Have you tried doing an IE reset? Have you tried running a full chkdsk? Have you tried running TFC ? Have you tried to update your video card drivers ? Hi all - I have been asking aound for any ideas on why my XP SP3 will "at times" look like this Randomly. It is only the Online Screen (so not the Right click open screen area and select Properties) All other "boxes" like Notepad etc look "normal" at all times, it is just the Online one. This may not occur for a week and pop up 2 or 3 logins the next week or so, or AM is OK but PM is "Blacked out" The boxes (Tools / Favorites / File / Etc) are all there and only show as outlines as you mouse over them. No infection seems to make this, it is more like a setting that is going on and off at total random. The site is also not related, as you see a Bleep.Comp site, but today it is when I clicked here that I have the screen. WOT is normally shown also, but not while the screen looks like this (WOT still works) ...

Hello whonew - PUP.Optional.Amonetize, and several other items described as PUPs are "technically" not a virus, but it does exhibit plenty of malicious traits, such as rootkit capabilities to hook deep into the operating system, browser hijacking, and in general just interfering with the user experience. These can later cause major problems. They are generally refered to it as a PUP, or Potentially Unwanted Program. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is now more sensitive to these "potential threats" and stops them prior to allowing them to install on your system. The PUP.Optional.Amonetize infection is used to boost advertising revenue, as in the use of blackhat SEO, to inflate a site’s page ranking in search results. PUP.Optional.Amonetize got on your computer after you have installed a freeware software (video recording/streaming, download-managers or PDF creators) that had bundled into their installation this browser hijacker. This Potentially Unwanted Propgram is also bundled within the custom installer (Wrapper) on many download sites (examples: CNET, Brothersoft or Softonic), so if you have downloaded a software from these websites, chances are that PUP.Optional.Amonetize was installed during the software setup process. Always try to use the Makers site to install programs from, and not random download sites - Basically you have done the right thing, and always remove PUPs when found - Thank You -

Hi - Agree with both posts, but I have been finding computers with hundreds of these PUPs listed. I need a "Multi Delete" type tab as the list of Foistware seems to be growing, greater than I can remove them. The detection and removal is great for all of us users, but the removal method needs a change. A "square box" like SAS has for when there are many similar items would be great for this. It would save me (us) much time to just add a "Multi Delete" tab even just for listed PUPs. Thank You -

Hi chimpy - I have only posted the First of the shown versions linked above for a while now, as it seems to always run safer, and I have not had the problems that some find with a Disk Check boot loop - Run a Disk Check on your C: drive in Windows Vista or Windws 7: • Click the Start button and select Computer • Right-click on C:(or your main hard drive) and select Properties • Click on the Tools tab • Under Error-checking click the Check Now... button and click Continue at the User Account Control prompt • Mark the 2 boxes next to Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors • Click on the Start button • When the message box pops up, click the Schedule disk check button and Restart your computer • Once your computer restarts it will check the drive, don't press any keys so that it is allowed to do so This will take about 1 to 2 hours (on average) so please let All 5 stages complete. Do not Force a reboot during the scan, as you can cause damage to your system Once completed the computer will boot back to its normal operating state - Thank You -

As per David above, the program is generally considered to just be on the Junkware side of things for a good for quite a while now. >> I hear from one side that it is a great Anti-VIrus << I will not believe these people, as it is more useless than Infection. Only if you are not able to remove the program, see Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers to post your problem, with any requested logs. There-in lies another major problem ............ It is not getting them to update to another OS, but installing New Computers with them. A 10 year (or more) old computer is often the cause of many of these related built-in problems. I have 3 old (former XP system computers) but I would never consider installing Windows 7 or 8 in these computers. We must start to think about HDD degeneration, and many other problems that will start now. The XP I am typing on needs a Keyboard, a Mouse, a CD/DVD player (might salvage one) and HDD readings are now showing long term wear (not fatal yet) but these will all fail in time, even with Win 7 installed. Add to that, I would need to replace and upgrade RAM, so it is a compounding problem. Cheaper to but a new Win 7 or (ugh) 8 ready made and with a year or 2 warranty included - Just my take on it -

As this is generally used on P2P sites, I think the sites will infect you very quickly. Most Peer 2 Peer hosting sites are the unsafest area on the internet these days, and the proof is in the Malware Removal area. The program (Bit Coin) is a minor malware by itself, since it is used to transfer these infections from the P2P site. Stay well away from it or it will end up getting your computer in a very bad way - Thank You -
