Malwarebytes slow down programs

Recommended Posts

Hi there

Everytime after suspend and wakeup, Malwarebytes slows down every program. Starting Chrome or Outlook takes about 5 - 10 minutes. The only solution is to deinstall Malwarebytes

Windows Surface 4 with Windows 10 Version 2004 Build 19041.207

Any Idea?

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

Guess there is something unique about the Surface Pro 4 since at least one other poster is having similar issues as well.

I have the same issue with Ransomware Protection. I've disabled it for testing and the issue is gone so far. I will follow the suggestions from this post and hope to fix the it the same way

Yep, and I'm sorry to say as of 4/24's Beta version I'm still having the problem.  To anyone following the other thread, I'll be replying over on my thread and attaching my logs.

For what it's worth, I have a Surface Pro 2 and 5, a very old Sager laptop (2009), a home-brew desktop, an old Alienware laptop (2012), a home-brew HTPC (2010) and a new Alienware laptop that are all running the program with no issues.  It's just the Surface Pro 4.

Same problem here with a Surface Pro 4.  If MW Ransomeware is OFF then the machine is suitable for use and has no issues but once that is enabled machine hangs, waits, processes slow until to a crawl and basically makes machine useless.  Reboot does not fix.  Latest version of Windows 2004 - 19041.208.

Greetings,

I'm sorry that you're experiencing issues.  Please ensure that you are running the latest version by opening Malwarebytes and clicking the small gear in the upper right to access settings then select the About tab and click the Check for updates link and allow it to install any updates.  Restart your system if prompted and test to see if the issue is resolved.

If the issue persists, please do the following to provide logs for analysis and keep Ransomware Protection disabled until the issue is resolved to avoid the performance issues:

  1. Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Accept the EULA and click Advanced tab on the left (not Start Repair)
  3. Click the Gather Logs button, and once it completes, attach the zip file it creates on your desktop to your next reply

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks

Had the exact same issues running the windows 10  2004 insider build with premium 4.1 , the solution at the current time is to roll back to Malwarebytes 3.8.3.2965 and ensure system software  update is switched off in settings , keep on this version until MWB  can identify the issue , it bugged me for weeks , but then found a post offering this solution , everything has been running full tilt on the old V3 premium no problem , but windows 10 2004 and V4.1 seem to clash. link to download the old version  , making sure auto updates are switched off. Hope this helps

You do not have to go back that far.

CU 750 version of 4.1.0 is all you needed.

You also have the option of reverting to an earlier component package version, which will allow you to keep Web Protection enabled.
You can download this from here: https://malwarebytes.box.com/s/z6cravnwptrzx5tyjw36jq6zt6c7apsx

Once installed, you will need to disable the two update options found in Settings -> General -> Application updates to prevent the product from updating back to the affected version.

I suggest using the following clean install guide.

Please do the following Uninstall and reinstall using the Malwarebytes Support Tool

Please have lots of patience with the tool.  The first phase is a cleanup and does require a Windows Restart.
After the Restart, it may take 2 - 3 - 4 minutes till the Support tool screen shows up.   Please be patient and have faith.  Wait for it, whatever it takes.
The 2nd phase is where it offers to do a new Install. Say no and use the download from my above link and install the old version and disable the update before you do anything else.
