  1. I'm running the latest versions of Windows 10 & Malwarebytes for Windows. My system appears to be infected with malware which I suspect came from a Google Chrome extension. Yesterday my PC started running very slowly and I noticed I received numerous Google Chrome notifications in the Windows message center (refer to the images below). After unsuccessfully performing a "Clean up computer" from the Advanced settings in Chrome, I performed a clean install of Chrome (uninstalling the previous installation & deleting the Chrome folder in Windows). I have not logged back into my account from within Chrome so extensions haven't been reinstalled. After reinstalling Chrome, I started a Custom Scan of my entire hard drive. The scan has been running for over 21 hours. It is still running. Over 680,000 items have been scanned and there has only been one (1) detection thus far: PUP.Optional.Ask. The offending file is: c:\users\mike\desktop\mike\appdata\local\temp\apnic.dll. I've let the scan run this long so I'm hesitant to stop it; however, I need to be able to regain the use of the infected computer as soon as possible. Is there any way for me to know how close the scan is to being done? Should I allow the custom scan to complete or is there a better course of action for me to take at this point? What are the steps I should take to resolve this and be certain my computer is no longer compromised? Thank you.
  2. Hi all, In one of my laptops, Malwarebytes detected some threats I deleted them and after that, I ran a custom (full) scan on all my laptops the custom (full) scan took about 12 to 14 hours, then after one day I ran a custom scan to all my laptops again but this time I took way too long right now it's on 25 hours and the scan is still not complete! knowing that I didn't add any more data I just ran it once again so what's the problem in your opinion? is a custom (full) scan is necessary in case of suspecting any threats or is a regular scan is enough! P.S: the (scan for rootkits) is turned on both scans. Thanks in advance.
  3. Why are Hyper Scan and Customs Scan options hidden from view? I had to find out by reading some of the version four manual. Doesn't Malwarebytes want the casual user to perform these types of scan? In case others are having difficulty finding these hidden options, click on the cross-hairs and in the pop-up click "Advanced scanners". Hope this saves other some time.
  4. I’ve been gotten an error message when I perform up the first custom scan with all scan option are checked-marks on this device . first time I’ve seen this error . Custom Scan Option A rootkit scan requires the entire system drive to be selected for scanning . Please update the area of the system you want to scan to includ the entire system drive or disable rootkit scanning for this scan. why this error is to pop-up and why should to disable it . is this a problem with custom scan feature or something else ?
  5. Does the "Scan Registry" part of Malwarebytes threat scanner do anything? Reason I ask is every time I run a scan (Threat or custom, doesn't matter), the process seems to skip over the Scan Registry process really fast. Every other process (Scan Memory, Scan Startup Files, etc.) takes anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or so, but Scan Registry finishes in what seems like 0.001 seconds. Not sure if it's actually doing anything.
  6. Hi, i was hoping you might be able to help determine whether my PC has an issue or not. Firstly I'd like to say that my PC is ancient so don't laugh! And I'm pretty average at best in computer knowledge. When I run a threat scan MBAM doesn't detect anything but when I do a custom scan (everything ticked in the options for scanning c: drive only) I get around 30 detections. But every time before the scan finished the screen goes black (with only the cursor visible) and I am unable to navigate anywhere and have to manually turn the computer off and on again. Report details below. Thanks in advance. 7. I am also having this exact same issue. Has there been a resolve on this? This is also a on multiple machines, one of which is also a new machine. both windows 10 home edition machines and installs of 3.0.6 MBAM.
  8. The upgrade to Malwarebytes 3.0.5.1299 introduced a bug not present in 2.x, which I labelled "Custom scan". When you create a "Custom Scan" in "Settings" / "Scan Schedule", "Operation Type" = "Custom Scan", "Schedule Frequency" = "Weekly", "Recurrence" = "1 week", and click "Customize Scan", put checkmarks in "Scan Memory Objects", "Scan Startup and Registry Settings", "Scan within archives", and "Scan for Rootkits", then select one or more drives (e.g., put checkmarks on drive "C:" and "D:"), and click "OK" and "OK" to save the settings; the program promptly forgets the selected drives. You can observe this behavior two ways: 1) just go back into the settings and you will notice the checkmarks missing from the drives that you had just put there moments before, and 2) wait for the scheduled scan to execute - no files will be scanned, and you may not even get a scan report. Some computers get a report showing 0 files scanned, others do not even get a scan report as if the scan never happened, however on all computers the dashboard shows the last scan as having happened when it should have, even if there is no scan report present on that computer. O/S: Windows 10 Professional, all updates and patches. Reproducible: Yes.
  9. Hello, I have never done a custom scan before so last night I thought I would give it a go. Its been around 5 hours (I paused it for couple of hours) and it is still on scan file system but it is not really "stuck" but it keeps going? Here is a screen shot attached. It's been 5 hours and it doesn't usually take this long. My computer is windows 10 64 bits. Does anyone know if this is crashing, malware, virus, trojon..... etc? What should I do?
  10. Strange thing happened with my custom scan this morning. After selecting custom scan from the scan type selection page, the configure scan button appeared as it should. However, when I clicked the configure button it went directly to scan giving me no opportunity to select folders etc. This initial scan did not include a file system scan. When the scan was completed the finish button appeared. When clicked, the program went into a scan which did include a file system scan but again without any opportunity to select folders. When this scan completed, the finish button appeared. When clicked, the program again started scan like the one it just finished. To summarize there appears to be two problems. First, the program is not presenting an opportunity to configure a custom scan. Second, the program ends up in an endless loop of scanning, presenting finish button, scanning, presenting finish button .... and never properly finishing the exercise.
  11. Hi, basically I have two questions: 1.) How do you run a full scan? The way I tried to do it was go into Custom Scan and select my C drive as well as all folders with in it that were shown. Is this the right way to run a full scan? 2.) What is the rough time it takes to run a full scan (if question 1 was done correctly) and a threat scan. My full scan took about 2 hours & 15 minutes whereas my threat scan takes about 20-30 minutes (was previously 40). Is this about right? I don't have lots of items on my computer nor is it bare with just a few apps and games. Does this sound about right? Thanks in advance!
