Unable to contact update server

Recommended Posts

I have managed to download the updated version using the installer link provided in another thread and protection is now on and RAM is ok. BUT it will still not connect to check for updates and it has affected Windows Defender, which won't connect for updates either. The message is "unable to contact update server". I have tried rebooting. I have done the Farbar recovery scan and MB check, which I've attached.

I have same problem with you too. I try multiple restart  , remove and reinstall. But it still show activated license blog in the grey color.

That's a bit different from mine nunaka...you might want to start a new thread. I didn't uninstall.

Hoping someone can help soon!

I also can't connect for Windows updates.

:welcome:

Let us get a clean install of the current version. 3.3.1

We have another tool called MB-Clean which will automate the whole process for you.

The clean removal tool will backup your license information and then re-enter the license to the new install.

Tool can be found at https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb_clean

1. After downloading the tool run the tool.

2. The tool will automatically clean up the older possibly damaged installation and will ask you for a restart.

3. Restart your system and then the MB-Clean tool will prompt you to re-install the latest product.

4. Click on "Yes" to reinstall MB 3.×.

5. Now you will have the latest product installed.

If it does not offer the new install after the reboot you can download and install from here.

@JGarnett looking at the mb-clean-results.txt file shows that it failed to automatically reinstall Malwarebytes because it could not access the internet to download it. This aligns with your other symptoms of being unable to activate Malwarebtyes after manual installation, not being able to obtain Windows Updates, and not being able to update Windows Defender. My guess is you have a greater OS issue that is preventing applications from accessing the internet. I see a McAfee leftover in one of the posted log files, so I would recommend running their cleanup utility and rebooting your PC: http://us.mcafee.com/apps/supporttools/mcpr/mcpr.asp

ran the mb clean tool again and once again it wouldn't download and I attach the new file.

The latest download from https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3 has the fixed database in it

Download and Run the installer. Please restart the computer after the install.

Please let us know if that solves the issue
