Hi Amethyst, I just went to the AVG Free Forums and at first I couldn't duplicate what you are seeing. That's because I'm using Firefox with the NoScript add on. As soon as I enabled scripting for both the forum and support.com, I got the behavior you're describing by trying to click into the version 9 forum. All I saw was a banner from hxxp://www.support.com/banner/avg/forumsbar offering live support (and of course they take Mastercard, Visa, etc.) If you click on the banner, it takes you to hxxp://corp.support.com/avg Support.com is located in Redwood City, Calif. and the Better Business Bureau gives them a an "A" rating. I doubt it's a hack, but certainly agree it's smarmey marketing tactics to say the least. In fact, I'm not able to access the forum once scripting is allowed for support.com. It just keeps going to the banner. If I enable scripting for the forum only, this behavior does not occur.

@CCMUA2009 The Vista file you are looking for is C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\RULES.ref The XP location is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\RULES.ref For future reference, if for some reason, you are unable to perform a normal update through the scanner GUI, you can copy this file from a working machine and overwrite the existing one. A self-installing one can also be downloaded from here, but it is always older than the current one due to needing to be digitally signed and re-compiled.

Modified system files by MBAM
Jacktivity replied to gasgpmo's topic in Malwarebytes for Windows Support Forum
@gasgpmo You don't say so, but it sounds like you may be referring to the Defense+ component of Comodo Internet Security. I've seen Comodo throw up that kind of notification before and it IS disconcerting. However, as AdvancedSetup has stated, MBAM is not modifying your files. It does need to interact with various Windows processes in memory and this is probably what Comodo is seeing and interpreting as a modification. See this link to better understand how Defense+ works and how to set it and also this on Computer Security Policy. This behavior is one of the reasons I don't recommend Comodo for the average user. It's just too complicated and scary for many people. @CCMUA2009 See these Wikipedia Articles for more information on Intrusion Prevention System and Comparison of Firewalls -
Hi Jax, I'm experiencing the same thing - but see here.

Hello sillyrabbit, and welcome to Malwarebytes.org It sounds like you are still infected. For future reference, MBAM should only be run in safe mode if absolutely necessary. It works best in normal mode with all drivers and services loaded. You can try this to see if it helps. Otherwise, please see below. We don't work on malware removal in the general forums. Hello Just Your Avg Bear, and Welcome to Malwarebytes.org If you're not having any problems, you don't need to set exclusions. Some people DO have problems running MBAM along side some Anti-Virus applications, and the exclusions generally seem to work. We don't currently have a write up for Norton but you can look here at the settings for McAfee and here for the settings for Trend Micro to see if you can adapt your situation. My best guess is to start off with putting the following files in the Autoprotect section. Alternatively, if you have an option to exclude entire directories, then exclude C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\ and then move on to the C:\Windows\... files individually, etc. C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\MBAM.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\MBAMGUI.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\MBAMSERVICE.exe C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\MBAM.sys C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\MBAMSWISSARMY.sys C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\RULES.ref After you've set the exclusions, reboot and run a MBAM update and quick scan to see if you still experience problems. If necessary, repeat these exclusions in the Scan section of Norton. Take a look at the Norton logs to see if they are blocking anything.

Hello hamm, and welcome to Malwarebytes.org It sounds like you are infected. Unfortunately, not even MBAM can find and take out everything. No one has come up with the one magic bullet against all malware yet. Please see the directions below. We don't work on malware removal in the general forums. IP Protection Question...
Jacktivity replied to Dan334's topic in Malwarebytes for Windows Support Forum
Hi Dan334, It sounds like maybe you have tool tips turned off. See if this gets your balloons back Double-click "My Computer" if visible on your desktop, or open up virtually any other folder window in Explorer. Choose "Tools" - "Folder Options". When the "Folder Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "View" tab. Underneath "Advanced settings", Scroll down to "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items" and check or uncheck the option as desired. Click "OK" to close the dialog box, and then close the folder window. As for the site you are trying to access, see here for more information on controlling IP blocking. If you like, you can temporarily disable IP blocking by right-clicking the MBAM tray icon and removing the check mark for IP Protection. You can either turn it back on yourself or wait until you reboot, at which time it will automatically resume. The link above will also tell you how to turn off IP blocking completely, if you so choose. If you think the site you are trying to access is legitimate, you can submit it to the False Positives forum and the experts in there will check it out and get back to you. Please include both the IP address and the domain name you are trying to reach. The following log will tell you what IP's have been blocked. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\Protection-Log-yyyy-mm-dd.txt -

Automatic update doesn't work
Jacktivity replied to Daniel's topic in Malwarebytes for Windows Support Forum
@everready- What is the question - qualify for what? This is a very old post started a year ago and going back approx 11 versions of the program. Exile360 was already helping you here with your updating problem and you never answered him. In this post a few days ago, you stated you are using the free version of the program. The free version does not support automatic updating. The paid version does. If you've bought the program in the meanwhile, you can get support by sending an email to support@malwarebytes.org -
Hi susie0884, and welcome to Malwarebytes.org You most likely have a false positive here. This is usually just a small non-essential program to remind you to clean your print cartridges in an hp printer. Please update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and exit. Then run a new quick scan with the developer option by going to Start -> Run and entering "mbam.exe /developer" without the quotes. /developer: creates a log to be submitted with false positive reports. Will open a window on the Desktop to allow user to initiate a scan. Upon completion of the scan, user is presented with a choice to remove items, ignore items, save a log file or return to main menu. User should select save log file. Log will include a generated hash number for each detected infection. If no infected items were found, no hash number will be generated and the log will appear as a normal log. Afterward, user should exit without taking any action. If it still shows as an infection, reply back with the contents of that log in a new topic at the False Positives forum. One of the experts there will advise you.

Hi aVia, Internet Explorer 5 is very old. So old, I had to look it up. Even though you use Firefox as your browser, MBAM uses the IE settings to download it's updates. I would recommend at least updating Internet Explorer to 6.0 SP1. That's likely the latest version supported for your Operating System. You can download it here . Here are the system requirements for MBAM from the help file. [*]Microsoft

Can't get IP Protection to activate
Jacktivity replied to QBgreen's topic in Malwarebytes for Windows Support Forum
Hi QBgreen, and welcome to Malwarebytes.org Please see if this post on Fixes for Common Problems and Error Codes helps. In particular, look at solution #3 to have your Anti-Virus/Internet Security applications ignore/trust MBAM. The following files need to be trusted C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\mbam.sys C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys If this doesn't help, please let us know. Does the regular MBAM protection start, and only the IP protection is failing? -

Here is some limited help about the BIOS menus at HP Another one with pictures. It's for a desktop but probably similar. Here are some articles at HP for USB Device Troubleshooting USB Device Troubleshooting in Microsoft Windows 98, ME, and XP USB Devices Quit Working Unexpectedly in Microsoft Windows XP

AdvancedSetup is most likely right, there's a possibility it could just be plain broken. Here's the information directly from HP Entering the BIOS Setup utilityTo open the BIOS Setup screen: Turn off the computer and wait five seconds. Turn on the computer. When the first screen displays, immediately press the F10 key if your computer was built in 2006 or later (came with Vista). Press the F1 key if your computer was built before 2006 (XP or earlier). Press the key once every second until a BIOS Setup utility screen opens. NOTE: On some Compaq Presario computers (before 2002), press the F10 key at the logo screen. Use the keyboard to move through the menus.
