  1. Hello, We are pleased to announce AdwCleaner 8.0.6, which despite its version number is a major milestone that contains a long-awaited feature: the command-line interface. AdwCleaner CLI allows you to programmatically use AdwCleaner without having to interact with the graphical interface. It makes it easy to integrate it with your workflow and environment, even in a GUI-less remote session! The command line interface is consistent with the GUI version, so comes with two modes: Scan: `/scan` Only do a scan, but do not clean. The only difference with the GUI is that Preinstalled Applications will not be listed and thus not selected for being quarantined - see `/preinstalled` below. Clean: `/clean` Scan and automatically clean all detected elements. This will also automatically reboot the computer afterwards to complete the cleaning process. Help: `/?` Display the CLI usage information. In addition, several options are available: `/eula`: Accept the EULA. This is only needed once per machine. `/noreboot`: Do not automatically reboot after the cleaning process. `/preinstalled`: Include Preinstalled Application in the detections and move them automatically to quarantine during cleaning. Use with care. The location of the log files and quarantine are not changed compared with the GUI. They are usually located in C:\AdwCleaner. This path will be customizable in the next release, so you will be able to choose the logfile location. If no command line arguments are present, then the usual GUI will show up. Usage example: * Scan only: AdwCleaner.exe /eula /scan * Scan, then clean and reboot: AdwCleaner.exe /eula /clean * Scan, then clean but do not reboot: AdwCleaner.exe /eula /clean /noreboot * Use the Graphical interface (same executable): AdwCleaner.exe We hope that this version will help you to make your work easier. We will add more features in the next releases (ability to customize the logfile output, to empty the quarantine, etc..) but we want to hear from your usage and experience with AdwCleaner CLI. As usual, the whole changelog is available below: ## v8.0.6 [01/07/2020] ### New Features * Command line interface to scan and clean without the GUI. More details in the release announcement. ### Bugfixes * Fix reintroduction of DLL loading vulnerability reintroduced in 8.0.5. AdwCleaner (both CLI and GUI) can be downloaded from the usual place: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner
  2. Hello. {First of all, I must say I have already posted this on ToolLibs forum area. Forgive me for double posting} On a newly formatted Windows 10 I have copied the AppData\Local\Google folder to keep older Chrome's settings. After analysing it with AdwCleaner (8.0.5) it reports five unwanted Chrome extensions. I choose to clean them (quarantine) but after rebooting and rerunning AdwCleaner they are coming back. This is the clean logfile. It says FAILED. But why?. Chrome isn't even installed (I am going to use Firefox). # ------------------------------- # Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 8.0.5.0 # ------------------------------- # Build: 05-25-2020 # Database: 2020-05-19.1 (Local) # Support: https://www.malwarebytes.com/support # # ------------------------------- # Mode: Clean # ------------------------------- # Start: 05-29-2020 # Duration: 00:00:02 # OS: Windows 10 Home # Cleaned: 0 # Failed: 5 ***** [ Services ] ***** No malicious services cleaned. ***** [ Folders ] ***** No malicious folders cleaned. ***** [ Files ] ***** No malicious files cleaned. ***** [ DLL ] ***** No malicious DLLs cleaned. ***** [ WMI ] ***** No malicious WMI cleaned. ***** [ Shortcuts ] ***** No malicious shortcuts cleaned. ***** [ Tasks ] ***** No malicious tasks cleaned. ***** [ Registry ] ***** No malicious registry entries cleaned. ***** [ Chromium (and derivatives) ] ***** Not Deleted McAfee Security Scan+ - bopakagnckmlgajfccecajhnimjiiedh Not Deleted OnlineMapSearch - fifencjgcochlanolfhaoaalbakbdoof Not Deleted Search Extension by Ask - eocnnoackodjagdbaoddhjbkpjabimed Not Deleted igdhbblpcellaljokkpfhcjlagemhgjl Not Deleted jpmbfleldcgkldadpdinhjjopdfpjfjp ***** [ Chromium URLs ] ***** No malicious Chromium URLs cleaned. ***** [ Firefox (and derivatives) ] ***** No malicious Firefox entries cleaned. ***** [ Firefox URLs ] ***** No malicious Firefox URLs cleaned. ***** [ Hosts File Entries ] ***** No malicious hosts file entries cleaned. ***** [ Preinstalled Software ] ***** No Preinstalled Software cleaned. ************************* [+] Delete Tracing Keys [+] Reset Winsock ************************* AdwCleaner[S00].txt - [1766 octets] - [29/05/2020 17:51:04] ########## EOF - C:\AdwCleaner\Logs\AdwCleaner[C00].txt ##########

