  1. @MT16 - Have you checked out Windows Photo Gallery? Looks to have very similar functionality.   3. Just thought I would update this a bit. Opswat AppRemover no longer asks to install anything extra. Oddly enough, it is still labeled as version 3.0 As Ron said earlier, in most cases you are likely better off using the manufacturer's removal tool, but it's nice to have something else in your pocket to at least try too.

  6. As Chris said, there is a tool bar extension available that is easily uninstalled. However, even if nothing is installed, be aware that Meebo can still load tool bars at certain sites by running JavaScript from the site. Entertainment Weekly and TVGuide are two amongst others. Meebo can load the tool bar even on a fresh installation of Firefox. For Firefox you can use the NoScript add on by Giorgio Maone which blocks JavaScript and Flash, etc from running on a site until expressly allowed.   7. Hi ajp, The important thing is that you use an updated anti-virus alongside Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro. Which one is more of personal taste. As Firefox stated earlier, many have their own favorites. The detection rates are typically pretty high though there are some that are better than others. Sadly, nothing can guarantee 100%. All it takes is one to get through to ruin your day. Something else to consider is the level of support. Do they respond to you in a timely matter? I'm not talking about 15 minutes. That is totally unrealistic. But is it within a day? I've heard horror stories about some vendors that leave you wondering if they've even gotten your request for multiple days or never answer you at all. Some have support forums in another language if you are more comfortable with that. Kaspersky is one that comes to mind, though I've seen others as well. Regarding firewalls, again along with Firefox, for my personal needs, the Windows 7 firewall is sufficient. You cannot run multiple anti-virus applications resident in memory at the same time. They are bound to conflict with each other and believe it or not, you will be less protected instead of more protected. If you want to run another application as an on-demand scanner that should be fine. Regarding System Restore - As Seagull has said, it can save you or hurt you. However, it does not backup your system and is not always the cure-all. What we typically recommend in case an infection does take hold, is to leave it in place until we are done with the cleaning process. It is better to have an infected restore than no restore at all - just in case something goes wrong. It doesn't happen often, but it does occur. Once it is clean, we will ask you to delete any existing restore points and to create a new one. I also see that you've been trying several AV's during your quest.   8. Hi BillyNZL, It's very possible and is actually likely. If you think it is a false-positive block, you can have one of the researchers check it by posting the URL and the IP number of the block in the False Positives forum. You can get the IP number from the protection log in the Logs tab. You can also ignore the block by right clicking the tray icon and selecting the option to add to ignore list. The block notification does not still have to be showing. As long as the right click menu item is not grayed out (it's normal state) you can still add it. Another option available to you is to temporarily disable website blocking by right clicking the tray icon and unchecking Website blocking. If you forget to turn it back on, Website blocking will automatically be back in effect when you restart Windows.

If there are steps you are unable to complete in the Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs forum, just complete what you can and skip what you cannot accomplish. That is not true. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is designed to run with a fully updated and installed anti-virus program. Most Malwarebytes Anti-Malware/AV combinations will require some configuration tweaking, but I have not seen a combination that we were unable to have running in concert together as long as the AV is able to set exclusions.   12. Hi Silver, Having the protection module set does not automatically ensure that the rules definition database will be updated, though it is required for automatic updates to occur. The updater settings sub-tab is only intended for main program updates and proxy settings. Have you set the update scheduler and assigned a recovery time? Please see here for an overview of the scheduler Manual updates can be run from the Update tab regardless of the protection module settings. The program is designed to update while the protection module is running, and as stated above,in the case of automatic updates, it is required. However, manual updates do require that you be running from a Windows administrator account. If you are running from a standard limited user account, this option is grayed out because those types of users don't have privileges to make global changes that affect other users. You can check the account type by going to Control Panel -> User Accounts. If you try updating manually from an administrator account do you see any error messages? Though not needed for updates, for future reference, you can untick the check box for Start with Windows on the Protection tab and reboot to gain control of the enable protection module setting. You can also right-click the tray icon and select Exit.

Though we all use other products as part of a layered security approach, the users over there should be much more knowledgeable about their own program as we are with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware here.

