  1. If anyone following this thread has a Win XP or Vista OS, please note that Malwarebytes employee Erix has pinned a FAQ at the top of this Malwarebytes for Windows board called Malwarebytes 4 FAQs that has a section titled Malwarebytes Support for Legacy Windows XP and Vista Operating Systems. This section of the FAQ has a download link for the legacy Malwarebytes v3.5.1 for Win XP/Vista (https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3_legacy) and information about ongoing protection updates. To date, Malwarebytes have not made any official announcements about when malware definition updates will end for this legacy version. Your CPU must support the SSE2 instruction set (Pentium 4 or higher) in order to run Malwarebytes v3.5.1, and the Ransomware Protection module cannot be activated on a Win XP or Vista computer if you have a Malwarebytes Premium license that offers real-time protection. See my 20-Oct-2021 post <here> for additional information. Any user that has a Win 7 SP1 or higher OS that supports SHA-2 code signing of digital certificates should meet the system requirements posted <here> for the current Malwarebytes v4.5.9. Win 7 SP1 users who are not certain if they have installed the KB4474419 update (rel. 23-Sep-2019) that adds SHA-2 code signing support should read rickoz's 23-May-2022 Definitions Not Updating for more information. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1706 * Firefox v100.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2203.5-1.1.19200.5 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.9.198-1.0.1689 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  2. Hi Nombredeus: Malwarebytes employee Erix has pinned a FAQ at the top of this Malwarebytes for Windows board called Malwarebytes 4 FAQs that has a section titled Malwarebytes Support for Legacy Windows XP and Vista Operating Systems. 3. Hi CaptainCrash: Further to P1W's comment <above>, also keep in mind that old-style product keys have two parts, an ID and key: ID: xxxxx Key: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (mix of 16 letters and numbers) while the newer product keys do not require an ID: Key: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx (mix of 20 letters and numbers) When I purchased my Win 10 laptop in 2019 I created a Malwarebytes Account as instructed at Create and Manage Your Malwarebytes Account and opened a Helpdesk support ticket at https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/requests/new to have my old-style product key switched to a newer product key. The process was complicated by the fact that the email address I had given Cleverbridge back in 2011 when I purchased my lifetime (perpetual) license was no longer valid and didn't match the email address I used when I created my Malwarebytes Account, but the Helpdesk eventually got everything working again. As P1W suggested <here>, I always have the Security | Windows Security Center | Always Register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center setting DISABLED on my Win 10 machine to ensure that Microsoft Defender (or what ever third-party antivirus I might prefer) is still recognized as my primary real-time protection program. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1706 * Firefox v100.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2203.5-1.1.19200.5 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.9.198-1.0.1676 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.6758 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  4. Hi rickoz: Please see AdvancedSetup's 26-May-2022 post in anon743's MBAM 2.2.1: No Definitions Updates After May 19 which notes that MBAM v2.x will no longer receive definition updates due to new digital certificate requirements. This means you will have to upgrade to a newer version of Malwarebytes. Does your Win 7 OS have Service Pack 1 (SP1) (see the Computer Hope article <here>) and have you installed the KB4474419 update (rel. 23-Sep-2019) that adds support for SHA-2 code signing of digital certificates to Win 7 SP1? If you aren't sure go to Control Panel | Programs and Features | View Installed Updates and search for KB4474419. When searching, enter the full KB number in the search box (e.g., search for "KB4474419" and not a partial string like "4474419"). Note that AdvancedSetup posted a set of "abbreviated" instructions on 05-Jun-2021 in murph's thread Now MBAM Wants a Microsoft Security Update that is intended for Win 7 SP1 users who already have most of the Windows security updates released prior to end of support on 14-Jan-2020 and just want to install KB4474419. If KB4474419 is installed and your Win 7 SP1 OS supports SHA-2 code signing you likely meet all the system requirements for the latest version of Malwarebytes v4.5.x (currently v4.5.9.198, full offline installer available at https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb4_offline). If KB4474419 is not installed see AdvancedSetup's post <above> about the Malwarebytes v4.x legacy build. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1706 * Firefox v100.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2203.5-1.1.19200.5 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.9.198-1.0.1676 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.6758 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  5. Hi blade7658: Thanks for reporting. I tried logging in to the UFile Canada online tax return site at https://secure.ufile.ca/account/login yesterday and couldn't figure out why my login kept failing until I realized that the CAPTCHA challenge wouldn't appear unless I turned off Ads/Trackers blocking for this site (or whitelisted the URL) in my Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Firefox v2.4.1 extension. I was going to report the problem this morning but couldn't reproduce the block, and when I found your thread I discovered the issue had already been fixed. Kudos to Malwarebytes for fixing this so quickly.👍