  4. Hi all, First time with this type of trouble and I've come across this forum via a Google search which I had started reading through this thread here: I will try to do my best here in understanding and communicating with the everyone and your knowledge. Thank you in advance for any help. I'll try and keep this simple and broken down into what I know. To start I am running Windows 10 on a Cyberpower PC that I purchased about 3 months ago. As briefly as I can be I use this PC strictly for iRacing and use only a limited number of applications that run along with it. I use Chrome as a web browser which is pretty much just familiarity and a preference. This whole adventure started when the command prompt opened on me in the middle of a race. I noticed in the task bar following this race that Internet Explorer and Chromium were there. Not thinking too much of it as this was the first time it happened I unpinned them and continued what I was doing. This happened again several hours later and I got to investigating this Chromium deal. I am now familiar with what it is and how it works and I also learned more about Electron and how it operates some of the apps I use such as Discord and Simracingapps. More familiar with how this all comes together I continued with trying to get these apps removed. Im almost positive I had uninstalled Chromium via the command prompt and a hidden folder in This PC>Windows(C:)>Users. I also took a second look at SAntivirus which is my fault for not noticing sooner and I found out all about that.. I followed instructions to remove SAntivirus by rebooting in "Safe Mode with Networking". The following step is to download and install Malwarebytes. As there seems to be no way to connect via WI-FI in this mode (which is currently all I am able to use) I downloaded on my Surface and tried to install but it still needs to download during this time so I could not do so. I went on to the next steps as they were 2 more removal softwares so I figured leaving one out would be just fine. These were HitmanPro and then Adwdefender. Following the instructions to reboot after the Adwdefender scan all I booted to was a black screen. I restarted using the power button on the tower out of frustration at this point with this already being a 4 hour headache. When I powered back on I navigated back to where I was given the options that included "Safe Mode with Networking" and others. Since I was familiar with that one during this process I chose it. Boot to black screen. Reset again and believe I chose the startup troubleshooting after finding it and chose some type of boot recovery. This is where i was starting to see red so I cant remember exactly and I dont want to really do much else on here using that route unless instructed to do so. But that sounds about right. This went through and finished and the pc booted and I am at my desktop and logged in. Now whatever it did to recover gave me a sigh of relief but now I have the apps that I originally started this process to try and remove(Chromium and SAntivirus)back again along with 2 or 3 others that I have decided not to use and had previously uninstalled. All I want is Chromium off of my computer for good. I'm sick of saying the word. I'm sick of looking at it. SAntivirus Realtime Protection Lite off my computer for good. I'm already planning on being more vigilant for these things as the SA snuck in thetr on me. Also using all three of these softwares in the future to help me do thst... if Malwarebytes doesn't hang up on installing that would be great too. Seems I'm at a point here where I can try this all again with some of your help. Thank you for your time, Ryan
  5. I have been hit with an adware that pops up saying, "YOUR MCAFEE ANTIVIRUS HAS EXPIRED!" It covers almost one third of my desktop. I have never had McAfee. I paid $59.99 to get rid of this adware. I ran Malwarebytes Premium over and over and it did not help. Searching on line, I found the Malwarebytes AdwCleaner ("Malwarebytes AdwCleaner employs innovative technology engineered solely to detect and remove these unwanted hitchhikers. It’s the cleaner of choice for home users and technicians.") It did remove this adware -- but it keeps coming back, over and over. Has anyone else encountered this and found a solution? I did see a post someone made four years ago about this, so it appears this one has existed for a while. They received no replies on it, however.
  6. Hi , while running AdwCleaner it detected a PUP.Optional.Legacy registry value that seems related to Internet Explorer toolbar. [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar|{32099AAC-C132-4136-9E9A-4E364A424E17}]Upon quarantine and restart of computer, AdwCleaner shows that the item is still not fixed. I've tried disabling extensions on IE and running scan again but the PUP remains unfixed. When I reset IE settings and re-scan, a new PUP.Optional.Legacy registry key shows up additionally but I am able to quarantine it successfully leaving behind the PUP.Optional.Legacy registry value that I can't seem to fix. I've tried running scans using Malwarebytes, HitmanPro, Sophos Virus Removal Tool and ESET but this PUP does not show up on any of them.
  7. Hi, I cannot seem to remove PUP.Winlogon.Heuristic from my system, it can only be detected my AdwCleaner, none of the other antiviruses that I have tested could scan it as a threat. I am facing network issues due to it, web pages take minutes to load and are extremely slow, however, other devices on the same network operate smoothly. I have tried to remove PUP.Winlogon.Heuristic but after every restart it comes back. Please help! Thanks in advance.

