"Exclusion List" and malware, pop-ups

Recommended Posts

I have a client running MalwareBytes Premium 2.0 at my suggestion.  Over the years I keep getting call backs for malware, pop ups, etc.

When I view the “Web Exclusions” list there are pages of porn sites listed. I assume this is probably the source of the problem.

Searching the manual I found:

“You may add an item to the Exclusion List by clicking the Exclude Website button that appears when MBAM blocks the website.

Note: Adding items to this list may result in your computer becoming more vulnerable. You should only exclude IP addresses, domains, or processes that you trust. “

Before I present this information to the client I want to make sure I am not missing something and making a false assumption that he is clicking the “Exclude Website” button to view sites to be excluded.

           ?????’s

  • Am I correct in my assumptions?
  • Is there any log that would indicate when each exclusion was made?

Thank you,

I bet the client is coming back blaming you because of the reinfections.....I always demonstrate every security feature I installed to a client at pick up. To demonstrate the web blocking feature and what not to do you can click in front of your client http://iptest.malwarebytes.org/ and show them the block and say don't exclude or reinfections are their fault not the program... Buts that's not the beginning .... I or any one else here could write a book. :P

The wife is wondering why they have to keep calling me back.  Windows typically gets the blame. Last time I used "System Restore"  and went back a month.  That worked....so far.

Now I have to get the client alone and confront him with the facts.

I am planning on checking the browsers "History" for traces and proof....unless he deletes history at browser exit.

Maybe I will suggest he get a second computer for his "games."  If he is addicted to porn that behavior will probably not change.

Thank you both for your input.

We all have customers like this, myself included. I have some that come to me every other month, some of them monthly.... There is only so much security you can put on the computers, if they chose to ignore the prompts/warnings its on them... I just clean it up...

Some of my customers, just bring it to me monthly just to do maintenance and updates on their computers even if they are not having issues.... they feel more comfortable having me do it..