  6. Hi Advanced Setup: It doesn't sound "normal" when processes like Windows Command Processor (cmd.exe) created by Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Chrome (with Hide Duplicate Warnings ENABLED and MB Premium closed) are left in memory after the MS Edge browser is closed. I would have expected there would be some sort of cleanup routine to end these orphaned processes when MS Edge was closed. Perhaps it's not something the developers have considered in their use cases since most Malwarebytes Premium users wouldn't typically stop their real-time protection by choosing "Quit Malwarebytes" from the system tray and then open and close their browser multiple times. Here's what happens when I repeat my test with Firefox v99.0.1 and ENABLE Hide Duplicate Warnings in my Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Firefox extension, re-start my machine, quit Malwarebytes Premium from the system tray icon, and open and close Firefox four or five times. Unlike MS Edge, there is no Windows Command Processor (cmd.exe) or the Windows Console Host (conhost.exe) running under the main Firefox process in the Apps section... .... and if I scroll further down Task Manager and look in the Background Processes section, I can't see any orphaned instances of Malwarebytes Native Message Service (MbamBGNativeMsg.exe) or Windows Command Processor (cmd.exe) accumulating in memory after Firefox is closed. Getting back to MS Edge, here's what I see when I DISABLE Hide Duplicate Warnings in my Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Chrome extension in MS Edge, re-start my machine, quit Malwarebytes Premium from the system tray icon, and open and close MS Edge four or five times. Firstly, I don't see any instance of Malwarebytes Native Message Service (MbamBGNativeMsg.exe), Windows Command Processor (cmd.exe) or the Windows Console Host (conhost.exe) running under the main Microsoft Edge process in the Apps section like I did when Hide Duplicate Warnings was enabled (see yesterday's results <above>)... .... but if I scroll further down Task Manager and look in the Background Processes section I can find one instance of MbamBGNativeMsg.exe but can't find cmd.exe or conhost.exe. Like the OP miguelgrado, I can open and close MS Edge several times and don't see extra copies of MbamBGNativeMsg.exe accumulating as long as Hide Duplicate Warnings is DISABLED in my MS Edge / Chrome extension, but that one instance of MbamBGNativeMsg.exe persists even after MS Edge is closed. -------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1645 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2203.5-1.1.19100.5 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.8.191-1.0.1666 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.6635 * Firefox v99.0.1 * MS Edge v100.0.1185.50 * Malwarebytes Browser Guard (Chrome/Firefox) v2.4.0 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  7. Hi Advanced Setup: I can reproduce this behavior and use I Microsoft Defender as my primary antivirus. If I exit Malwarebytes Premium (i.e., right-click the system tray icon and choose Quit Malwarebytes) and then open and close MS Edge a few times times, Task Manager only shows one copy of Windows Command Processor (cmd.exe) and Malwarebytes Native Message Service (MbamBGNativeMsg.exe) running under the main Microsoft Edge process in the Apps section (which I assume is expected) ... ... but if I scroll further down Task Manager and look in the Background Processes section I can see another "orphaned" instance of cmd.exe and MbamBGNativeMsg.exe accumulate every time MS Edge is closed. I currently have Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Chrome configured to "Hide Duplicate Warnings", so I'll run more tests later to see if I can reproduce this behavior with that setting turned off. I normally use Firefox as my default browser so I'll also check if the same instances of cmd.exe and MbamBGNativeMsg.exe accumulate if I open and close Firefox multiple times after Malwarebytes Premium is closed. 8. Hi AdvancedSetup: Here's a new set of diagnostic logs. mbst-grab-results.zip I'm not clear if the status of the Tamper Protection setting is still supposed to be monitored by Security Advisor in MB v4.5.7, but I should note that I seem to be having other problems with Security Monitor [i.e., dismissed (hidden) warnings can only be hidden for ~ 30 days before I see a reminder, even though this Security Advisor behaviour was supposed to stop back in January 2022]. See my 30-Mar-2022 post in my Dec 2021 thread Security Advisor Warning Returns After Being Dismissed in MB v4.4.10 for recent screenshots. If you think there's something wrong with my MB v4.5.7 installation that might be a better thread to do troubleshooting. