So let me understand a little better.... You have the Tax File (your taxes) but you can not run the TurboTax software cause the program files are missing? So you need the TurboTax 2008 software?

If I am not mistaken, Turbo Tax saves your data files in the My Documents folder under a folder called TurboTax or Tax or Taxes..... Have you looked in there? The file will use this type of name format: *.tax2008 (* being the name of your tax file).

I see that you are using windows xp SP2.... if that is correct? If so do the following: Some malware messes with your firewall settings and with winsock and your lan settings. That post marely states that it is being blocked because OVH is hosting over 81 malicious sites on that range, 213.186.33.x which falls where SystemRescueCD is also being hosted. It is quite possible that they are inocent like you say. Its really up to you which boot cd you like. I for one like using the UBCD or Hirens for my bootable cd's.

it is probably that you were not fully infected cause something like your av may have blocked some of the executables that were required to load the malware. But you had some traces left behind, so MBAM detected them and you removed them using MBAM..

Please let us know what operating system you are using. If you are using Windows XP then you have to be logged in as an Administrator for you to be able to update. (if you are not logged in as an admin in windows xp the update button will be greyed out) If you are running windows Vista or Windows 7, right click on the shortcut and click on Run as Administrator (then you should be able to update.) Malwarebytes is not currently able to run off of a boot disk. Malwarebytes was designed to run on the current PC in normal mode (preferred) so that it can perform its best, and to avoid causing any undue damage to your operating system.

running a good temp file cleaner like CCleaner and a good defrag program would not hurt at all...

@ mountaintree16 Thanks.... we are all here to help each other.... @ RickyVonComputon OK now that we know IE is installed, now lets make sure you have it in the exceptions in the windows firewall. You have to set Internet explorer to allowed in the Windows firewall. You might as well check to see if iTunes is also listed as allow and also Check to see if Avast is allowed. Once you checked those and allowed them check to see if you can access any websites using IE. Let us know your results.

RickyVonComputon are you saying you do not have IE installed on your computer? You mentioned you uninstalled it. Make sure you have IE installed and configured according to the settings mountaintree16 has suggested cause Malwarebytes needs IE in order to update.

Its a good start, but some malware will exploit any security updates that have not been installed and still infect a computer if updates are not current. So one wants to make sure any installed software is always up to date, including operating system, office, acrobat, flash players, media players, etc.
