  1. Hi icantchoosesome: Sorry about the earlier confusion over taskbar icon jump lists vs pop-up menus from the system tray icon. I've edited my post <above> to clarify that I was talking about the pop-up menu I see when I right-click the Malwarebytes icon in the system tray. Is it possible you've recently cleared (or disabled) the list of Recently Opened Items in your jump lists? I haven't used the registry hack mentioned <here> by exile360, and here's the jump list I saw today when I open the Malwarebytes interface and right clicked the Malwarebytes icon on the taskbar. However, if I clear my list of recently opened items in Win 10 (e.g., with CCleaner) that "Check for Updates" option in the jump list disappears. For example, if I go to Settings | Personalization | Start | Show Recently Opened Items in Jump List on Start or the Taskbar and in File Explorer Quick Access and then toggle that switch OFF and then back ON again to clear the recent items in my jump list... ... the Check for Updates option is removed from my Malwarebytes jump list. After I closed and re-open my Malwarebytes interface and checked for updates the jump list looked identical to my first image in this reply and the "Check for Updates" option reappeared in the jump list. ---------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v20H2 build 19042.867 * Firefox v87.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2103.7 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.3.0.98-1.0.1251 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  2. Hi icantchooseone: Do you mean that your Malwarebytes icon is normally hidden in your Win 10 system tray? If you want to unhide your Malwarebytes icon in Win 10 go to Settings | Personalization | Taskbar | Notification Area and click "Select which icons appear in the taskbar". Then turn ON the icon for the Malwarebytes Tray Application, and the icon will not be hidden as log as Malwarebytes is running on your system. ---------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v20H2 build 19042.867 * Firefox v87.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2103.7 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.3.0.98-1.0.1251 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  3. Hi icantchooseone: Just FYI, I use Malwarebytes Premium v4.3.0 on my 64-bit Win 10 Pro v20H2 machine and this is what the pop-up menu currently looks like when I right-click my Malwarebytes system tray icon: When I was using Malwarebytes Free v4.x (i.e., before I activated my Premium license on 31-Mar-2021) on this same machine the option to Check for Updates was also present in the pop-up menu with 64-bit Win 10 Pro v1909, v2004 and v20H2. ---------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v20H2 build 19042.867 * Firefox v87.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2103.7 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.3.0.98-1.0.1251 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  4. Hi Firefox: Thanks for confirming that the download link at https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb4_offline is working again for you as well. The problem seems to be resolved now so the Forum Mods are welcome to lock this thread if they wish. 5. Hi Firefox: Could you check and see if the download link https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb4_offline is working now? I just tried that link again and I was able to download the 202 MB full offline installer (mb4-setup-consumer-4.3.0.216-1.0.1251-1.0.39241.exe) from both my Firefox v87.0 and MS Edge Chromium v89.0.774.75 browsers. I don't think it was anything I did on my end - I re-enabled my browser add-ins and then performed a manual Threat Scan with Malwarebytes Premium v4.3.0.98-1.0.1236 just to ensure my malware definition database was up-to-date but still couldn't download the offline installer when I tested a few hours ago. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v20H2 build 19042.867 * Firefox v87.0 * MS Edge Chromium v89.0.774.75 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2102.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.3.0.98-1.0.1236 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  6. Hi Firefox: Thanks for the confirmation. I wonder if there's a problem with the CDN distributed servers in our areas (I live in Manitoba, Canada). I disabled all my Firefox browser add-ins and cleared my browser cookies and Internet cache and still get a blank page when I try to download the v4.x full offline installer from https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb4_offline. I have no problem downloading the full 73 MB offline installer from https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3_legacy (mb3-setup-legacywos-3.5.1.2522-1.0.365-1.0.5292.exe) for the legacy Malwarebytes v3.5.1-1.0.365 for Win XP and Vista. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v20H2 build 19042.867 * Firefox v87.0 * MS Edge Chromium v89.0.774.75 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2102.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.3.0.98-1.0.1236 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  7. Is the generic download link https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb4_offline still valid for the latest Malwarebytes for Windows v4.x full offline installer? I live in Canada and I'm currently getting a blank page when I browse to that URL with my default Firefox browser, and MS Edge displays the following error: ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v20H2 build 19042.867 * Firefox v87.0 * MS Edge Chromium v89. 0.774.75 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2102.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.3.0.98-1.0.1236 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  8. I noticed that the 08-Apr-2021 release notes <here> for the new Component Package v1.0.1251 update state in part: Further to Microsoft's July 2020 announcement at Windows Update SHA-1 Based Endpoints Discontinued for Older Windows Devices, does this mean that Malwarebytes plans to end support for Win XP SP3 and Vista SP2 users who use the legacy Malwarebytes v3.5.1-1.0.365? I just downloaded a fresh copy of the latest v3.5.1 installer (mb3-setup-legacywos-3.5.1.2522-1.0.365-1.0.5292.exe) from https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3_legacy and it's currently dual-signed with both SHA-1 and SHA-256 digital certificates.
