  1. Hard Reboots are not good for the computer and should only be used as a last resort A hard reboot (also known as a cold reboot, cold boot or cold start) is when power to a computer is cycled (turned off and then on) or a special reset signal to the processor is triggered. This restarts the computer without first performing any shut-down procedure. (With many operating systems, especially those using disk caches, after a hard reboot the filesystem may be in an "unclean" state, and an automatic scan of on-disk filesystem structures will be done before normal operation can begin.) It may be caused by power failure, be done by accident, or be done deliberately as a last resort to forcibly retrieve the system from instances of a system freeze, critical error or virus-inflicted DoS attack. It can also be used by intruders to access cryptographic keys from RAM, in which case it is called a cold boot attack.

  5. you have a good point Exile thanks for the input,I really wasn't looking at it from there view point there upset there losing money, I understand that...I just think that you should be able to share your music if you want without such a fuss as long as your not making any money off of it. before the internet and Limewire I don't remember there being such a fuss when people made dubs of their cassette tapes and gave it to a friend example: were hanging out listening to some tunes and I play something you really like and you say "hey man make me a copy of that song" and I made a quick dub for you and didn't charge a dime is that fair usage or piracy ?? I know there is a fine line & this is a touche subject

  15. It is dangerous and incorrect to assume that because the backdoor has been removed the computer is now secure. Although the backdoor has been identified and appears to have been removed, your PC may be compromised and there is no way to be sure the computer can ever be trusted again. A backdoor is a software program that gives an attacker unauthorized access to a machine and the means for remotely controlling the machine without the user's knowledge. A backdoor compromises system integrity by making changes to the system that allow it to by used by the attacker for malicious purposes unknown to the user. Typically it's installed without user interaction through security exploits, and can severely compromise system security. Such infections may open illicit network connections, use polymorphic tactics to self-mutate, disable security software, modify system files, and install additional malware. These backdoor infections may also collect and transmit personally identifiable information, without your consent and severely degrade the performance and stability of your computer. A backdoor infection can give intruders complete control of your computer, log your keystrokes, obtain passwords, steal personal information, etc. You are strongly advised to do the following: Disconnect the computer from the Internet and from any networked computers until it is cleaned. Call all your banks, financial institutions, credit card companies and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and put a watch on your accounts. If you don't mind the hassle, change all your account numbers. From a clean computer, change all your passwords (ISP login password, your email address(es) passwords, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, Amazon, any online activity you perform, requiring a username and password). Do NOT change your passwords from this computer as the attacker will be able to get all the new passwords and transaction records. Back up all your important data except programs. The programs can be reinstalled back from the original disc or from the Net. Due to its backdoor functionality, your computer is very likely to have been compromised and there is no way that it can be trusted again. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be to do a reformat and re-installation of the operating system (OS). To help you understand more, please take some time to read the following articles: When should I re-format and reinstall my OS What are Remote Access Trojans and why are they dangerous How do I respond to a possible identity theft and how do I prevent it How and Where to backup your files Restoring your backups These types Of Infections Can Be Complicated Its Highly Recommended You Have An Expert Check It Out We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums. please follow All the instructions below and an Expert will assist you Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. 16. A modem (modulator-demodulator) is a device that modulates an analog carrier signal to encode digital information, and also demodulates such a carrier signal to decode the transmitted information. The goal is to produce a signal that can be transmitted easily and decoded to reproduce the original digital data. Modems can be used over any means of transmitting analog signals, from driven diodes to radio. The most familiar example is a voice-band modem that turns the digital data of a personal computer into modulated electrical signals in the voice-frequency range of a telephone channel. These signals can be transmitted over telephone lines and demodulated by another modem at the receiver side to recover the digital data. A router is an electronic device that interconnects two or more computer networks, and selectively interchanges packets of data between them. Each data packet contains address information that a router can use to determine if the source and destination are on the same network, or if the data packet must be transferred from one network to another. When multiple routers are used in a large collection of interconnected networks, the routers exchange information about target system addresses, so that each router can build up a table showing the preferred paths between any two systems on the interconnected networks. A router is a networking device whose software and hardware are customized to the tasks of routing and forwarding information. 17. I don't know of any conflicts between Windows Defender & Malwarebytes as Yardbird mention a lot of people run them together (myself included) with no issues try the exclusions Buttons provided you with and see if that solves the problem. Windows Defender will conflict with some AV's that have anti-spyware components included, some AV's will actually turn it off and disable it to avoid conflicts,so thats a possibility too, what AV are you using? have you tried to reinstall it - windows xp (its included with Windows Vista + newer I just noticed that last statment, thats a real good possibility are you detecting anything? just because the symptoms have subsided doesn't mean your all clear If your detecting a virus that won't go away you should have an expert check it out its free and won't cost you a thing Please read and follow the instructions in I'm infected - What do I do now? Then post a NEW topic here. An Expert will assist you in removal process McAfee usually does have trouble playing nice with the other kids
