rsutton7 Posted November 20, 2019 ID:1346240 Share Posted November 20, 2019 Would someone please explain why a VAT tax is applied for a renewal of a Malwarebytes subscription? The VAT tax is applied to European countries, not the US.
Porthos Posted November 20, 2019 ID:1346242 Share Posted November 20, 2019 If you are located in the US, Are you using a VPN by chance? Just a thought.
rsutton7 Posted November 20, 2019 Author ID:1346247 Share Posted November 20, 2019 VPN should have no effect on price as it is being purchased in the US, being used in the US, and I believe if using a VPN it just changes the location from one spot to another spot in the US. To answer your question I am not using a VPN. I believe a US tax would be more appropriate then a VAT tax if you live in the US.

Some use VPN's to "pretend" they are in another country to bypass geo lockouts to view content from other country's that the US is blocked from. rsutton7 Posted November 20, 2019 Author ID:1346255 Share Posted November 20, 2019 Thank you Porthos for your response. My address and credit card information to pay for Malwarebytes shows US. With me purchasing the subscription in the US from a company that has a home base in CA baffles the heck out of me why we pay a VAT tax.
David H. Lipman Posted November 20, 2019 ID:1346256 Share Posted November 20, 2019 Good Point @Porthos if one uses a VPN its Exit Node may emanate from another country and thus Product Prices and associated Taxes may be skewed to be aligned with the IP address of the purchaser. sman Posted November 20, 2019 ID:1346264 Share Posted November 20, 2019 A remote access of teh system should clear whether VPN is in use and the country/location from where system is being used..
rsutton7 Posted November 20, 2019 Author ID:1346270 Share Posted November 20, 2019 I don't use a VPN. I am purchasing from a US based company. I live and work in NJ. A VAT tax is still listed. If I purchased it in, say Portugal, I could understand a VAT tax. It baffles me why the company places a VAT tax on a subscription and not a state tax. sman Posted November 20, 2019 ID:1346273 Share Posted November 20, 2019 A simultaneous phome call 7 video conferencing should also clear the location identity..
sman Posted November 20, 2019 ID:1346275 Share Posted November 20, 2019 @rsutton7 may be you can send screen shots of the system with malwarebytes license page and desktop shot , taskbarshot, what is my IP shot for clarity. this is my view. to help u out.. rsutton7 Posted November 20, 2019 Author ID:1346278 Share Posted November 20, 2019 Has anyone else from the US looked at their invoice and checked for a VAT tax. Possibly Malwarebytes does this to automatically?
sman Posted November 20, 2019 ID:1346280 Share Posted November 20, 2019 @rsutton7 if you are hesitant to post the info i suggested you may even PM it to forum admin or mail to sales team and take up further.. dont think invoices wil be raised with such glaring errors, so better to give info authenticating location of use and take up further. my view.. exile360 Posted November 20, 2019 ID:1346297 Share Posted November 20, 2019 Yes, it has to be an IP issue. For whatever reason the purchase page is registering a European IP I bet. No idea why it is happening as I'm not on your network obviously, but that would be the reason as purchase pages typically use the user's IP address to determine their location. If you are attempting to make the purchase through a company network on their premises I would advise checking with your IT staff to have them investigate what might be causing the issue as I am certain they would be able to track it down, especially if you are using one of their systems on their local network. sman Posted November 20, 2019 ID:1346305 Share Posted November 20, 2019 More than anything, while purchasing, the user info, his contact address etc. would have been provided, which should be the basis for any billing and not IP and if Ip differs from contact location, then it should have been sorted out then 7 there by sales / It team. something which ought to be looked into. sman Posted November 20, 2019 ID:1346309 Share Posted November 20, 2019 even mode of payment, bankers etc. also would have nailed the location..