  9. Hi Dave-H: I've had a few replies in my Norton forum thread Norton 360 and Windows Defender Limited Periodic Scanning and initial reports seem to confirm that you can enable Windows Defender's Limited Periodic Scanning when the latest Norton 360 v22.21.x is installed, and that Limited Periodic Scanning stays turned on after a re-boot. Norton 360 displays a pop-up alerting the user that "Defender Limited Periodic Scanning has been turned on" but the user can click "Don't Show Again" in the pop-up if they don't want to see that Norton warning again. I'm not sure why Limited Periodic Scanning turns off after a re-boot on our machines when Malwarebytes Premium v4.3.x is configured as the primary real-time protection (i.e., when Security | Windows Security Center | Always Register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center is turned ON and there is no other third-party AV installed on our systems). When I was testing with Security | Windows Security Center | Always Register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center turned ON, however, I did notice that it often took a few minutes for my Windows Defender AV to be disabled at boot-up and for Malwarebytes Premium to be shown as the primary real-time protection in Win 10 at Settings | Update & Security | Windows Security | Virus & Threat Protection. I don't know if this time lag to fully activate Malwarebytes Premium protection at boot up is reason why Limited Periodic Scanning is automatically turned off after each re-boot or if it's because Malwarebytes Premium is an "antivirus replacement" rather than a true antivirus as stated <here> in the Malwarebytes 4 FAQ. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v2004 build 19041.867 * Firefox v87.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2102.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.3.0.98-1.0.1236 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  10. Hi Dave-H: I activated my Malwarebytes Premium license and ran a few tests (note that the Windows Fast Startup power option is disabled on my Win 10 Pro machine) and I believe I'm observing the same results as you. If I turn OFF the setting at Security | Windows Security Center | Always Register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center and use Windows Defender as my primary real-time protection then Windows Defender's Limited Periodic Scanning is NOT OFFERED. mbst-grab-results MB NOT Registered WIth WSC.zip If I turn ON the setting at Security | Windows Security Center | Always Register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center and use Malwarebytes Premium as my primary real-time protection, I can turn ON Windows Defender Limited Periodic Scanning ... mbst-grab-results MB Registered WIth WSC.zip ... but after I re-boot Limited Periodic Scanning is automatically turned OFF. As I noted <above>, I believe this is different than what I observed when McAfee LiveSafe was my primary antivirus. When I used McAfee LiveSafe v16 in 2019 (no Malwarebyes Premium, only Malwarebytes Free as an on-demand scanner) I recall I could turn on Limited Periodic Scanning and it would stay turned on and run the occasional quick scan with Windows Defender. I also recall several Norton Security users with a Win 10 OS who reported that they could use Limited Periodic Scanning on their Win 10 machines (see Krusty13's 28-Jun-2018 comment in the Norton thread Canceling a Scheduled Scan for one example), but that was a few years ago so perhaps something has changed recently with Windows Defender. I'll post in the Norton forum and see if I can confirm that Limited Periodic Scanning still works correctly with the latest Norton 360. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v2004 build 19041.867 * Firefox v87.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.2102.4 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.3.0.98-1.0.1236 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  11. Hi Dave-H: Are you thinking of Windows Defender's (also known as Microsoft Defender) Limited Periodic Scanning option described in the TenForums tutorial How to Turn On or Off Periodic Scanning with Microsoft Defender Antivirus in Windows 10 and the MS support article Use Limited Periodic Scanning in Microsoft Defender Antivirus? According to that MS support article "Limited periodic scanning is a special type of threat detection and remediation that can be enabled when you have installed another antivirus product on a Windows 10 device" and as far as I know the option to enable Limited Periodic Scanning will appear at Settings | Update & Security | Windows Security | Virus & Threat Protection | Microsoft Defender Antivirus Options if your third-party antivirus program is configured to replace Windows Defender as your main real-time