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1586 * Firefox v98.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2202.4-1.1.19000.8 * Malwarebytes Premium 4.5.7.186-1.0.1645 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  9. Has the Security Advisor warning for Tamper Protection been removed in Malwarebytes v4.5.7 (rel. 29-Mar-2022)? As far as I know I don't currently have any dismissed (hidden) warnings in Security Advisor but the General Settings section no longer appears to be checking the status of my Tamper Protection setting as it did in earlier versions (see the first image of my MB v4.5.4 Security Advisor <above>). I confirmed that Tamper Protection is still turned off in the General tab of my Malwarebytes v4.5.7 settings. If Security Advisor is no longer checking the status of this setting then that is a step in the right direction, but note that I would still prefer if Malwarebytes would change the term "Tamper Protection" back to "User Access Controls" as I suggested in my original 20-Feb-2022 post. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1586 * Firefox v98.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2202.4-1.1.19000.8 * Malwarebytes Premium 4.5.7.186-1.0.1645 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  10. Hi @Katerina : There's been some progress with the latest MB v4.5.7, but the Security Advisor warning to enable automatic Malwarebytes application updates that I dismissed on 03-Mar-2022 didn't remain in the dismissed list. Sort of a good news, bad news story.🙂 Erix's 29-Mar-2022 change log <here> for MB v4.5.7 states in part "Fixed: Security Advisor shows incorrect status for non-RTP related issues". Does that mean that MB Premium v4.5.7 is no longer going to report the "Careful, you're not fully protected" warning on the main interface unless an RTP feature (which I'm guessing means a real-time protection module like Web / Malware / Ransomware / Exploit Protection) is disabled? As noted, the bad news is that I opened my MB Premium v4.5.6 this morning and saw yet another "Careful, you're not fully protected" warning. When I checked the Security Advisor details I discovered that the warning to enable automatic Malwarebytes application updates was visible again, even though I dismissed that warning in v4.5.5 on 03-Mar-2022 as shown in the third image in my post <above>. The good news is that I updated to MB Premium v4.5.7 about an hour later without making any other changes (i.e., I did not dismiss the Security Advisor warning by clicking the "x") and my interface now says I'm fully protected, even though the Security Advisor details still warn me that automatic Malwarebytes application updates are disabled. If this is the new expected behaviour for Security Advisor, that's fine by me as long as the main interface doesn't repeatedly warn me ever 30 days that I'm "not fully protected" just for turning off automatic application updates. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1586 * Firefox v98.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2202.4-1.1.19000.8 * Malwarebytes Premium 4.5.7.186-1.0.1645 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  11. I noticed that VirusTotal report has a Status 401, and when I check my blocked wordplays.com URL with the Securi website checker at https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/ I see a similar "Unable to Scan Your Site: 401 Unauthorized" warning. 12. Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Firefox v2.3.20 is currently blocking hxxps://www[.]wordplays.com (a site for solving crossword puzzle clues) "due to riskware". Have visited this site previously without a problem but I'm not sure if this is a false positive or a legitimate detection. In future, should I be reporting possible false positives for Malwarebytes Browser Guard in this board or over in https://forums.malwarebytes.com/forum/123-website-blocking/? I didn't see anything logged in my Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.6 detection history for this particular website block. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1586 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2202.4-1.1.19000.8 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.6.180-1.0.1634 * Firefox v98.0.2 * Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Firefox v2.3.20 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  13. Hi @Katerina : Do you know if Malwarebytes still plans to allow users to dismiss Security Advisor warning(s) indefinitely? Also, is the maximum time allowed to dismiss these warnings still 30 days, or has there been a change in the current logic so that dismissed warnings are now automatically re-enabled after every product update? I updated to Malwarebytes v4.5.5 (rel. 02-Mar-2022) today and discovered that Security Advisor was once again warning that my product is not fully protected because I have turned off automatic product updates and tamper protection in my Malwarebytes settings. I was able to dismiss those warnings again (for the umpteenth time 🙂) thanks to Porthos' instructions <above> but it's very frustrating to have to keep doing this. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1526 * Firefox v97.