Protection Disabled after update to Creator's Edition

Recommended Posts

Upgraded my Win 10 x64 system to Creator's edition (1703) last night. After rebooting, Malwarebytes issued the all-to-familiar "Protection Disabled" warning. Rebooted again, same thing. It is the Exploit protection that is not starting. Trying to start it manually does not work.

MBAM V3.1.2.1733
Component 1.0.122
Update package: 1.0.1925

mb-check and frst output attached.

Upgrading an OS will sometimes break security software that is already installed on a system.

If rebooting a couple of time does not solve the issue, perhaps a clean reinstall will.

Let's try this first.... (It is recommended that you de-activate your Malwarebytes first before un-installing or using the clean removal tool - the tool can only backup the license info for MB3 so if you have MBAM v1 or v2 you have to de-activate it manually)

  1. Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the mb-claen tool you will be asked to reboot. Once you reboot it will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES (it will download the latest version) or you can download the latest version manually (currently v3.1.2.1733 ) to re-install from HERE)
  2. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 4 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 4 logs are: mbam logs zipped, FRST.txt, Addition.txt and mb-checkResult.txt)
  3. NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.1.2 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank You,

Hello @HarryZ

Another recommendation would be to add the Malwarebytes exclusions to the ESET Smart Security program you have.

In your ESET software add the following exclusions:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbae64.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMChameleon.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMSwissArmy.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mwac.sys
C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\farflt.sys

Also please exclude the following folders too: (The complete folder)

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware
C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService

After exclusions have been added, restart your machine and let us know if that fixes your issue.

Aloha Firefox. I have removed and re-installed Malwarebytes per your instructions, and so far it's working correctly. I'll update this thread if this changes.

Aloha nikhils. Thanx for the response. I implemented Firefox's suggestion before I saw your post. But... I've been running MWB and ESET Smart Security together for many years and have never had to set up the exclusions in either program. Again, thanx for responding.

Aloha, Harry. I have always setup exclusion since the beginning to prevent issues just in case.
