experience and everything they had already proven they were very good at (their core competencies) and through it all out to replace the experience with what they thought people wanted/needed in such devices. The entire reason Apple keeps beating them so badly is because their devices are simple to use, often so intuitive that a normal, non-technical person can use it within minutes or even seconds of picking it up, and with the near universal familiarity the world has/had with Microsoft Windows and its START menu, taskbar, desktop and other common UI/UX elements and features they could have easily delivered an experience that was just as intuitive and familiar feeling as past versions of Windows, but instead they dropped the ball and sacrificed the usability of their core product Windows for those of us who appreciated what Windows was and how it worked for decades, being forced to interact with a user interface that was clearly NOT designed for a keyboard and mouse even though the vast majority of Windows devices to this day still have no touch screens (another of their 'predictions' that has failed to be realized; they thought the PC was dead and that it would be all smart phones, tablets and consoles by now, yet the population of PC gamers is actually growing, not shrinking, largely due to the fact that games on consoles have pretty much stagnated technologically and graphically because they are incapable of keeping up with modern PC hardware, largely due to their CPU and GPU cores which are based on very dated and frankly lackluster AMD hardware that wasn't cutting edge when it was new; though this will change with the next/upcoming console generation thankfully).
  8. I think I finally found the key for you David. See if this doesn't give you a clue as to how/where to hunt this data down and do what must be done (edit and/or most likely delete it then have Windows detect/recreate it). edit: By the way, according to the above link, this is the location you're looking for: %PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceMetadataStore
  9. You might try searching for the devices by name in the registry (I'd recommend a tool like RegScanner by Nir Sofer as it's far more efficient than searching through the registry one by one via regedit) to see if you can hunt down exactly where these items are stored. Hopefully you'll be able to track it down, delete the 'empty'/inaccurate entries so that they are recreated the next time you open the Devices & Printers interface.
  10. Greetings, While this feature does not exist in Malwarebytes yet, I will provide a request on your behalf to the Product team so that they might consider adding it in a future release. Please let us know if you have any further feedback, suggestions or questions and we will do our best to assist you. Thanks
  11. Bitdefender is a highly rated AV just like Kaspersky. I don't know of any compatibility issues with Bitdefender and Malwarebytes and I do know that at least a few users who were experiencing this issue switched to Bitdefender and reported that they had no issues after doing so and that their system performance was greatly improved.
  12. Excellent, I'm glad that you were able to resolve the issue and that I was able to help. Since there were threats on the system I would also recommend making certain the system is clean just to make sure nothing slipped by the scans. To do so, please read and follow the instructions in this topic and then create a new topic in our malware removal area by clicking here and one of our malware removal specialists will assist you in checking the system for any remaining threats and removing them if any are present. If there is anything else we might assist you with please don't hesitate to let us know. Thanks
  13. Greetings, It appears that your User Account Control (UAC) settings have been modified: UAC Settings ================================== EnableLUA: On Consent Prompt Behavior Admin: Off Given that Malwarebytes, like the vast majority of modern Windows applications, is fully UAC compatible and compliant, using non-default UAC settings might cause permissions issues with the program and its functions. I would first suggest restoring UAC to its default settings and then trying a repair using the Malwarebytes Support Tool to see if that resolves the issues. Instructions on resetting UAC can be found on this page and instructions for performing the repair install can be found below: Run the Malwarebytes Support Tool Accept the EULA and click Start Repair Follow the onscreen instructions and reboot your system if prompted to do so If the issue still persists then please try disabling Avast temporarily as it may be interfering with the installation. If that resolves the problems then please try creating exclusions in Avast's real-time protection for the items listed in this support article. Please let us know how it goes and if the issue is resolved or not. Thanks