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2201.10-1.1.18900.3 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.5.175-1.0.1621 Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  14. I happened to check my Security Advisor recommendations in MB Premium v4.5.4 yesterday and was in a bit of panic when I saw that Security Advisor was recommending that I turn ON Tamper Protection to "prevent unauthorized changes". I confirmed that my Self-Protection module at Settings Security | Windows Startup | Advanced | Enable Self-Protection Module was still turned ON and found a Tamper Protection setting, which I didn't recall seeing before, at Settings General | Tamper Protection that was turned OFF by default. However, I wasn't entirely sure how Tamper Protection differed from Self-Protection until I found Erix's What's New in 4.4.6 release notes from 07-Sep-2021 stating "User Access Controls renamed to Tamper Protection". The support article at Restrict Uninstallation of Malwarebytes for Windows provided further clarification. Most anitvirus programs use the term "tamper protection" to describe the security feature that prevents malicious apps or outside programs from making changes to their software (e.g., disabling real-time protection, injecting malicious code, etc. - see the Microsoft Defender support article Prevent Changes to Security Settings with Tamper Protection for one example), which I assume is the equivalent of Malwarebytes' "self-protection". I don't understand why Malwarebytes chose to rename the self-explanatory "User Access Controls" to "Tamper Protection", and I'm afraid that many MB Premium v4.5.4 users who see that Security Advisor recommendation to turn ON Tamper Protection (a setting that is turn OFF by default) will believe they are actually enabling Self-Protection and might not understand the actual purpose of adding password protection to Tamper Protection. I would prefer if Malwarebytes changed the term "Tamper Protection" back to "User Access Controls", but if that isn't possible then changing the wording of the Security Advisor warning for Tamper Protection from "prevent unauthorized changes" to "prevent unauthorized changes by other users sharing your device" or "prevent other users from uninstalling Malwarebytes" might help alleviate some of the confusion. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1526 * Firefox v97.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2201.10-1.1.18900.3 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.4.168-1.0.1599 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  15. Hi alvarnell: It's difficult to test if my issue is fixed because I'm not sure what expected behaviour is for the latest MB Browser Guard v2.3.18. I checked my MB Browser Guard v2.3.18 settings yesterday and discovered the "Hide Duplicate Warnings" has once again been automatically disabled (recall my original post <above> where I said I manually turned ON "Hide Duplicate Warnings" in v2.3.17 on 11-Feb-2022 to stop the constant pop-ups asking me to allow MB Browser Guard to manage blocked website warnings for Malwarebytes Premium). That suggests that "Hide Duplicate Warnings" was likely turned OFF (either inadvertently or deliberately) by one of the following updates: Malwarebytes Premium 4.5.4.168-1.0.1599 (installed 15-Feb-2022) Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Firefox v2.3.18 (installed 16-Feb-2022) Firefox v97.0.1 (installed 17-Feb-2021) I haven't seen another pop-up asking me to allow MB Browser Guard v2.3.18 to manage blocked website warnings for MB Premium since 11-Feb-2022, so as far as I can tell my MB Premium v4.5.4 is currently handling my blocked website warnings and will continue to do so until I go into my MB Browser Guard v2.3.18 settings and manually turn ON "Hide Duplicate Warnings" again. That sounds like there's still a glitch in MB Browser Guard v2.3.18, unless I don't understand how the blocked website warnings are being handled between MB Browser Guard and MB Premium now. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1526 * Firefox v97.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2201.10-1.1.18900.3 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.4.168-1.0.1599 * Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Firefox v2.3.18 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  16. Is it safe to assume that this bug was fixed in Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Firefox v2.3.18 (rel. 16-Feb-2022)? I have no way of knowing since I already turned on "Hide Duplicate Warnings" in the extension settings last week to stop the repeated pop-ups, and the change log for v2.3.18 at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/malwarebytes/versions has no description of the changes. However, it looks like other threads on this same topic were recently marked as solved. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1526 * Firefox v97.