  2. some of the paths in that post are not entirely correct in Step two. it should read: Please do the following to see if it corrects it: NOTE: You still need to do all the steps involving Internet Explorer, even if you do not normally use Internet Explorer as your internet browser. This is because Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware takes its connection settings from Internet Explorer. You can still use an alternative internet browser afterwards, as long as the connection settings in Internet Explorer are correct. Step 1: Verify Internet Connectivity of Internet Explorer: Click on Start and select Run In the Run box copy and paste the text in the following code box exactly as written and press Enter or click on OK:REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" /v GlobalUserOffline /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f Try updating again and if it does not work then please proceed to Step 2 Step 2: Exclude Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware's Files and Folders From Other Active Security Programs: For Windows XP: C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys For Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well Now try updating Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware once more and if it does not work then please proceed to Step 3 Step 3: Verify Your Internet Connection Settings: Open Internet Explorer Note: It MUST be Internet Explorer, not Firefox, Opera, Chrome or any other internet browser [*]Click on Tools at the top and select Internet Options Note: If you do not see Tools, press the Alt key on your keyboard and it will show up [*]Click on the Connections tab [*]Click on the LAN settings button [*]Under Automatic configuration make sure that the box next to Automatically detect settings is checked, if it is not, then click the box next to it to check it [*]Under Proxy server make sure that the box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections). is not checked and if it is, click the box next to it to uncheck it [*]Click on the OK button to close the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window [*]Click on the OK button to close the Internet Options window [*]Try updating Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware again to see if it now works correctly http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...st&p=162097 The link above shows how to do the last steps - Thank You -
  3. In a simple answer.... Yes it would have helped prevent you from getting infected. Malwarebytes is designed to work hand in hand with your Antivirus software, and if you are using the Full Version (Pro) it had real time protection.
  4. Well I for one can tell you that I use Microsoft Active Sync with my HTC Touch Pro 2, and also use the full version of Malwarebytes and I have no issues with using Active Sync. Have you entered exceptions for active sync in your Symantec Endpoint protection?
  5. Those items you could not remove were more than likely still present on your system. You were going to need the help of the Experts in the HJT section to complete the full removal of the malware. They are backuped up in there as they are helping quite a few people with infections. When you went to safe mode (the malware was probably disabling your safe mode) the malware caused your BSOD and may have modifed some of your windows files causing a reinfection. If you did a system restore back to factory default, then you are more than likely have a clean computer now. When you do a factory restore, it will wipe out the entire C: drive. (More than likely the virus did not copy itself to the restore location as it is protected). However if you did a system restore (to a previous date), then the virus is still more than likely there. Now you have to make sure you have a good protection installed. Make sure you have layered protection. Have Antivirus software, malware software, and firewall software. If you want to make sure your computer is clean, install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and update it then run as scan.
  6. Hello starwarsgeek, and welcome to Malwarebytes.org Yes it looks like the malware is preventing you from running MBAM.exe. Please follow the below instructions... 7. Just to add to the comments the others have said..... Here on your list you show that you use Windows Security Essentials..... You also use On demand: .... Panda, Kapersky... I hope you only have one Antivirus installed as having more than one Antivirus running can cause problems.
  8. No problem glad to help.... If you have any further questions dont hesitate to ask.... I am sure someone here will know the answers....

  10. Well just to add... I have worked on computers that have several accounts, and even though you scan as an Admin and it may scan the other accounts, it will not scan the registry for the other accounts. It is better to log in as each user and perform a quick scan with each user to get all the infections out. I do this and under each account it usually picks up infections that need cleaning. Yes it is a little time consuming, but well worth it.
  11. Hello haggis69, and welcome to Malwarebytes.org Well its a little hard to say without knowing exactly all you have done to that computer. If you feel that you may not want to take that chance, and also see if you computer is fully clean, I would advice you to do the below instructions to be sure that you are clean and good to go, without having to take any chances. We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums. Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. 12. Hello EsCa, and welcome to Malwarebytes.org If the above help that noknojon provided you does not help... There is malware out there that will allow you to install malwarebytes, but as soon as it is done installing it deletes or disables the mbam.exe file. If this is the case then follow the below instructions. We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums. Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. 14. Sorry to hear that you may be infected.... If you have iexplorer.exe running in task manager, and you dont have IE open then its probably cause you are infected. The good Experts in the HJT section will help you get back up and running and virus free.
  15. Hello Doris, and Welcome to Malwarebytes..... First try this: Please try this on the computer that is having an issue. 1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel. 2. Restart your computer (very important). 3. Download and run this utility. mbam-clean.exe 4. It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to). 5. After the computer restarts, install the latest version from here. mbam-setup.exe Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates. Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray and that you can run a quick scan and all is working as expected. NOTE: If the above steps do not work, post back here with any errors you may have received and we can try something else.
  16. iexplorer.exe is the file that is used when you have Internet Explorer open. Although some malware may use that as a file name depending on its location. With that said..... and since you already posted in the HJT section... If you suspect that you have a virus or malware running on your computer its best to wait for the experts to give you a hand. They are busy there so please be patient.

  18. Not sure how your ISP has things set up.... but more than likely it is searching for an IP, it usually does not take it too long though..
  19. I would start by updating all drivers (not just the video card). Check the cooling make sure nothing is overheating? Is there a cooling fan on your video card? Is it working? How much dust is inside your computer? Too much dust will cause it to overheat. What are the temps on that box?
  20. While you are waiting to get a reply in the HJT section..... You can read through this post: So How Did I Get Infected In The First Place? It give you a good understanding of what software you may want to install and use to prevent getting infected.
  21. Hello lectrifyin1, and welcome to Malwarebytes.org Not sure about your licencing, you may need a corporate license for the product, so check into that.... Anyway... If it keeps coming back, then you are still infected probably with a rootkit. It is possible that since you are in a work environment, you may not have admin rights to be able to fully remove the virus and the registry keys that need to be removed. You will have to follow these instructions below: We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums. Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. 22. Well that was a long shot .... Normally Avast does not cause problems working with AV, then again all computers are different. Go HERE for a list of error codes. Your error code is: Error 721: An unknown error occurred during filesystem enumeration. Contact support. If uninstalling and running the mbam clean tool does not solve it, you will probably have to contact support. Also maybe one of the programs may see your post and help you out. Do you have any other apps running at the time the you run a full scan?