protection. Limited Periodic Scanning currently isn't available on my system because I don't have other third-party security program launching at boot-up and running in real-time protection mode, but when I first purchased my Dell laptop it came with a trial version of McAfee LiveSafe (i.e., Windows Defender was not my main real-time protection) and I was able to turn on Limited Periodic Scanning so that Windows Defender could still run the occasional scan of my system. I currently use Malwarebytes Free so someone with Malware Premium v4.x would have to tell you if Windows Defender's Limited Periodic Scanning can be enabled when Settings | Security | Windows Security Center | Always Register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center is turned ON in Malwarebytes Premium. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v2004 build 19041.867 * Firefox v87.0 * Windows Defender v4.18.2102.4 * Malwarebytes Free v4.3.0.98-1.0.1236 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  12. I've been trying to install the Component Package v1.0.1217 update (released 11-Mar-2021) for the past four days from within the Malwarebytes interface (Settings | General | Application Updates | Check for Updates as well as Settings | About | Check for Updates) but my MB Free v4.3.0.98-1.0.1173 product could only detect "regular" updates for malware definitions. That seemed odd to me given that a new full offline installer (mb4-setup-consumer-4.3.0.210-1.0.1217-1.0.38013.exe) had already been posted at https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb4_offline. After these methods failed again today I tried selecting Check for Updates from the system tray icon and it immediately detected and installed the Component Package v1.0.1217 update. Is there a glitch in the update process (e.g. a problem with the update servers or a suspected bug in Component Package v1.0.1217) or was my timing just lucky today? I know that updates are metered out slowly on a lottery system if you rely on automatic updating to deliver your product updates and wait for the "Updates Available" notification, but I don't usually have a problem downloading available product updates from Settings | General | Application Updates | Check for Updates once they're officially released. mbst-grab-results.zip ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v2004 build 19041.804 * Firefox v86.0.1 * Windows Defender v4.18.2102.3 * Malwarebytes Free v4.3.0.98-1.0.1217 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620

  16. Hi dennismccreery: I don't know if this is relevant to your issue, but there is a new thread created 25-Feb-2021 titled DisplayLink Not Working in Win 2004 in the AskWoody.com forum. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v2004 build 19041.804 * Firefox v86.0 * Windows Defender v4.18.2101.9 * Malwarebytes Free v4.3.0.98-1.0.1173 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  17. Hi dennismccreery: I used Norton AV products for several years and the only "non-Norton" product I've ever heard of that was corrupted by running the Norton Remove and Reinstall (NRnR) Tool in advanced "Remove Only" mode was a data backup program called Veritas System Recovery. That isn't entirely surprising since Symantec System Recovery replaced the old Norton Ghost backup software in 2013, and Symantec System Recovery was then rebranded as Veritas System Recovery after Symantec sold its Veritas division in 2015 - see Pcloverxp's 04-Sep-2017 post in BUG-Norton Security 22.10 Degrades System Performance. You didn't mention your computer make/model, OS or what DisplayLink (now owned by Synaptics) chipset/hardware you use, but is it possible a recent DisplayLink or Windows update was the cause of your problems? I'd be surprised to learn that an AV removal tool from Bitdefender or Norton would damage a hardware driver or software program from DisplayLink. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v2004 build 19041.804 * Firefox v86.0 * Windows Defender v4.18.2101.9 * Malwarebytes Free v4.3.0.98-1.0.1173 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  18. Hi dennismccreery: If you're using the instructions suggested by exile360 be sure to expand the instructions in the section titled "Remove Norton Device Security Completely" [i.e. run the Norton Remove and Reinstall (NRnR) Tool in advanced "Remove Only" mode (Advanced Options | Remove Only | Remove)], which performs a more thorough wipe than running the tool in normal mode. For users who do not plan to reinstall their Norton product, the instructions posted at Uninstall Norton Device Security on Windows are the better choice. Also note the warning in that support article that running the NRnR tool in advanced "Remove Only" mode may remove other Norton products like Norton Utilities, Norton Family, etc.