  10. adwcleaner identifies ixquick.com in Firefox, twice, but is unable to remove it. adwcleaner successfully removed ixquick.com from Chrome. Firefox bookmarks deleted where ixquick.com was in bookmark links. malewarebytes will not throw a hit on ixquick, but adwcleaner will. I've run through the pre-steps in https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/9573-im-infected-what-do-i-do-now/ for malewarebytes. I've attached those files (FRST.txt, addition.txt and malwarebytes scan.txt) I've attached logs for Adwcleaner run as well. malwarebytes scan.txt FRST.txt Addition.txt AdwCleaner[S00].txt AdwCleaner[C00].txt
  11. Hello, We are pleased to announce that AdwCleaner 8.0.2 is now released! This release brings exciting new features, as well as important bug fixes. The new capability to put under a spotlight is the reintroduction of the Hosts file scanner in order to detect any malicious redirections. Theses new detections are quarantined and each deleted line can be restored individually later on using the Quarantine. We also took a major stab at refining the translations compared to the previous releases, as some of these were starting to age - we covered the most used languages for this release, but the full-coverage should be done by next release. This version also introduces a 3 months-free MB4 license key for new AdwCleaner users. You may see it at the end of the cleaning process. As usual, the changelog is available below: ## v8.0.2 [30/01/2020] ### New Features * Ability to scan Host files for Malicious Entries. * Enhanced URL scanning for Chrome and Firefox extensions. ### Changes * Integrated new marketing campaign to provide new AdwCleaner users with a 3 month Premium Malwarebytes 4 key. * Update definitions to 2020.01.24.1 ### Bugfixes * Fixed issue in windows restoration point getting listed correctly. * Major translation update. To download AdwCleaner 8.0.2, click here. We expect the next release to happen sometimes around the third week of February. Please share with us your feedback!
  12. Hello, We are pleased to share the new AdwCleaner 8.0.1! In line to the improvements made in AdwCleaner 8, we've been pushing towards improving detection and remediation capabilities, and this time we focused on Mozilla Firefox. We completely rewrote the way we scan and clean Firefox addons, preferences, search engines, start pages, etc.. This allows to reduce the technology debt, to have a more maintainable codebase, and to gain in detection rate and remediation effectiveness. On top of this major change, we fixed a security vulnerability reported by Günter Born. AdwCleaner 7.0 up to 8.0.1 are vulnerable to DLL hijacking. This has now been fixed. We are very grateful for the report, and we encourage everyone to report us any vulnerabilities in AdwCleaner. We will study them and depending on the severity, act accordingly. This is the last release of 2019. We hope to keep our newly found pace in 2020 to improve quality, speed, and detection rate! Detailled changelog: ## v8.0.1 [18/12/2019] ### New Features - Re-Implement Firefox module. It now properly supports detecting and removing extensions, startpage, searchengines, preferences... ### Changes - Hide debug output - Update telemetry internals. - Update definitions to 2019.12.17.1 ### Bugfixes - Fix a DLL Hijacking vulnerability in AdwCleaner 7.0+, reported by Günter Born. 13. I have no known problems but thought I'd scan to be sure. No way I'm going to let AdwCleaner mess with this folder without knowing more. What might this be telling me and does it seem odd? Windows 10 Version 1809 Build 17763.805 Thank you!

  18. Yesterday my laptop appeared to have become somewhat sluggish. So, I ran ADWCleaner which found several infections. I attempted to send them to “Quarantine” which was largely successful except for one pesky infection named “Preinstalled Dell Support Assist Agent” which was not sent to “Quarantine.” In an effort to remove get rid of this infection I ran “HitManPro” which appeared to remove the infection but sadly this morning the infection has reappeared. [See Attached Screen Shots.] I also ran Malwarebytes Premium 3.8.3 which did not detect any issue. Can anyone assist me in resolving this nagging issue? Thank you

  25. I had a topic on this subject that ran from May, 2018 to November, 2018; then it was closed because I was not going to be available for several weeks. The problem is still there: AdwCleaner finds adware, cleans & repairs, restarts; then when Windows 10 Home comes back up, the adware is still there. I have Malwarebytes Premium running every day, but it apparently is not finding it. Today, I also ran Avast boot-time scan, and it did not help. The only thing that seemed to make a difference today was running in safe mode. I ran AdwCleaner a couple of times in safe mode, and it found no threats on the 2nd run. Here is a link to the original topic, and the actions taken then: Here are the registry items that Adware found on one of the occasions today: Deleted HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\FirewallRules|{733EFF95-917E-40F7-949C-7A22DE5D0A86} Deleted HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\FirewallRules|{3F74161B-3139-44C1-978F-09A0CCD51C56} Deleted HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\FirewallRules|{AF3B9589-F5B3-42C9-8589-5A345219119F} Deleted HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\FirewallRules|{CF181CEC-C873-4FF5-BCE9-08CD3BF79811} Deleted HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\FirewallRules|{5B5CD0A4-C058-4668-B0C1-0CF10855CBD7} Deleted HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\FirewallRules|{348A715D-A143-4D6B-A289-C8756D753C53} I have attached several AdwCleaner logs from today.
