  5. It was caused because you had IE6 reinstalled with SP2 with IE8 engine running in the background including the tabs that IE6 did not understand. You could have Uninstalled it via Add/Remove Programs, click Show Updates and select Windows Internet Explorer 8.0. The when you reinstall it, make sure you reboot immediately after you install. But its fixed now so no big deal.
  6. You are quite welcome, should you have any other questions dont hesitate to ask.

  10. Well that all depends on your surfing habbits and what version of malwarebytes you have. Some folks like to run a quick scan daily (free version) after they are done for the day and after they are done surfing on the internet. If you are going to be using the free version make sure you always do an update before you do your scans. Others (full version) have it set to automatically update once a day, and then automatically scan daily. These options are only available in the full version. So you can see the best way would be to have the full version as it will protect you as you are surfing and also you can automate things better. Just my thoughts....
  11. Well I for one think that is a loaded question. It is not fool proof for say, but it will definitely help. The security you have installed on your system is only as good as the person using it. For example, if you get a notification that something is trying to install, and you know it is probably bad, and you choose to run it anyway, you will get infected. MBAM is designed to block websites that have malicious code on it with the IP Protection. But if you go searching for porn for example, and we are blocking that site with MBAM and you choose to ignore it, then its a good chance you will get hit. I have a good AV and use MBAM with protection on, and I heed the warnings that they both give me and I yet to get infected. (knock on wood). Its more a thing of having the protection in place and following safe surfing habits.

  13. there are some compatibility issues with system lockups with some versions of McAfee. Just make sure you add exceptions for the following files in your Mcafee program as listed below: Please exclude the following files from your antivirus: Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well For Windows XP: C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys For 32 bit versions Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys Please post back and let us know how it went.
  14. Great, glad it worked, now make sure you re-install you anti virus software and add the exceptions to mbam like I stated above...
  15. Glad to hear that worked for you and that you now have the full version.
  16. Please try this: mbam will not install - Code 2 error, mbam.exe not found Please go here: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=29028 And see if that might help get Malwarebytes running for you
  17. If you got that error when running the clean too, its most likely cause the tool had nothing to do or delete. Try reinstalling tha MBAM program. If you can not install or if it installs but deletes the file mbam.exe then you are more than likely infected with malware. You can try these steps if they do not work for you then read on: mbam will not install - Code 2 error, mbam.exe not found Please go here: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=29028 And see if that might help get Malwarebytes running for you If the above did not work for you then follow these steps: We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums. 22. Do you get any error codes when you install it? There is some Malware out there that deletes the mbam.exe file. You can try this below and see if it helps you. If you do get it to run, make sure you udpate and perform a quick scan. mbam will not install - Code 2 error, mbam.exe not found Please go here: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=29028 And see if that might help get Malwarebytes running for you
  23. Hello twospirit, and Welcome to Malwarebytes.... Maybe someone will stop by and give a a comparison, but here is my feeble attempt to tell you the difference. The free and pro versions are exactly the same product. The exception being that in the Pro version you will have real time protection, scheduled updates and scans. The pro version also has the IP Protection module that will help block unsafe web sites. The cost of the full version is quite inexpensive and well worth the price considering its a one time charge for a lifetime subscription to the database updates as well as program updates. Tech support is free whether you use the free version or paid version.
