Folder exe virus, MB deleting entire folder

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Currently my external harddrive and several USB's are infected with this folder.exe nonsense. The only thing which works to counteract this at the moment has been to disable virus protection programs (mb, avg).
I have tried removing the virus with mb. However malwarebytes just deletes the entire folder with it.

Is there a way in which I am able to remove the virus without deleting all my files and contents of folders.

I have tried several ways I've found online and none seem to work, all from random sites.

Hopefully someone here is able to provide some help.

Thanks

Hello and post-32477-1261866970.gif

P2P/Piracy Warning:

If you're using Peer 2 Peer software such as uTorrent, BitTorrent or similar you must either fully uninstall them or completely disable them from running while being assisted here.Failure to remove or disable such software will result in your topic being closed and no further assistance being provided. If you have illegal/cracked software, cracks, keygens etc. on the system, please remove or uninstall them now and read the policy on Piracy.

Download, install and run Panda USB Vaccine

The usb vaccination performed by this program will permanently disable any autorun.inf functionality of your usb stick. After the vaccination you will be able to use the usb stick normally and files (even malware) can be copied to/from it, however they will be prevented from executing automatically. This vaccination can only be reversed with a reformat of the usb stick.

Download and save Panda USB Vaccine from http://www.pandasecurity.com/uk/homeusers/downloads/usbvaccine/

  •

  • Double click the file USBVaccineSetup.exe to start the installation.

  • During setup uncheck the option to Run Panda USB Vaccine automatically when computer boots.

  • Start Panda USB Vaccine.

  • Insert your usb-stick/external HD, choose the correct drive letter (i.e "F:\") and click Vaccinate USB.

  • When it's finished, close the program.

  • You can delete the downloaded USBVaccineSetup.exe when you`re done if you you wish.

Next,

Go here: http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/free-tools/how-to-use-stinger.aspx follow the instructions and run McAfee Stinger, leave all settings as default. Let me see the log when complete. Location is in the FAQ list....

USB Vaccine when run, it simply changed it to Vaccined. Didn't seem as if anything actually went on. And my folders remain as .exe's

Thanks for the update and logs, we continue. Unplug all USB flash drives and external drives, now we run MB on your PC only...

Run Malwarebytes

On the Settings tab > Detection and Protection subtab, Detection Options, tick the box 'Scan for rootkits'.
Click on the Scan tab, then click on Scan Now >> . If an update is available, click the Update Now button.
A Threat Scan will begin.
With some infections, you may see this message box.
'Could not load DDA driver'
Click 'Yes' to this message, to allow the driver to load after a restart.
Allow the computer to restart. Continue with the rest of these instructions.
When the scan is complete, click Apply Actions.
Wait for the prompt to restart the computer to appear, then click on Yes.

Post log:

After the restart once you are back at your desktop, open MBAM once more.
Click on the History tab > Application Logs.
Double click on the scan log which shows the Date and time of the scan just performed.
Click 'Copy to Clipboard'
Paste the contents of the clipboard into your reply.

Next,

Run MB again with all USB flashdrives plugged in.

Run Malwarebytes, select "Scan" from the menu bar. Scan options will open. Select "Custom Scan" then select "Scan Now"

An options window will open, select only flash drives, ext HD. Select "Start scan"

Post log when complete...

Next,

With all USB devices still plugged in continue:

download the following program to your desktop:

Unhidetool

Once the program has been downloaded, double-click on the Unhide.exe icon on your desktop and allow the program to run. This program will remove the +H, or hidden, attribute from all the files on your hard drives. If there are any files that were purposely hidden by you, you will need to hide them again after this tool is run.

Please be patient as this may take several minutes to run, it will scan and fix all Hard drives on your system. You will see a new window with the drive being processed, typically C:\  as below:

unhide-1.jpg

Changing as the next drive is processed as below:

unhide2-1.jpg

You will get a success alert at the end.

Unhide3.jpg

Re-boot, a log will be saved same place as the tool was run from, post that log....

I ran that unhide it program and nothing has happened. My folders on all drives remain as .exe's or no longer show still.

F drive (main HDD) also seems to be infected and only showing 4 folders, however there must be folders if I'm using programs which aren't showing up.
The folders which are present, are now .exe's as well.

This kind of infection hides the normal folder and presents its own file that mimics a folder with the .exe extension. Usually malwarebytes will kill the infection and unhide will then show the previously hidden folders...

Thanks for the update, good news at last... Do the following to clean up:

Download "Delfix by Xplode" and save it to your desktop.

"Delfix link mirror"

Double Click to start the program. If you are using Vista or higher, please right-click and choose run as administrator

Make Sure the following items are checked:

    Activate UAC
    Remove disinfection tools
    Create registry backup
    Purge System Restore
    Reset system settings

Now click on "Run" and wait patiently until the tool has completed.

The tool will create a log when it has completed. We don't need you to post this.

Part of the routine will be to create a registry back up with ERUNT,  the back up will be created here:

C:\Windows\ERUNT

When all is known to be well with your system you can delete that back up folder if you consider it as not needed...

If there are any log files etc from our process either delete or drag/drop to the recycle bin, empty the bin when done....

Next,

Read the following link to fully understand PC security and best practices, you may find it useful....

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/407147/answers-to-common-security-questions-best-practices/#entry2316629

Let me know if we can now close out,

Thankyou,

Kevin
