usbdeview logs deleted, potentially infected?

Recommended Posts

i have a program on my laptop called usbdeview that tracks all usb devices that was plugged into my laptop

about a week ago i noticed that some of these logs were deleted randomly

could this be due to someone plugging in a usb virus that deleted the logs

i have had usbdeview for a month on my laptop and there were about 20 logs or so but when i checked today over half of them were deleted could this be due to someone tampering with logs or does windows purge logs from time to time?
i also have usbdrive installed and none of my usbdrive logs were modified

You already have a topic here. https://www.tenforums.com/general-support/212514-usbdeview-logs-gone.html

But if you would like for the computer to be checked out

Let's go ahead and run a couple of scans and get some updated logs from your system. Please read the entire post below before starting so that you're more familiar with the process

Then follow each step in the order provided. Unless otherwise asked, please attach all logs

Please make the following system changes:

  • If you have not done so already - Enable System Protection and create a NEW System Restore Point
  • Temporarily disable your antivirus real-time protection or other security software first only if it blocks or interferes with the scans or downloads.. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed
  • Temporarily disable Microsoft SmartScreen to download software below only if needed. Make sure to turn it back on once the downloads are completed
  • Disable-Fast-Startup
  • Show-Hidden-Folders-Files-Extensions

Please run the following scans:

  1. Click the following link and run a  Scan with AdwCleaner
  2. Click the following link and run a  Scan with Malwarebytes
       RESTART the computer
  3. Click the following link and run a  Scan with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Example image of where to click to attach files when posting your reply

Then be patient for the next expert to take your case.

Thank you

You also have a post on the Elevenforums

For future reference most forums do not appreciate users making multiple posts for the same issue.

I have the same answer. Data corruption is the only thing I can think of for your concern. I've never seen malware that removes database entries for USB database.

Please run the scans as requested above and attach back the requested logs

Thank you

The logs do not indicate any signs of infection.

Please open an elevated admin command prompt and copy/paste the following and press the Enter key.

SFC /SCANNOW

Then copy/paste the following into the command prompt and press the Enter key and post back the results of both

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

All I can surmise is that some type of data corruption occurred on the USB database.

Perhaps uninstall it. Remove all data from the program. Restart the computer and reinstall it if wanted or contact the author and ask them about it.