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2201.10-1.1.18900.3 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.4.168-1.0.1599 * Ma;warebytes Browser Guard for Firefox v2.3.18 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  17. I have the latest Firefox v97.0.0 (updated 08-Feb-2022) and Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Firefox v2.3.17 (updated 10-Feb-2022). I also have Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.2.157-1.0.1562 (updated 20-Jan-2022) running in real-time protection mode. For the past few days I've been getting a pop-up asking me to allow Malwarebytes Browser Guard to manage blocked website warnings for Malwarebytes Premium every time I launch Firefox. I would click "Allow" every time but the pop-up would return the next time I launched Firefox. I checked my Malwarebytes Browser Guard settings today and was surprised to see that: The Hide Duplicate Warnings setting that was previously enabled was disabled (I don't know if the recent Firefox update or MB Browser Guard extension update turned off this setting). Clicking "Allow" on the pop-up shown above did not enable the Hide Duplicate Warnings setting I was able to fix the problem by turning on the Hide Duplicate Warnings setting in MB Browser Guard (and saw a different pop-up requesting that I allow MB Browser Guard to exchange messages with programs other than Firefox), but I assume I shouldn't have to do this manually if I've already clicked "Allow" in the original pop-up to permit MB Browser Guard to manage blocked website warnings. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H2 build 19044.1466 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2201.10-1.1.18900.3 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.2.157-1.0.1562 * Firefox v97.0.0 * Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Firefox v2.3.17 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  18. HI BillH99999: Just note that your Security Advisor warning might return after 30 days. See Malwarebytes employee Katerina's 07-Dec-2021 post in my thread Security Advisor Warning Returns After Being Dismissed in MB v4.4.10 . Wish I'd seen your 10-Nov-2021 post <above> before I started my thread. Your solution to use the small "x" to dismiss Security Advisor warnings would have saved me a lot of time, although it wouldn't have fixed the problem where my Security Advisor warning to turn on my automatic application updates reappeared a month after I'd already dismissed it. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H1 build 19043.1348 * Firefox v94.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v.4.18.2110.6-1.1.18700.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.4.11.149-1.0.1513 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  19. Hi Katerina: Yes, that 30-day reminder would explain what I observed. I updated to Malwarebytes 4.4.10.144-1.0.1499 on 05-Nov-2021, which is about the same time that I first dismissed the Security Advisor warning that my automatic application updates were turned off. I first noticed that "Careful, you're not fully protected" warning again last Thursday (02-Dec-2021) or Friday (03-Dec-2021), so it was likely the 30-day reminder, and not my update to Malwarebytes 4.4.11.149-1.0.1513 on 19-Nov-2021, that triggered the warning. Thanks for letting me know that users will be warned again after 30 days if a Security Advisor warning is still dismissed and has not been "fixed". It's good to know that users will be allowed to dismiss these warnings indefinitely in a future release, since I'm unlikely to turn on automatic application updates again just to clear these repeated Security Advisor warnings. EDIT: I've revised the title of this thread now that I know the reason why my Security Advisor warning reappeared a few days ago. Hopefully that will help other users encountering the same problem. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H1 build 19043.1348 * Firefox v94.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v.4.18.2110.6-1.1.18700.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.4.11.149-1.0.1513 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  20. Hi Porthos: If that's true then I personally don't like the idea the software developers are deliberately making the interface less intuitive and user-friendly just to try and prevent us "non-experts" from dismissing warnings in the new Security Advisor (which frankly sounds a bit patronizing). Regardless of their level of technical expertise, I imagine that most users who have turned off automatic application updates at Settings | General | Application Updates | Automatically Download and Install Updates did so because they want to wait until a larger pool of early adopters have tested the latest application update and that no new bugs are reported that weren't caught during beta testing. Those users probably don't want to be warned that automatic application updates are disabled every time they open their Malwarebytes dashboard, and I still feel that disabling warnings in Security Advisor should be more intuitive. Why not just show users a pop-up explaining the risk of disabling the Security Advisor warning and let users decide for themselves if they want to dismiss the warning or proceed with the fix? ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H1 build 19043.1348 * Firefox v94.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v.4.18.2110.6-1.1.18700.