Ran Malwarebytes and now the sound is gone

Hi

Please help. I ran the Anti-Malware scan for the first time about 3 months ago - and after running it I had no sound - though everything is switched on.

Then, last week the sound magically reappeard all by itself.

I ran anti-malware scan last night again and guess what - no sound - again.

My laptop is a x61s lenovo ThinkPad.

Please help.

Thank you for the reply - I read that when asking for help not to use the General topic so thats why I put it in under the other heading.

My sound only came back last week after being off for months. IT couldnt find anything wrong with it either. Then I ran the scan and now its gone again. Im so upset!!!

I checked in Sound, video and game controllers and its SoundMAX Integraged Digital HD Audio is listed and in the properties it says its working correctly and Device usage is listed as enable. Is that what you mean?

I can see from your post that you are using:

[Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.41

Database version: 3222

Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3

You need to update the program and scan again after the reboot. Current Program version is now v1.44

Update and Scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Start MalwareBytes AntiMalware (Vista users must Right click and choose RunAs Admin)
  • Please DO NOT run MBAM in Safe Mode unless requested to, you MUST run it in normal Windows mode.
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Select the Update tab
    • Click Update

    [*]When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab

    [*]Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

    [*]When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

    [*]Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

    [*]When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply

    • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

The current definitions are: 3724

Please download the latest driver for you sound card from here and save the file to your desktop or another convenient location where you'll be able to find it but DO NOT install it yet.

  • Click on Start and select Control Panel
  • Open Add/Remove Programs
  • Uninstall the following if found:



    • SoundMAX



    [*]Reboot your PC

    [*]Once your PC starts up again, log into Windows and double click on 7ka114ww.exe to begin installation of the drivers and follow the onscreen instructions to complete installation, rebooting if necessary.

Please see if your audio functions normally after performing scans with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