  14. Thanks for the status update. I will be sure to report your experience to the Product team.
  15. Greetings, To move your license from one device to another you should first deactivate your license key on the existing device as described in this support article then you may activate the software on your new device. I would also suggest signing up for an account at My.Malwarebytes.com if you haven't done so already. Instructions on doing so can be found in this support article. Once you're signed up you will be able to manage your Malwarebytes product licenses from any computer using a web browser and you'll be able to see the status of each license and the device(s) they are active on. I hope this helps and if there is anything else we might assist you with please let us know. Thanks
  16. I miss Clippy. He was a good friend and brought me great amusement when I was younger. Apparently I'm not alone in that:
  17. Greetings, I believe they 'hid' them by putting them in the advanced scanners menu because the default Threat Scan has always been the recommended and default scan type, especially for 'casual users' as you say, since the Threat Scan is engineered to look in all of the places that threats are known to hide/install themselves (including checking all loading points/startup locations as well as all active processes and threads in memory, which means that even if a threat were running from a non-default location, it would still be detected). The Malwarebytes Research team can change where the default scan checks at any time through database updates (not requiring a full program/build update or new product release) so the default scan is dynamic and can be adapted to target any new threats' locations that might be used in the future. In fact, at one time Malwarebytes actually considered removing the custom/full scan feature completely because they saw no need for it, again, because the default Threat Scan already looks in all locations where malware likes to hide. The only reason they left it in was for the occasional advanced users that like to use the custom scan feature. This is also why they don't have the option front and center and instead feature just the default Threat Scan prominently in the main UI. As for the Hyper Scan/Flash Scan (now known as the 'Quick Scan'), it was always designed to be a very brief check of system loading points/startup locations and running processes in memory to quickly determine if the system is currently under attack by any active threats. If anything is detected by this scan, it is recommended to perform a Threat Scan (the default scan type) to ensure no additional threats are present.
  18. Greetings, According to your logs you are also running Avast Antivirus. Please exclude the items listed in this support article from Avast's real-time protection to see if that helps. Please let us know how it goes and if the issue is now resolved or not. Thanks
  19. Yep, I saw this. It looks like it could be a robust solution for long term data storage, though I'm guessing that by the time the technology is refined they will likely come up with even more robust materials and methods to use, but either way it looks promising.
  20. I'm guessing that folder is a known install location created by adware which would be why it is detecting it. That said, it likely would be a good idea to check the folder and see if anything is contained in it (I'm guessing not since ADWCleaner isn't showing any traces/files being detected within the folder). It may just be left over from something that was installed on the system but has since been removed.
  21. Good choice, Avira is typically among the top AVs (as is Kaspersky along with a handful of others) so that combination should work well. A member of the Malwarebytes staff should update this thread once a fix has been released to notify everyone.
  22. Greetings, What Porthos says above is accurate. This function does not currently exist, however if any threats try to execute from a flash drive attached to the system it should be detected and quarantined by Malwarebytes' Premium's real-time protection. With that said, this feature has been requested and I will let the Product Team know that you would like to have this functionality so that they might consider adding it in a future Malwarebytes release.
  23. Greetings, If the program you saw before reinstalling Windows was called Luke Filewalker then it most likely belongs to Avira Antivirus. With that said, it sounds like you are still having trouble with your system and may have some kind of infection causing problems. Please read and follow the instructions in this topic and then create a new topic in our malware removal area by clicking here and one of our malware removal specialists will assist you in checking the system for any remaining threats and guide you in getting the system cleaned up. I hope this helps and if there is anything else we might assist you with please let us know. Thanks
  24. Excellent, I'm glad you were able to get them working together. Yes, the issue with Kaspersky only showed up in their most recent update, build 'e' of the 2020 version, however Malwarebytes' and Kaspersky's developers are working on the issue to find a solution.
  25. Greetings, You may either contact Malwarebytes Support to retrieve your license key, or create an account at My.Malwarebytes.com using the same email address you used when you purchased your license key by following the instructions in this support article. If you need to contact Malwarebytes Support, please fill out the form on the bottom of this page and they will assist you in looking up your license key. You can download the latest version of Malwarebytes from here and you may also refer to the Malwarebytes 4 user guide here for your reference. I hope this helps and if there is anything else we might assist you with please let us know. Thanks
