  13. :) junk ? what's it called has the staff checked it out yet ?? I'm with Mountaintree if its not fully function its worthless & shouldn't call itself free AV
  14. :) same reason you run anything in a sandbox "what happens in the sandbox stays in the sandbox" testing malware samples can be dangerous I wasn't too sure how they would act when ("I stated poking and prodding at them" ) trying to analyze and scan them, I had a sandboxed window open and was trying to scan the samples with Malwarebytes context menu scan ,as you know when a sandboxed process spawns another process that process also starts in the sandbox, when it didn't work I tried to run Malwarebytes in the sandbox which also failed from there my curiosity and (maybe a little OCD) took over of why it failed and why it didn't work and I just had to figure it out or it would have drove me nuts that's what this topic was about true the scanner can run outside the sandbox and detect the files & it seems it can run fine inside a sandbox and still detect the files no problem if you have a question always ask someone will have an answer
  15. ISSUE: I need to get the latest database onto a computer that cannot access the Internet. SOLUTION: You can manually copy the database from a working computer using a flash drive or CD onto the infected PC. Our database file is stored in the following locations. * Windows XP and 2000 * C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref * Windows Vista and Windows 7: * C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref You can also download a manual update from here - NOTE: This manual update will always be way behind in version level compared to updates from within the program Please note that if you have a version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware older than 1.46, that it will not be able to connect to our update servers. If you have an outdated version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then please click on this link to be forwarded to one of our download mirrors in order to get the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware To troubleshoot the issue here are some steps to diagnose update issues: Step 1 Please note that if you have a version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware older than 1.46, that it will not be able to connect to our update servers. If you have an outdated version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then please click on this link to be forwarded to one of our download mirrors in order to get the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. If that does not resolve the issue, then please continue on to steps 2 thru 5. Step 2 Click on this link and let me know what it says. It should be just a 4-digit number in the upper-left corner. Step 3 If you use Norton Internet Security, and you have the Add-On Pack installed, then please note that the Add-On Pack will block the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware update process. Symantec has discontinued support for the Add-On Pack, and they have asked us to recommend to their customers that they uninstall the Add-On Pack and replace it with Norton Online Family. Since Norton Online Family is compatible with the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware update process, replacing the Add-On Pack with it will solve any Norton Internet Security related update issues. Step 4 Please download and run the traceroute utility at this link. It will run a traceroute to our update servers to see if it can find the connection issue, and then it will write it to a log, and open that log in Notepad when it is done. Please either save the log as a Text File and then attach it to a reply, or copy and paste it into a reply, and I will forward it on to our server guy. Note that it may take several minutes to run, and it may look like it is not doing anything for a few minutes. Normally it takes longer when there are errors that it has to log, but it's rare for it to go more than 10 minutes. Step 5 Please download TCPView from Microsoft at this link. This utility will monitor everything that is accessing the Internet or your local network. All you have to do is run TCPView, and then run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and start the update. Watch TCPView to see if mbam.exe shows up in the list. It will be pretty obvious, because it highlights it in green. I need to know what "Remote Address" Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is trying to connect to. Once it shows up in the list, you can right-click on the line for mbam.exe, and select 'Copy' in order to paste it into a reply. It will tell me what I need to know. Below is an example of what the line you are looking for will look like inside the following code box: mbam.exe:3656 TCP vista-x64:52135 cdn-208-111-168-7.ord.llnw.net:http ESTABLISHED
  16. Got it Malwarebytes was running outside the sandbox & would scan the files that were inside the sandbox but wouldn't start under the supervision of Sandboxie it kept getting runtime errors '0' & '440': for the automation error so I couldn't run a custom scan from the context menu inside a sanboxed instance of Windows Explorer I found the solution in the Q&A area Section A-15 I had to register some of Malwarebytes files that where to run from inside the sandbox, inside the sandboxed mirror Malwarebytes Program directory made the regsvr32 batch file for the files regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll" regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\ssubtmr6.dll" regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\vbalsgrid6.ocx" copied that code pasted it to a notepad and saved it as fix mbam.bat ran it and when completed successfully wala I still couldent get a dveloper mode log of them but I got Malwarebytes to scan the files from the context menu there where 2 files scanned both of them are a variant of koobface Malwarebytes detects one of them already submitted them for testing Update - Malwarebytes running great under Sandboxie now I'm no longer having any problems using the context menu scan option & can run it in in regular & developer mode with no problems edit for update 9/6