  19. Hi spectrumfox: I don't want to interfere with the troubleshooting Porthos and exile360 are providing. Just note that if you want to remove Norton 360 for Gamers from your system then expand the section titled "Remove Norton Device Security Completely" in the support article Download and Run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool for instructions. Using the Norton Remove and Reinstall (NRnR.exe) in "normal" Remove and Reinstall mode should only be used if you want to quickly refresh your Norton installation to see if this can fix some odd glitch (e.g., error code, long scan time, etc.) with an active Norton product. You must run the NRnR tool in advanced "Remove Only" mode (Advanced Options | Remove Only | Remove) when you want to perform clean reinstall of Norton or (as in your case) you want to permanently remove Norton products from your system. You might still find a few orphaned files and registry entries for Norton 360 for Gamers after uninstalling from the Control Panel and then running the NRnR tool in advanced "Remove Only" mode (this is by design) but that might prevent the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) or other diagnostic logs collected by the Malwarebytes Support Tool from detecting Norton 360 for Gamers on your system. Also note that the NRnR Tool will not remove browser extensions like Norton Safe Web from your browsers. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v1909 build 18363.1256 * Firefox v84.0.2 * Windows Defender v4.18.2011.6 * Malwarebytes Free v4.3.0-1.0.1130 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba 256 GB NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  20. Hi Bad_Cookie: I think the update process has changed with Malwarebytes Free v4.3.0. I went to Settings | General | Application Updates in MB Free v4.2.3.96-1.0.1112 yesterday and clicked Check for Updates to initiate the installation of the latest v4.3.0.98-1.0.1130. After the installation finished I saw the pop-up shown below, which I've never seen before. Instead of clicking the blue "Got It" button I closed the pop-up with the "X" in the top right corner (highlighted in red below) and I was not switched to the the 14-day Premium trial (i.e., I remained on MB Free without having to deactivate the Premium trial in Settings | Account | Deactivate). ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v1909 build 18363.1198 * Windows Defender v4.18.2011.6 * Malwarebytes Free v4.3.0.98-1.0.1130 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  21. Hi exile360: From that Malwarebytes support article Verify Malwarebytes For Mac v3 Hasn't Been Tampered you referenced, which states in part: A code signature might be a better validation method than the SHA-256 checksum, but that doesn't help if the installer is compromised by a malicious actor before the installer is digitally signed and the SHA-256 hash is submitted to antivirus companies for whitelisting. Many of us still recall the fiasco in September 2017 when Avast distributed a "legitimate" signed version of CCleaner v5.33 from their download servers for almost a month before someone realized that the installer been modified with a Floxif backdoor trojan (see Catalin Cimpanu's 19-Sep-2017 BleepingComputer article Avast Clarifies Details Surrounding CCleaner Malware Incident about this supply chain attack). I was one of the ~ 730,000 CCleaner users who had their Windows registry altered by this Floxif trojan (see my 18-Sep-2017 post <here> in the Norton forum), although the second part of the payload that did the real damage was only uploaded to computers at a small number of select technology and telecom companies in a more targeted attack. At the end of the day, I still have to trust that Malwarebytes has a robust build environment that ensures their digitally signed installers and applications haven't been compromised in this type of supply chain attack prior to their official release. