How to use it?

  1. Download the latest version of MB-Check by clicking the link above
  2. Double-click and run mb-check.exe 
  3. A command window will appear stating "running mb-check" followed by "running mb-grab"
  4. Upon completion, a prompt will appear letting you know it's done and the "mb-check-results.zip" file will be on your desktop
  5. Attach the "mb-check-results.zip" file to your support case and/or your forums thread for further assistance

What is MB-Check?

MB-Check is a tool developed by Malwarebytes to assist with the following:

  • Analyzing information about the install state as well as gathering log files from the following products:
    • All versions of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • All versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.x 
    • All versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.x
  • Collect and copy log files found in the default location for the following applications:
    • All versions of AdwCleaner (Maximum of 5 logs that are less than 7 days old)
    • All versions of Junkware Removal Tool
    • All versions of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (Maximum of 5 logs that are less than 7 days old)
  • Generating a zip file (mb-check-results.zip) which contains the aforementioned information and files

The zip file (mb-check-results.zip) can then be shared with the individual(s) helping you (Malwarebytes Customer Success Team, Community / Forums Helpers, etc).

When to use MB-Check?

  • If you are having an issue with Malwarebytes products, MB-Check can be used to automatically gather information for troubleshooting
  • If you want to verify if there are any files left over after uninstallation 

What operating systems can I use MB-Check on?

  • Windows 10 (32/64-bit) 
  • Windows 8.1 (32/64-bit) 
  • Windows 8 (32/64-bit) 
  • Windows 7 (32/64-bit) 
  • Windows Vista (Service Pack 1 or later, 32/64-bit)
  • Windows XP (Service Pack 3 or later, 32-bit only)

How to use it?

  1. Download the latest version of MB-Clean by clicking the link above
  2. Close all open applications
  3. Double-click and run mb-clean.exe 
  4. A prompt with an option to clean up the system will appear:
    • Yes - will proceed with backing up the license key (Malwarebytes 3.x only) and initiating the cleanup process
    • No - will exit the utility
  5. Once the cleanup process is completed, a prompt will appear:
    • Yes – will proceed and post reboot you will be prompted to continue with the downloading, installation and activation of latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • No – will exit the utility and you will not be prompted (post reboot) to download, reinstall and re-activate (not recommended)
      • We recommend rebooting immediately. Additionally, stopping at this step is not recommended and will most likely not resolve your issue(s).
  6. Upon reboot, a prompt will appear:
    • Yes - will download, install and activate the latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • No - will exit the utility and the cleanup process is complete
      • Choose this option if you do not want to download, install and activate the latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • A log file ("mb-clean-results.txt") will be on your desktop 
    • Attach the log file to your support case and/or your forums thread for further assistance

What is MB-Clean?

MB-Clean (aka Malwarebytes Cleanup Utility) is a tool developed by Malwarebytes to assist with the following:

  • Fully removing the following products:
    • All versions of Malwarebytes Cloud Agent
    • All versions of Malwarebytes 3.x
    • All versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.x 
    • All versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.x
    • All versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit 1.x
  • Backing up of Malwarebytes 3.x license key
  • Downloading of the latest Malwarebytes 3.x
  • Installing the latest Malwarebytes 3.x and injecting the backed up license key

Note: MB-Clean replaces the legacy version of mbam-clean.

What do I need to know before running MB-Clean?

  • Warning: although it automatically backs up and injects the license key, it's recommend you backup or obtain the licensing information before running the tool in order to restore the paid version
  • Warning: we also recommend deactivating the product before running the tool. Refer to the links under "Helpful Resources" for detailed instructions
  • It does not clean Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Mobile

When to use MB-Clean?

  • If you are having trouble uninstalling any of the supported products mentioned above 
  • If you are having trouble upgrading to a newer version
  • If you are getting access denied or failed to delete errors during removal
  • If real-time protection is having trouble starting

Does MB-Clean support any command-line switches?

Yes, MB-Clean can be executed with any combination of the switches below. MB-Clean will prompt for elevation if executed from a non-administrative instance of CMD on a UAC-enabled machine. Example command-line: mb-clean.exe /silent

  • /silent
    • will backup license key to mb-licenseinfo.txt on the Desktop (if applicable) 
    • will suppress all message boxes
    • will perform an uninstallation/2nd phase cleanup of consumer products
    • will perform a reboot/post reboot phase cleanup (if required) of consumer products
    • will not perform an installation/activation of MB3 Premium
    • will move generated output (mb-clean-results.txt) to the %temp% directory on completion  
  • /silentnoreboot
    • will backup license key to mb-licenseinfo.txt on the Desktop (if applicable)
    • will suppress all message boxes
    • will perform an uninstallation/2nd phase clean-up of consumer products
    • will not perform a reboot/post reboot phase clean-up of consumer products
    • will not perform an installation/activation of MB3 Premium.
    • will move generated output (mb-clean-results.txt) to the %temp% directory on completion 
  • /managed
    • will remove Malwarebytes Endpoint Security Endpoints
    • will not perform a recursive clean-up (2nd phase cleanup/post-reboot phase cleanup)
  • /cloud  
    • will remove Nebula Cloud agents (including EPP/IR endpoint components)
    • will perform a recursive clean-up (2nd phase cleanup/post-reboot phase cleanup)

We're super excited to announce availability of an update to both our MB-Check and MB-Clean utilities. For MB-Check, we've updated this to included both support for the latest Malwarebytes 3.1 as well as the ability to automatically collect log files. For MB-Clean, this has also been updated to support the latest Malwarebytes 3.1 as well as some other sweet enhancements.