If I can just clarify some things - Buttons is right that the program will automatically generate a random once per day Update schedule (with the recover time set to 23 hours) when the program is first registered in the scanner GUI as long as the box for "Keep protection up-to-date automatically" is checked. This only happens when the program is first registered via the scanner GUI. However, it will not currently automatically generate a Scan schedule. As Firefox said, like any other software, MBAM needs to be configured. An update of the main program will honor any existing schedules and it will not generate any new ones. I don't know if the developers may or may not generate a random scan schedule in the future when the program is registered. Even without having a scan schedule set, with the protection module enabled, the program is still actively protecting the user by updating the rules definition database, monitoring any malicious process trying to launch, and also blocking potentially malicious web sites. We try to accommodate as many situations as possible, but it's difficult to please everyone all the time. Sometimes features don't always get included as soon as some people would like. However, we do listen and take it to heart. The license is a lifetime license for home retail consumer users. Business use, including schools, non-profit, and government institutions, requires an annual renewal. Nor is there any provision in the licensing for a free version for this type of user. I don't know how we may validate existing licensing in the future. If a retail home consumer user did go away and never use the program for five years, he would still have a valid license to use the program, but he may need to get new credentials of some type. So far, that's not been the case. If we were to use another algorithm or method, I'm sure Malwarebytes would provide a no-cost update path as long as the user has retained his/her existing licensing or be able to provide enough other information so that it can be verified. I have no idea if that would be an automatic or a manual process, but with the amount of users out there I would like to think it would mostly be an automatic process with a minimum of manual involvement. The company may also offer other additional features in the future that might incur an additional charge if you wanted to use them, but the main program and protection that you are buying today wouldn't require it. For instance, we have partnered with another company to provide phone support for those who wish to use it. Some people just feel better having someone to talk to. That type of support is not included in your lifetime license and is an additional cost. However, we continue to offer email support included at no additional cost as we have in the past. They have also alluded to the possibility of future plug-in modules that may be an additional charge. MBAM will not automatically scan a USB drive when it is inserted. However, it does monitor for any malicious process trying to launch, even if it is from the flash drive.
  18. Sorry to be late in replying. I had some networking issues keeping me off the forums for a bit. Glad you got it sorted out and working now. As one of our other members (ThreeGuser) pointed out to me, this is a very old version of Symantec. I had realized it was old, but had forgotten it was that old. Here's a quote from their site. Please uninstall and re-install MBAM using the mbam-clean tool as outlined here. See Issue 7. You stated that this is a corporate version of Symantec so it's worth noting that you will need to be an admin on the box. If this is a work machine, please seek assistance from your IT dept. This includes but is not limited to schools, government entities, non-profit organizations, tech repair shops, etc. The free version is intended for home consumer end users only. From the EULA - I realize that many people don't read these any more. They can be quite lengthy and full of legalese that many don't want to wade through.

We don't officially support installation on the server itself, but some of our customers do manage to run the program on them successfully. As Firefox stated, corporate support is handled by email at corporate-support@malwarebytes.org A valid MBAM business usage license is required to obtain support and your email should include your Cleverbridge reference number.   23. Wow! I think everyone misunderstood Firefox's original intention. Either that or I did. My understanding is that he would like to see the corporate sales portion opened up to other vendors to take the pressure off our own Corporate Sales Department. As it is, there is not a current venue for corporate users to buy corporate licensing directly without going through our Corporate Sales department first. I don't believe that he meant to imply that we should seek to be pre-installed as crapware or to have coupons or anything else along those lines. I think what he is trying to point out is that there is some frustration with corporate users when the Sales department doesn't respond to them in a timely manner for whatever reason. Resellers need to be vetted to some degree. I personally don't know what the criteria are but it does take some time. My understanding is that not everyone is approved. Sometimes they (Sales staff) are just overwhelmed with requests, and at others, their responses get unanswered for long periods of time. At other times, their responses get trapped in Spam filters. I have personally had this happen to me several times where corporate customers have asked for assistance, and even though I get the email as an incoming just fine, they bounce my answer due to some setting at their end. That situation is particularly frustrating to me, since it looks like we have ignored their request when nothing could be further from the truth. We've had over 50 million downloads at CNET Downloads alone. How many of those are interested in using the corporate version out of that? Even a small percentage can be overwhelming. We often see where IT Directors and such have used the program for personal use and are now interested in using it at work. I can't respond as to whether we would be willing to work with other resellers because that is just not my area of expertise, but on the other hand, I hope to clear up Firefox's suggestion. If my understanding is wrong, please correct me.