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v1909 build 18363.1139 * Firefox 82.0.2 * Windows Defender v4.18.2009.7 * Malwarebytes Free v4.2.2.95-1.0.1096 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U@1.60/1.80 GHz, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  22. Hi anti-virus: If I save the latest Windows version of MBSetup.exe v4.1.1.190 from https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/ to my desktop and then upload that .exe file to the VirusTotal.com site at https://www.virustotal.com/gui/, VirusTotal calculates the unique SHA-256 hash of that file (d1b822f717f3309973a94dda715c2c4b963d8714f477314f2b0827b834b7c16b) and then submits that SHA-256 hash to multiple virus engines (Bitdefender, Kaspersky, McAfee, etc.) for analysis. In this case, the MBSetup.exe file I downloaded is reported as safe by 70 of 71 different virus engines, so I can be confident that particular MBSetup.exe installer is safe to use. Jiangmin (an antivirus I'm not familiar with) is the only virus scanner that flags that MBSetup.exe as potentially unsafe/harmful, which tells me the sole Jaingmin detection is likely a false positive that can be safely ignored. Note that if I submit the same MBSetup.exe v4.1.1.190 to the MD5 File online hash calculator at https://md5file.com/calculator, it calculates the same unique SHA-256 hash (d1b822f717f3309973a94dda715c2c4b963d8714f477314f2b0827b834b7c16b) as the VirusTotal site. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v1909 build 18363.1139 * Firefox 82.0.2 * Windows Defender v4.18.2009.7 * Malwarebytes Free v4.2.2.95-1.0.1096 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U@1.60/1.80 GHz, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620

According to the support article Using Xfinity xFi Advanced Security this feature "provides an added layer of protection for your entire network by preventing you from inadvertently accessing malicious sites, blocking remote access to smart devices from known dangerous sources and monitoring network activity in real time to detect when devices are behaving in unusual ways that could indicate a network threat" so it doesn't sound like xFI Advanced Security could completely replace the protection of a full antivirus program like Norton Security Suite on your Win 7 SP1 machine. ------------- 64-bit Win 10 Pro v1909 build 18363.1139 * Firefox 82.0.2 * Windows Defender v4.18.2009.7 * Malwarebytes Free v4.2.2.95-1.0.1096 Dell Inspiron 15 5584, Intel i5-8265U@1.60/1.80 GHz, 8 GB RAM, Toshiba KBG40ZNS256G NVMe SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620
  24. Hi TimeuTroupe: I believe BillH99999 is correct that this is a generic warning for all Norton users. According to bjm_s' 28-Oct-2020 post <here> in the Norton Tech Outpost when you click "Yes" in that Malwarebytes Installer pop-up it simply opens the support article Installation Prerequisites for Malwarebytes for Windows, which suggests that you either disable your third-party antivirus and/or firewall (e.g., like the bundled Norton Smart Firewall) before proceeding with the update or download and run the Malwarebytes for Windows v4 offline installer to perform the update. I use Windows Defender for real-time protection on my Win 10 device so I didn't see this pop-up warning about a third-party Norton AV when I downloaded and installed the Malwarebytes Free v4.2.2.95-1.0.1096 update from Settings | General | Application Updates | Check for Updates, but I did see a pop-up nagging me to install Malwarebytes Browser Guard (see Krusty13's image <here> in the Norton Tech Outpost). According to the update checker's progress bar I had a large download on my first and third update attempts so I don't know what it was trying to download on that first update attempt unless I needed a full update for my Update Package (malware database) that took precedence over the Component Package v1.0.1070 update. That might be what happened, but it's a bit hard to figure out since my mbupdatr.log file (attached) shows my Component Package v1.0.1070 update started at 2020-10-14T21:03:59-05:00 [i.e., at 14-Oct-2020 at 9:03:59 PM my local time after a 5 hour correction for my Central Daylight Time (GMT-5) time zone] while my dbupate.log file (attached) shows a full Update Package (malware database v1.0.31356) was delivered at 2020-10-15T01:58:13Z (14-Oct-2020 at 8:58:13 PM local time?) that was followed by an incremental update (malware database v1.0.31358) at 2020-10-15T01:59:42Z (14-Oct-2020 at 8:59:42 PM local time?). mbupdatr.log dbupdate.log No worries, though, since I was eventually able to install Component Package v1.0.1070. I just didn't want to post in pal1000's thread Sometimes Check for Updates UI Buttons Do Nothing since the MB Premium users in that thread are reporting a variety of issues (including scheduled scans that don't run for 1-2 days) after a new Update Package (malware database) is delivered. ------------ 64-bit Win 10 Pro v1909 build 18363.1082 * Firefox 81.0.2 * Windows Defender 4.18.2009.7 * Malwarebytes Free v4.2.1.89-1.0.1070
