Missing characters?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

For some reason, Malwarebytes is missing letters in some places. (see attached image -- the "Register" button says "Registe", the "Exit" button shows "Exi", and the "www.malwarebytes.org" button is missing that last 'g'.)

I found a similar thread here where a user had the same problem, but none of the offered solutions worked.

I've been having this problem ever since Malwarebytes 1.46, and I still have it now....

Is there any way to fix this?

(By the way, my antivirus is AVG 2011 Free and I use Comodo Firewall, in case that matters. Everything is up to date.)

Please run the following scanner and post back the logs

Download
DDS
and save it to your desktop

Disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click
dds.scr
to run the tool.

When done, the
DDS.txt
will open.

Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:

  1. DDS.txt

  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop

  • Please include the following logs in your next reply:
    DDS.txt
    and
    Attach.txt

Hello,

Sorry for the somewhat late reply -- I've been kind of busy the past few days and haven't gotten a chance to go on the computer.

Anyways, here's the DDS.txt file it opened up:

It didn't show me a prompt for any sort of Optional Scan, but an Attach.txt file did show up.

I wasn't sure whether or not to attach the file or copy/paste it right here, so I attached it because that's what DDS told me to do.

Please do the following to see if it resolves the issue:

Windows XP:

  • Click on Start and select Control Panel
  • Open Add/Remove Programs
  • Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Restart your computer very important
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or post to ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Well I'm not seeing anything obvious as to what might be causing this issue.

I would suggest maybe doing a full disk check

You may have corrupted files on your disk. Please try running the following.

First close ALL Applications as this routine will automatically restart your computer.

Just a thought.....

I have seen this on computers that have a low resolution, or when you run your system in safe mode (because the resolution is low).....

What happens if you Maximize the MBAM Program (I noticed from your screen shot that it is not maximized), do all the letters then look correct?

What resolution is your monitor set to? Seems like the last letter of everything is getting cut off.

My screen resolution is set at 1024x600.

I use a "netbook", so that's the highest it goes.

What happens if you Maximize the MBAM Program (I noticed from your screen shot that it is not maximized), do all the letters then look correct?

I don't know how to start MBAM maximized (changing the setting on the desktop shortcut didn't work), but if I start it normally (not maximized) and then maximize it, the letters are still missing.

Yes that would be my guess. Themes are very font dependent and many people that create fonts do not create them properly so that they support all sizes and characteristics.

Since you're on a NET Book then your resolution is a bit different and not well supported for things like that. Look around though and I'm sure you can find one that works better and still looks good.
