district9 Posted August 15, 2023 ID:1583137 Share Posted August 15, 2023 I was running 0.9.19.xxxxx happily on several PCs (a mixture of W7 and W10 versions) until I decided to take care of the "license expired" message and looked for new version. Installed new version and on every PC I get this. The "fix now" and "start protection" buttons do nothing. One of the computers is vanilla, never seen a Malwarebytes product, no proxy, no crazy firewall rules. MB3SERVICE logs at the bottom. >>> ******** MBUPDATR starting to apply update!! district9 Posted August 15, 2023 Author ID:1583142 Share Posted August 15, 2023 Sorry don't know how to edit OP. This is what happens if installed as an upgrade to 0.9.19.... the "get details" button simply opens this forum.
Old_Ex-Geek Posted August 15, 2023 ID:1583173 Share Posted August 15, 2023 Similarly, I had to reinstall windows 11 after an issue. Tried re-installing the latest malwarebytes anti-ransomware beta today. It seemed to install fine, then brought me to this screen, but fix now and start protection seem to do nothing. It just stays on this screen. No other malwarebytes products, using default windows defender, etc etc. Help?
Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted August 15, 2023 Root Admin ID:1583231 Share Posted August 15, 2023 We're looking into this. Hopefully I'll have an answer within a day or two. The Standalone is unsupported and no longer updated, but should still activate and work from my understanding. Engineering is checking on it. Thank you for bringing it to our attention
Old_Ex-Geek Posted August 16, 2023 ID:1583322 Share Posted August 16, 2023 It was a very desirable free tool, I hope you might continue to keep the definitions updated.

It is not really about "definitions" It relies entirely on active application behavior in memory to make detections, meaning your system would first need to actually be infected by a live ransomware threat for Ransomware Protection to detect anything and attempt to stop it. The full protection in Malwarebytes Premium is a better choice as it can keep the file running in the first place. Staff Solution tetonbob Posted August 18, 2023 Staff Solution ID:1583641 Share Posted August 18, 2023 Hello. Thanks for your report. We've devised a way to address the issue. Download the new installer, and run it. If you're installing over the existing installation with the issue, you will then be able to activate protection.

My question is, if it is no longer being updated, can it be relied on or should we all find another program, really?

Porthos Posted August 18, 2023 ID:1583672 Share Posted August 18, 2023 If one really cares about their data, backing up to an external drive preferably as an image at least monthly, and keep it disconnected between backups. No matter the software you use for protection, backups are WAY more important.

I am just wondering if the fact that this program is no longer being updated makes it no longer worth using.

district9 Posted August 18, 2023 Author ID:1583680 Share Posted August 18, 2023 To porthos: Dude, this is a forum where people come to discuss their findings related to a specific piece of software in beta. It's for feedback not ranting. "The solution is Malwarebytes Premium. " is similar to what you get in Windows forums when a very specific error is being questioned - "Reinstall WIndows" or "Buy a new PC" or 'just get Apple products". C'mon. Not being helpful. We're not here to rant about people not doing their backups, as true as that might be...............

Please see the following with regards to data backup Backup Softwarehttps://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/136226-backup-software It is also recommended that you do not keep the backup drive connected to the system all the time. It should only be connected to do the backup and then once the backup has completed disconnect the drive. The reason for this is that if your computer were to become infected and the backup drive was connected then the infection could potentially infect, delete, or encrypt your backup as well.
