  1. You can most certainly run the scan on the limited account. Just be sure to update it first using "run as admin" and typing in the password before you update as you've been doing. You should also run a scan on the Admin account as well, but it is a good idea to scan accounts other than the admin account, so its good that you are doing so
  2. @ Beatrix Malwarebytes blocks Spyware As for your HostsFile, what managing software are you using with it?

  4. Hello jns11 and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org, and thank you for choosing Malwarebytes You should post your question here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=34048 as well as a full developers log so that someone can have a look at it for you. Also, that doesn't appear to be a full scan result... I don't see any malware name, just the key and then the (number/letter)string at the end... Also, when replying, please use the "ADD REPLY" button at the bottom of the page. Thank you
  5. Another tip, please just try running a QUICK scan if you haven't already, and let us know if that is able to finish
  6. awww cute!! other half says he wants a cat that big hehe
  7. Like I said, please visit the HJT forum if you think you're infected. As for Facebook, I recommend NOT using ANY applications on there. That increases the likelihood of getting infected due to hacked apps and/or bad apps to begin with. Also don't click any random links, and disable Flash whilst using Facebook. These will help you be safer on Facebook, but obviously aren't foolproof.
  8. Hello Manny, and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org Your brother's laptop is infected, which I know because of the fact that that message is occurring when trying to run Malwarebytes, not to mention all of the other stuff going on. Please read the following: We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums. Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available. Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help. If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you. Also, when replying, please use the "ADD REPLY" button or erase what the person you are replying to said, as this makes the forum easier to read. Thank you
  9. One thing that could happen is that your browser might flash unexpectedly and close and reopen, or just flash strangely, and other times you might not notice a thing. It's hard to say. It's never happened to me, at least as far as I am aware, but I've read about my description above happening when accidentally accessing a PDF exploit. Seriously, just take a visit over here and read this first if you are not sure if you are infected. There's no way to know for sure short of that if you are infected, and you clearly are concerned so please do yourself a favor and post there. Thank you
  10. Oh, I see what you're saying, CCMUA2009. So you got no prompts from Norton asking if you wanted to block or stop something? And Malwarebytes scans came out clean? Hmm. I am not quite sure if you could be infected. Are there any icons on your desktop or in the system tray to the lower right where the time is located that you do NOT recognize or that you did NOT put there? Again, if you are unsure, please visit the Malware Removal - HiJackThis forum, as it is impossible for us to know based on what you are telling us if you are infected or not. You may be infected, and you also very well may not be infected. It's hard to say.
  11. Most likely you're not infected if nothing was found in the scans and if Norton was blocking the infection. As for Adobe Reader, do you have JavaScript turned off in it? I keep mine off now just as a security thing, since that's often given as a work-around solution until Adobe has patched whatever vulnerability is found. Currently 9.3 is the most recent version, so that's good that you're up to date. I've chosen to keep my JavaScript off though, as that seems to be how Reader gets exploited the majority of the time. To make sure that that computer is not infected, you could visit the HijackThis - Malware Removal forum and read the "I'm infected - What do I do now" pinned topic in that forum. You've been on the forum a little while now, you should know where this is. If not, I can get you the links. As I am sure you know, it can sometimes take a while to get a reply (2 days or more at busy times).
  12. I'm sorry Maria, I am still confused. Could you please take a screen shot for me of this application? Open it up or take a screen shot of whatever part you are able to. If you don't know how, press "Prnt Scrn" on your keyboard. This is usually right at the top on the right side. Then, open up a new Paint document, and paste it in. Then, just copy the part of the picture showing the program, we don't need to see everything else that you have open. Then, open a new Paint document, paste it in. Save it to your desktop. Then, attach the file here in your next reply. To do this, below the text field, on the lower right, there is a button that says "Browse". Navigate to where you saved it, double click it to select it, then click upload, then click add reply as you normally would.
  13. Wait, first of all, there is no trial version. It's always FREE. Realtime protection, auto-updates, scheduled scanning, as well as some other features do require purchase, but manual updates and manual scanning and removal of malware is ALWAYS free for home use with no restrictions. Second of all, Malwarebytes does NOT include a pop up blocker (free or paid). What exactly did you download? Also, when replying, please use the "ADD REPLY" button at the bottom of the page. Thanks
  14. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaWoo82zNUA Check it out, its pretty cool
  15. Anti-virus removal tools should be gotten from the source when possible. McAfee Norton Edit: Sorry, should have read thru the thread first. Leaving links though incase anyone else who stumbles across this thread needs them
  16. Please don't continue this practice... its not legal and certainly not ethical either. Aside from that, yes, lets stick to the subject Enjoy the links I gave you!
  17. Okay, kitkin15.tk, I am back with some links for yah These links from Miekiemoes (one of our Administrators here) blog: I don't use an Antivirus, because I have never been infected... http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/08/i-d...use-i-have.html Top Ten excuses why people don't want to secure their computer http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/06/top...nt-want-to.html How to prevent malware http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/02/how...nt-malware.html Here is a link to a blog she wrote about backing up files (including info about data imaging): http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/07/bac...frequently.html And another link from her blog that would be good for you (and your aunt) to read: Increase of malware found on legitimate websites http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/06/inc...legitimate.html From BleepingComputer.com: (please ignore Google ads, StopZilla ads, etc...) Simple and easy ways to keep your computer safe and secure on the Internet http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial82.html This article is kind of old, but its still a good read and still is very relevant! Antivirus updating - why it's more important than ever before http://www.viruslist.com/en/analysis?pubid=153596013 Happy reading, and let me know if there's anything else I can help you with
  18. I'll dig up some links for you later on tonight kitkin15.tk, about why its important to have AV She should be even MORE concerned with her computer and internet safety because of using Facebook and Myspace ::shakes head::... which you clearly know May I ask why she thinks that you messed up her computer, though? As for the ghost image and memory, Firefox will likely know the answer
  19. Thanks for the information and links, Firefox I'll take a look at them later on when I have some more time, and I will definitely let you know if I have any questions or want more info
  20. Firefox, May I ask you what imaging is and how it works? Or, if you have some links where I could read about it myself? I'm just curious as I have no idea how it works, what it really is (other than it captures the system at the time you choose) or how it can resolve a malware issue as a result of going back to the pre-malware image.
  21. kitkin15.tk, You know this of course, and I'm sure it goes without saying, but its a very bad idea to go online with any computer with NO antivirus protection. Is the cost a problem for your aunt? One of the free choices (Avira or MSE) that I gave you earlier on in this thread would be an excellent choice for your aunts computer if cost is an issue If she insists, Firefox's idea would be a good one, but again, that's just not a good idea to go online without an antivirus
