prairie dog Posted August 17, 2009 ID:111061 Share Posted August 17, 2009 My friend just called and ever since he updated his itunes, now he cannot access the internet? When he types in google, it says cannot find google.comhttp: . He updated via the update link through apple, so i dont think this is a virus problem. His other computer runs fine, so it is not an internet connection problem. It seems to be adding an http after the .com??? Any thoughts on what settings might have been changed? Uninstalled itunes and still has the problem?

Issue is still happening, but ONLY when he is at home?? Everything is fine when at work. I'm trying to get him to send me these Registry keys. Could these keys be the problem, even though everything works fine at his work???ps. i had him download FF and he gets the same message. Also, when he goes to banking sites, he gets a different error message (if that means anything). Thanks for any suggestions.
Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted August 20, 2009 Root Admin ID:112444 Share Posted August 20, 2009 If he is taking the SAME computer to work and its working correctly and NOT working at home then my guess is that his router has been infected. I would try doing a RESET on the router, then going back onto the router and set a password so that only he knows the password. If it was the actual computer infected then it should be messed up at his work as well. Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted August 20, 2009 Root Admin ID:112455 Share Posted August 20, 2009 Well I think you need more exact details. Not sure what's going on but seems difficult to believe that the PC goes to the wrong place at home, but works properly at work, yet another PC at home on the home network is not affected. There must be something else going on there just not sure what. Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted August 20, 2009 Root Admin ID:112460 Share Posted August 20, 2009 No problem.FYI - if you use the ADDREPLY instead of the REPLY button it will stop quoting which often is not needed on all replies.Thanks.
prairie dog Posted August 20, 2009 Author ID:112464 Share Posted August 20, 2009 It was his proxy setting for work that was causing the issue at home

Firefox Posted August 20, 2009 ID:112497 Share Posted August 20, 2009 glad you got it fixed for him, hey prairie dog have you ever tried using a program called teamviewer to do remote control and fix computers in other cities. Its free.... I use it quite often.
Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted August 20, 2009 Root Admin ID:112503 Share Posted August 20, 2009 TeamViewer is an excellent remote control product but it's not free if you're using it to fix computers for money. Its similar to MBAM, free for home use but any commercial use requires you to purchase a license.http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx
exile360 Posted August 20, 2009 ID:112528 Share Posted August 20, 2009 I couldn't figure this issue out simply because of it adding http at the end of each address entered into any browser. How the heck could proxy settings cause that?