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.4.11.149-1.0.1513 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  21. Hi Porthos: Yes, that worked. After I clicked the small "x" next to the "Turn on" link I was back to green status and Security Advisor reported "Everything looks great" ... ... and now I can click the "Show dismissed items" link again to confirm that my automatic application updates are the feature generating the warning (and are still turned off in my Malwarebytes settings). Thanks for the suggestion. I would have never thought to click that small "x" to dismiss a warning. Dismissing warnings was much more intuitive in earlier versions of Security Advisor (I seem to recall there used to be an obvious link labelled "Dismiss" the first time I turned off this warning for automatic application updates, although I might be wrong about that). ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H1 build 19043.1348 * Firefox v94.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v.4.18.2110.6-1.1.18700.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.4.11.149-1.0.1513 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  22. I have an issue dismissing a Security Advisor warning when automatic Malwarebytes application updates are disabled. After Malwarebytes Premium updated to v4.4.10 the Security Advisor warned that I didn't have automatic product updates enabled (note that I always have General | Application Updates | Automatically Download and Install Updates turned off so I can choose when application updates are installed; my malware database definitions are set to automatically update every 3 hours). However, I was able to dismiss that warning so that my dashboard showed a green status and reported I was fully protected. I updated to v4.4.11 on 19-Nov-2021 and recently noticed that my dashboard once again says I'm not fully protected. Now when I view the Security Advisor details there doesn't seem to be any way to dismiss the warning to turn on application updates again. I toggled the switch at General | Application Updates | Automatically Download and Install Updates to ON (which cleared the warning) and toggled that setting back OFF again (which reinstated the "you're not fully protected" warning shown below) and I still can't see a way to dismiss that Security Advisor warning. Has there been a recent change in Malwarebytes Premium v4.4.11 that now prevents users from dismissing the Security Advisor warning if automatic application updates are disabled? mbst-grab-results.zip ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H1 build 19043.1348 * Firefox v94.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v.4.18.2110.6-1.1.18700.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.4.11.149-1.0.1513 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  23. Hi malwarefighterx: Also see the Malwarebytes support article Issues Running Other Security Applications and Malwarebytes for Windows. Kaspersky antivirus products are currently in the list of third-party applications known to interfere with Malwarebytes, and Malwarebytes recommends that you either disable the Malwarebytes Web Protection feature in Malwarebytes Premium or "disable" these third-party applications (I assume that means "uninstall" and not simply disabling an individual Kaspersky component like Web Anti-Virus), if installed. ----------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v21H1 build 19043.1348 * Firefox v94.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v.4.18.2110.6-1.1.18700.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.4.11.149-1.0.1513 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  24. Are users now able to dismiss Security Advisor warnings if scheduled scans are disabled in the latest Malwarebytes v4.4.11.149-1.0.1513 (re. 18-Nov-2021)? Erix's release notes <here> mention some improvements to Security Advisor but don't say if this specific issue with scheduled scans has been addressed.
  25. Hi AdvancedSetup: I did have a BugCheck (Event ID 1001) that caused a re-boot on 03-Nov-2021 but haven't had any unexpected re-boots since. I analyzed the mini-dump file with NirSoft's free BlueScreenView utility. BSV isn't as accurate as the Windows Debugger WinDbg since it only shows the suspected driver / module that was loaded in the crash stack at the time of the crash, but it's still useful for interpreting Bug Check Codes, and it indicated the problem was caused by ntoskrnl.exe (KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED) - see attached BSV output for three minidumps created since Jan 2020. I ran System File Checker (sfc /scannow) a few days later on 09-Nov-2021 and SFC reported it found "corrupted files and successfully repaired them", but for some reason the attached extract of my CBS.log (using the command findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\SFCdetails.txt) didn't mention the name of the specific files(s) that were repaired. Subsequent DISM and SFC scans were clean (see image below). Dating back to 27-Oct-2021 my Win 10 Reliability Monitor shows three application failures related to Malwarebytes (Malwarebytes Service stopped working 29-Oct-2021, Malwarebytes stopped working 31-Oct-2021, Malwarebytes Tray Application stopped working 10-Nov-2021) and one related to MS Outlook (Microsoft Outlook stopped responding and was closed 13-Nov-2021). As far as I know the Malwarebytes problems were transient and my Malwarebytes real-time protection wasn't interrupted for any significant length of time.
