John L. Galt Posted March 9, 2008 ID:14577 Share Posted March 9, 2008 New problems.First, methodology:Exited out of Protection Module (in system tray)Ran MBAMRan updateSetup ran (first problem:)Ran Update again in MBAM (Second problem:)So, the first problem is this:I hit ignore to continue the setup - only way it would continue....but since I assume that comctl32.ocx is not a newer version than previous versions of MBAM, I figured it would not be a problem. And the second is this:Notice that after updating, the Scanner tab is actually displayed while the Update tab is the one that is still selected (notice the highlight). Greenknight Posted March 10, 2008 ID:14603 Share Posted March 10, 2008 No problems updating via the internal updater for me, either; on XP Home, SP 2. Quick Launch shortcut created, database update ran after program update, AOK. Been running the free version since v 1.0.3, the only problem I've ever had is the failure to create a Quick Launch shortcut - which is now fixed. Really appreciate the fast scanning with this old computer (AMD Duron 700MHz CPU, 512 MB RAM). Keep up the good work.Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.08Database version: 474Scan type: Quick ScanObjects scanned: 39398Time elapsed: 11 minute(s), 16 second(s)Memory Processes Infected: 0Memory Modules Infected: 0Registry Keys Infected: 0Registry Values Infected: 0Registry Data Items Infected: 0Folders Infected: 0Files Infected:
fredvries Posted March 10, 2008 ID:14604 Share Posted March 10, 2008 Update to version 1.08 went smoothly.During installation I got the comctl32.ocx-message too. After hitting 'Ignore' everything went okay.Maybe we should consider giving users a download possibility for this elusive file.

JeanInMontana Posted March 10, 2008 ID:14612 Share Posted March 10, 2008 I didn't see clean install was recommended until after the fact. I got the attached error message. It did seem to install fine after I kept clicking try again, and updated this morning. What I thought was a F/P in 107 is now gone.Marcin do you think I need to uninstall & reinstall? Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted March 11, 2008 Root Admin ID:14642 Share Posted March 11, 2008 TASKMGR.COMREGEDIT.COMBoth are legit files. I believe they are replacements for the EXE forms.Well not to disagree with you but unless they were renamed they should not be there with that name. From a Microsoft article: KB 310585NOTE: When you run the Regedit.exe file, you may experience the symptoms described in the "Symptoms" section of this article. To work around this issue, rename the Regedit.exe file to Regedit.com, and then follow the instructions described in this section. After you are finished, rename the Regedit.com file back to Regedit.exe.Basically I see many entries at Microsoft with recommendations to rename REGEDIT.EXE to REGEDIT.COM in order to bypass Spyware/Malware however once done and repaired they also say to rename it back to .EXEDoing a Google search for TASKMGR.COM on Microsoft.com has no hits at all, but I suppose it's possible the same tactic was taken there. If you have or know of a specific article that shows that NT/2000/XP/Vista was shipped with .COM for those files I'd appreciate the link so that I could read up on it for future reference as OUT OF THE BOX I don't think Microsoft ever did release .COM files for them. Also, from Wikipedia on EXE filesEXE WikipediaCOM Wikipedia also see bottom of article. The DOS executable file format differs from the COM executable, which is limited to slightly less than 64 KiB in size and since it lacks relocation information, can only contain one code segment. The DOS executable header contains such relocation information, which allows multiple segments to be loaded at arbitrary memory addresses, and support executables larger than 64 KiB.Both files are over 64KB so I just don't see how they can be anything except renamed files or malware.Thanks.
