Cannot update Microsoft Security Essentials since installing MBAM

Hi

 

Since installing Maslwarebytes Premium on my VIst PC Microsoft Security Essentials upates fail with a "internet connection failed messgae" Is there a fix for this?

Just my opinion... get rid of MSE and get another AV progam. MSE in my experience isn't very good. In fact I read an article recently that MS came out and said it's not that great and people really should have something else. I forget the exact wording, but it was something like that. I think it's ok if you are a low risk safe surfer, but I would not feel confident with MSE. If you want a free AV program I would go with Avast or Avira. I like Kaspersky the best, but it's not free.

I think you are probably correct, MS seem to have a lot of problems with the "Essentials" programs.

Can you disable MBAM completely and then try to update MSE to see if that is actually the cause?

Since my post I completely uninstalled MBAM and it still did not update, even a manual update

did not install, so I figure it is a MSDE issue and not MBAM.

Not a thing wrong with MSE been running it with MBAM for years without any issues at all.

Same experience as Sarton with MSE and MBAM. Have both running for yrs and no problems. Just make sure 'schedule scans' are NOT schedule at the same time. I too remember reading something about MSE not being as capable as other antivirus programs in real-time detection and protection. My take away after reading that article was to always practice good internet surfing, email, opening attachments, etc etiquette. MSE is user-friendly and doesn't take over your computer like so many other antivirus programs do. True it may not be in the top rated programs, but running alongside of MBAM, I haven't had any problems. Just my $.02 worth.

you are getting off topic, efficacy, scanning times etc are not the issue, MSE does not update, that is the problem.

 

I have been to the MSE Answers Forum and like most fixes in the Answers Forum, (IMHO) they are convoluted and

often do not work.

 

I still have MSE as my AV but the definitions are now over a week old.

 

And, BTW I totally agree with captfbgnet who wrote that MSE is user friendly and does not take over the PC.

My suggestion is to uninstall MSE and run the removal tool from MS HERE to clean up and then reinstall MSE and try again.
