I have had a message from exile360 saying that Devin should be able to get Malwarebytes working again hopefully.

I haven't heard again from Devlin.

exile360 message also asked about Firefox's  recovery software.  In my post #49 above I said I preferred Firefox's suggestion and asked Firefox to help me.

20 years of my only copy of data has been wiped off my USB stick.

I suggest you remove the stick and look into a professional data recovery service. Just to be safe since it's your only copy.

hi
i have that 'problem' every time a new version was released and I install over it
below is how I fix it, by trail and error,
1) run mbclean (no harm do it again)
2) reboot
3) in win go to programs files (or whereever mb files is stored) and delete that folder
4) install lastest mb (or whichever version you want)
5) run mb and it shoudl work as if you first install (you may need to activate again so copy you key in advance)

good luck

note: this is my user experience and I do not know your computer configuration - pls decide wisely for yourself - and there are many experts here are assisting you

just want to mention again and highlight,
On 'unable to connect service'
I found that on step 3,
there maybe some remaining files that prevent the new installation
that after I deleted the whole remaning MB folder,
reboot and reinstall, everything work great.

Thanks for your concerns.

I had done that twice and still getting the error.

They've told me that they are getting closer to what is wrong and Devlin is going to help me. Hopefully Firefox will help me with my USB stick lost data

OK, two more screenshots we'll need to check out please!

  1. Open Regedit like before
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\AllFileSystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
  3. Right click on ContextMenuHandlers and choose Permissions...
  4. Click Advanced at the bottom
  5. In the window that pops up, make sure you are on the permissions tab (it should be the first one) and take a screenshot
  6. Click the Owner tab at the top and take a screenshot
  7. Upload both screenshots please
