Windows XP does not have Lifetime Support

Hello, ladies and gentlemen here!

I have now followed this and many other threads long enough. The way Windows XP and Vista users are talked about here is beyond good and evil.... And then to hype Windows 10, and even Windows 11, the biggest crap of all times, is already unbelievable. There are still many people like me for example who think Windows XP (and Vista) is the best operating system ever. And there are countries and institutions that depend on these systems. Moreover, the argument that these operating systems are insecure is not really true, either. nimportequoi.gif I am sure that Windows 10 and 11 are attacked and successfully infected much more often due to many reasons and especially because everyone gets this new stuff foisted on them by Microsoft, whether they like it or not. And nothing is really mature yet. One breakdown after the other! Attacks on the Windows XP and Vista operating systems are now hardly worthwhile for hackers and criminals. Do not forget, the newer is not necessarily the better! And of course you can delete as many references to these old systems and Malwarebytes versions here in this forum as you want. We already know this kind of procedure from Microsoft. smilie_denk_24.gif They have also tried to embezzle collected knowledge from people. Anyway! A little more respect in dealing with customers of these so-called legacy operating systems Windows XP and Vista would be very desirable and appropriate. I bought a premium licence back then after Malwarebytes announced that they would support Windows XP and Vista lifetime in the form of signature updates. Lifetime! I sincerely hope that Malwarebytes sticks to its promise and does not disappoint such users. ouiii.gif Because what you are doing here is disappointing, though. 😕

Kind regards, AstroSkipper matrix.gif

Lifetime means good for all future versions of the software NOT any specific version of the software. No company can be expected to support 6 yr old software or should be expected to.

Users that use unsupported OS's like XP and Vista do so at their own risk.

No, Malwarebytes advertised to support Windows XP lifetime after support of Windows XP ended. Your more recent do not support Windows XP anymore. Please don't twist the arguments!

I'm sorry but you misconstrue.  Malwarebytes nor any software vendor can extend the lifetime of an OS just like a Muffler Manufacturer can not extend the life  of an Edsel.

Malwarebytes sold Lifetime Licenses of their software.  That will extend to Windows 11 and beyond.  They can not guarantee to support an Operating System past it's manufacturer's End of Life (EoL) just like the Muffler Manufacturer can not guarantee to support an Edsel.

The problem is one can not predict nor guarantee the environment of the future.  It is the environment that dictates the viability and sustainability of a Product's existence in its Environment.

You paid for a software License or Licenses and you got a good deal as you have something that is no longer available to new users.  But you can continue to use that License or Licenses in the future no matter what OS or environment as long as Malwarebytes remains a company providing its niche software.

Sorry no, you are wrong. Here is one of many news in terms of Windows XP support: https://www.techspot.com/news/56108-malwarebytes-pledges-to-provide-lifetime-support-for-xp-users.html
And a short quotation from there:

Malwarebytes pledges to provide lifetime support for XP users

By Himanshu Arora March 24, 2014, 1:30 PM

Anti-virus specialist Malwarebytes announced today its new Anti-Malware Premium suite. According to the company, the suite will provide lifetime support to XP users, which still make up 20 percent of its user base. The news comes just a week after Avast warned of the vulnerabilities users might face once the official support for Microsoft Windows XP ends.

I've been using Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1 for years on the XP side of my dual boot machines, and I'm very grateful that it still works after all this time.
I never expected direct technical support to be available for 3.5.1 indefinitely, but I had assumed that pattern updates would be provided for as long as they are compatible with the program.
I hope that is still the case, I can see no reason to discontinue them just for the sake of it.
Yes, old operating systems are potentially vulnerable, but as has been said, why would hackers bother now when their user base is now so small?
In any case, Malwarebytes is still doing its job there, and any protection is better than no protection!
At the very least I hope that if the decision is made not to provide pattern updates any more, that a reasonable notice is given of this, so people can research alternatives, if they are available.
🙂

I hear 'ya but...

That was 9 years ago and the Environment has changed.  They did their best but can't sustain the product and the new environment makes that unsustainable.  They could not predict, nor could you or I, what the environment would be like 9 years into the future.

  • AdvancedSetup changed the title to Windows XP does not have Lifetime Support

I have changed the title to show that XP does not have lifetime support.

As for when 3.51 will end support - I don't have the exact date but it is expected soon.

Thanks for the information! But the title was not the desired one. My topic, my title. I have specially added a question mark after Windows XP Lifetime Support because that is the topic here. The title you have chosen is only your answer, but not my topic. I wanted the title "Windows XP Lifetime Support?"

Hi Dave-H:

Please see n3MUmBgg5FA4vJrBbxBSc4PNv7's 13-Mar-2023 topic Legacy 3.5.1.2522 - Sudden "Red Triangle" "Your updates are not current" in the Malwarebytes for Windows board.  When you say "pattern updates" do you mean that you're still able to download the latest updates for your malware definitions (i.e., your Update Package version) before you run a scan with the legacy version of Malwarebytes?

AdvancedSetup's 29-Mar-2023 post <here> in that thread indicates that Malwarebytess will soon be changing the end of support / end of life dates for the legacy Malwarebytes v3.5.1 for Win XP and Vista in the support article Malwarebytes for Windows v3 Product Lifecycle.

Just an FYI that I still have working Vista SP2 laptop.  This old machine rarely gets booted up (and is never used online) since I purchased my Win 10 laptop but I'm still interested in Malwarebytes' future plans for supporting Win XP and Vista.  If Malwarebytes officially ends supports for the legacy Malwarebytes Premium v3.5.1 this Vista machine will likely be recycled or I'll change the OS and install a Linux distro.

Once again, addressed to the moderators! Please, change the title of my thread either to "Windows XP Lifetime Support?" or "Does Windows XP have lifetime support?"! The current title is not what I wanted and finally misleading. Thanks for your efforts!
