toolbar detected ?

Recommended Posts

virustotal.com displays the correct reading for a Home-made Toolbar =>> Malwarebytes   >>  PUP.Optional.ClientConnect

As an Optional item, you should be able to add exclusions for this single item ...............

Note that it is not called malware toolbar, just Optional.ClientConnect. A much better description than most other detection tools.

It could also just be the fact that you do not have it registered ??

Hi, @mrdodrop: :)

If you have a file MBAM detects as malware or PUP that you think should NOT be detected, then I would suggest submitting the file to the Research Team for analysis.

To do so, I would suggest that you please start by reading the instructions here:

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/3228-please-read-before-reporting-a-false-positive/

Then, I would suggest that you please submit the file in the requested format and VT report, as requested, in the False Positives section of the forum here:

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/forum/42-file-detections/

The Research Team will then determine whether the detection needs to be maintained or not.

Thank you,

It's not malware, it's a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). Conduit is a rather well known PUP of late as their toolbars and/or browser search add-ons (which some users view as search hijackers even though they had to agree to allow it changing their search settings when they installed whatever software included Conduit) are quite frequently included with/bundled with other unrelated software.

PUPs aren't malware, they are simply items that a user might find undesirable such as adware etc. and you may safely add Conduit to your Malware Exclusions if you wish to continue using the Conduit toolbar without having Malwarebytes Anti-Malware detect it any more. It is not a harmful piece of software, simply one that many users find undesirable and prefer not to have on their computers.
