If you haven’t already done so, please run the Malwarebytes Support Tool and then attach the logs in your next reply:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder/location of the downloaded file
  • Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  • Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  • You will be presented with a page stating, "Welcome to the Malwarebytes Support Tool!"
  • Click the Advanced Options link

  • A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed to gather troubleshooting information from your computer
  • Upon completion, click OK
  • A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop

The point is that Chrome and AVG issued updates that require SSE2 instruction set as mandatory and it occurred to me that the root source of this problem is the possibility that the programmes when constructed are compiled with a compiler that only uses SSE2 methodology within and as a result kills the use of that programme on any PC that uses non SSE2 type Processors. One bright light was that Malwarebytes issued a Patch to overcome this problem.

Please refer to the Hardware Requirements on this page as well as the System Requirements section of this document:

Hardware Requirements 
800MHz CPU or faster, with SSE2 technology 
2048 MB (64-bit OS), 1024 MB (32-bit OS, except 512 MB for Windows XP) 
250 MB of free hard disk space 
1024x768 or higher screen resolution

I do not believe they plan to patch the current version of Malwarebytes to eliminate the requirement for SSE2, particularly since the latest versions of Malwarebytes no longer support legacy Windows versions such as Windows XP and Windows Vista; please refer to the information posted here for details.  The last version supported on XP/Vista is 3.5.1.2522 Component Update 1.0.365 (the most recent Component Update is 1.0.391; approximately 3 Component Updates have been released since build 1.0.365).  If you are using XP or Vista then you will need to install this version.  You may refer to the Malwarebytes Support Lifecycle Policy located here for additional information.

Now, with all of that said, if you are running Windows 7 you theoretically should be able to use a non-SSE2 compatible CPU, however Windows 8 and newer versions require an SSE2 compatible CPU.  I do not know if they plan to issue a patch for the SSE2 support issue for Windows 7, however I believe it is unlikely that anyone would install Windows 7 on hardware that old, especially given its comparatively high system requirements for other system components such as the minimum amount of RAM required and the probability that compatible drivers for Windows 7 for hardware that old do not exist.

Malwarebytes versions 2.18 and above do require that the cpu handle SSE2 threading.  As your machine does not, there is a hotfix but it will not apply to Malwarebytes 3.x and above.  

The 'hotfix' that I'm sending you is going to swap out the Qt5core.dll with an older version of that file so Malwarebytes 2.2.1 will install and run for you.   Again, this cannot be done with our Malwarebytes 3.x versions at all, so MBAM 2.2.1 is the highest you'll be able to go.

Download the attached Hotfix and save it to your desktop so it is handy.

You can download and install version 2.2.1 from here https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mbam_2x but you'll need to make some adjustments.

 Begin the installation but don't Finish it.  When it gets to the last window that states Finish and Launch Malwarebytes - stop there and run the Hotfix that you downloaded.   Simply double click to run it - it will only take seconds to complete.

Once that has been done, now click Finish in the installation window.

IMPORTANT:  After the installation is complete, the first thing MBAM does is try to update the database, including any new program version.
 When that starts, just exit MBAM via the notification area icon so that process is interrupted. Or, restart the computer.

 Next time you start MBAM, it won't try an immediate update. You can then change the settings so it won't update the program version, only the database, detection rules. 

On the Settings tab > Update Settings > uncheck the box 'Check for program updates when checking for database updates'

 Now, you should be able to update the database, and stay on MBAM 2.2 on this machine, and it should work for you without issue.

at that time it was 1 month after terriblec PC-problems started. Both dead. and at the same time some days before this answer my father died. so it was big chaos. very nice to see there is a solution. because i am missing malwarebytes so much.
and i will buy the version for win7. after Microsoft  has stopped nerving win7-users with bad updates like in january. Have a post-to german links only in sysopt. i am europanorama there.

and SSD will not work on non-SSE2-pcs anyhow and on certain pcs like my universal(IDE/SATA) i had to run SSD boot-drive on second non-nvidia-chip-slot. ssd-drives are accessible on slot 1(SATA 0 to be precise) but only after booting up and turning it on afterwards. since its hotswapping  one can reattach cable if no docking-station is available. mine has eSata there are pci-card(raid-card) and non-slot-cards (sata to Powerover eSata) which allow also booting.

i see cannot edit quoted threads. i have been online for hours also relogin didnt help. maybe restart FF. time to use Palemoon. have addons-workaround to make FEBE run. noscript not working anyhow. FF 45-3-ESR- 48.02(latest for Winxp SSE) would also work.

MODERATOR: Pls correct my title to SSE2 from SSE.

Just an aside that I reported a similar error when I try to download any attached .ZIP file in this Malwarebytes 3 Support Forum board - see  my 09-Feb-2019 threadCan't Download .ZIP Files Attached to Replies .  I'm still waiting for feedback from one of the Malwarebytes employees.

Sorry to wake an old thread:

 

is there any chance to get a re-upload of the Malwarebytes_2.1.8_SSE2_Hotfix.zip file?

 

All the links I can find to it on the forums are dead.

 

I have an XP embedded machine (medical equipment) that I want to run a malware scan on before commissioning it. ( I am aware of the outdated OS etc etc.) the equipment is very specialised and works perfectly from a diagnostic standpoint.

Honest Question:

Would running something like MBAM 2.2.1 that even "does not get updates any longer" not have a benefit over running nothing at all?
