  1. @ Paula I use a realtime AV as well as realtime MBAM, and I have personally not ever had a conflict
  2. @ Jacktivity Awesome! Thanks for helping me with this. Yeah, I had just downloaded each just in case the iTunes wasn't possible.
  3. @ Jactkivity Thank you for your reply! So if I am understanding you correctly, I can just install iTunes and QuickTime on top of the already installed versions and most likely everything will be fine? I have done this for other programs, such as Pidgin, Firefox, and a few others with no problems. I downloaded just the QuickTime installation and then the QuickTime/iTunes Combo too. I have plenty of space left on my flash drive that I downloaded these installation files to, so I can just back up the music there before I do this
  4. @ Firefox I am no expert but that link definitely looks pretty fishy to me! I bet it is a scam/phishing/malware attempt. Why wouldn't they just ask you to delete messages, instead of asking you to click on a link. And why would 2009 be on the end of the link?
  5. @ lyndonpace Thank you for the information That helps. Just as a note, in the future, please erase what the person you are replying to said or just hit the "Add reply" button at the bottom of the page to reply. This makes the forum easier to read. You can address the person like I did with you @lyndonpace or lyndonpace:
  6. I will be updating QuickTime (and I want to update iTunes as well) on a system tomorrow that has a very slow internet connection, so its not very possible to update internally from the program itself (as I know from updating internally myself that the updates tend to be very large, for example, my last couple of updates were at least 80 MB). I have downloaded the installer/setup files for both programs (just quicktime and then quicktime with iTunes) onto a flash drive. My question is, does anyone know, if I uninstall iTunes, will the songs be kept on the system or will those be removed along with iTunes? I don't want to remove any of the songs but I don't want to leave the program not updated either.
  7. @ srtools I am not really good at thinking of these things, but maybe you might have some more?
  8. @ Ben the man This has never happened to me on Facebook or any other site. Before the screen went blue, if you had any time and saw it before then, were there any messages from Mbam asking you to ignore or quarantine something? That's the only thing I can think of, maybe something didn't get quarantined in time but I would imagine that Mbam would wait for you to choose ignore or quarantine, but I am not positive on that. Did you run mbam clean inbetween uninstalling and re-downloading mbam by any chance? If not, please go here and follow RubbeR DuckY's directions: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7038 (if you are still able to, that is) As for the rest of your question, I am not sure what is going on or how to fix it, I'll let someone who knows more than me answer that question. Good luck and I hope you don't have to reformat
  9. Just wanted to say, I clicked on the link in this post: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...st&p=141285 and got an IP block, but the rest of the page was still able to load.
  10. I think I've heard this before, but maybe a slightly different version.
  11. @ catscomputer well Mac is less exploited due to it being a much smaller percentage of the market share but it is becoming more popular, especially due to the impression that many people have that it is not prone to viruses, which isn't true, unfortunately. I actually was considering getting a Mac when I could afford one, because I was fed up with Windows-directed viruses. But now I know that Mac's aren't necessarily safe from these attacks either. I do like Mac though, but I am not as familiar with it as I am Windows. Mac is a great choice for using it for certain things, just as Windows is great for using for certain things Hopefully awareness that Macs can and are exploitable will begin to arise and people will realize that they need to protect their Macs and that NOT just Windows needs protecting
  12. Yeah :/ I post about a virus or security exploit on my page, and a few people with Macs reply "glad I have a Mac!" I'm like yeah maybe this particular thing doesn't affect Mac but there are plenty that do. I believe that MBAM is only for the Windows OS, but I am not 100% positive on that. I'm sure someone who knows for sure can give us a confirmation when they have a moment.
  13. I was just wondering if there are any Mac users here. I was talking with Exile about Mac rootkits and viruses, etc... and he gave me a couple of links from the Register, and I also found a good article on Sophos. I did see some links on Spohos for some downloads and Exile linked me to some Mac downloads on MajorGeeks I have several friends with Macs, mostly laptops I believe, and I want to help them get some protection or something for their computer. So my question is, for any Mac users out there or anyone with any experience with this or other knowledge, do you have a recommended program(s) for Macs to protect them from infection, and any on-demand scanners for detection? Any recommended free programs and/or recommended paid programs? Anything else? Any ideas and help would be much appreciated
  14. quick question for you spg Scott, since I didn't see it in here (maybe I missed it) do you have UAC turned off? On the two Vistas that I have used MBAM on, I have always gotten a UAC prompt when opening the program. I can't quite remember if I got a prompt when updating, though.
  15. Edit: I deleted the old copy, downloaded a fresh copy of the uninstaller, and it ran just fine. So this problem at least is resolved I was trying to install the flash uninstaller for adobe flash. from here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html Immediately after downloading it, I lost the internet connection on the computer, and I tried to open the uninstaller after, and a message popped up, "the installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete... (possibly due to a virus, etc...) It may be possible to skip this check using /NCRC command line switch. (not recommended). Does anyone know what this means? Or what might be wrong? If its relevant, happened on the system mentioned in this thread: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...st&p=140015 An "end task" message popped up when I went to restart (and it did restore the internet connection) and sprtcmd.exe was the task that needed to be ended :/ This is a laptop by the way.
  16. Hello and welcome to the forums! Please read the following entirely, paying special attention to the note at the bottom in green: Scan and post logs - read note at bottom in green If you're having Malware related issues with your computer that you're unable to resolve. Please read and follow the instructions provided here: I'm infected - What do I do now? If needed please post your logs in a NEW topic here: Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs When posting logs please do not use any Quote, Code, or other tags. Please copy/paste directly into your post and do not attach files unless requested. Please do not post any logs in the General forum. We do not work on any logs posted in the General forum. Please do not install any software or use any removal/scanning tool except for those you're requested to run by the Helper that will assist you. Using these other tools often makes the cleanup task more difficult and time consuming. If you have already submitted for assistance at one of the other support sites on the Internet then you should not post a new log here, you should stay working with the Helper from that site until the issue is resolved. Do not assume you're clean because you don't see something in the logs. Please wait until the person assisting you provides feedback. There are often many others that require assistance as well, so please be patient. If no one has responded within 48 hours then please go ahead and post a request for review NOTE: If for some reason you're unable to run some or any of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one. If you can't even run HijackThis, then just proceed and post a NEW topic as shown in the second link describing your issues and someone will assist you as soon as they can.
  17. Thanks for the great article, Ron I'll pass it along to all that I know! It's too bad for the legitimate companies, though, that sponsored links can be dangerous. I'm sure its causing them to lose out, but I'd rather be safe than risk clicking on a sponsored link, or any link that I am unsure of for that matter. I agree w. Swagger, definitely makes excellent publicity and public knowledge of Malwarebytes and HPHosts
  18. after some great help from Exile , about two minutes at most. I haven't actually timed it, though, maybe I should. I will and I'll post back tonight! If my AV is updating as its starting up though, it will take longer, which is really annoying sometimes :/ lol It was like 5 minutes or so before he helped me... ech.
