Computer freezing....

Recommended Posts

Hello

Am working on a fresh install of xp home 32 bit sp3, all updates. Running Microsoft Security Essentials also. I have the full paid version of MBAM installed but on bootup i'm getting the red x on Security Essentials, MBAM loads, then the computer freezes. I had to boot into safe mode and uncheck MBAM at startup then it loaded fine with Security Essentials getting the green check on it.

I was going to change the startup to Automatic(Delayed Start) but that option isn't there.....

Any other ideas?

Thanks

did you enter exceptions for MBAM on your Microsoft Security Essentials software?

Try this first:

Please exclude the following files from your antivirus:

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well

For Windows XP:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For 32 bit versions Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

Please post back and let us know how it went.

Hello

Thats what I did try next, I entered in the first three and that seemed to do the trick. I also entered in the other ones too anyway. I've rebooted about 5 times now and it looks like its working now....

@ Sartori -

Please note that Malwarebytes is set for a delayed startup - It is not instant turn on like other programs - This allows your normal startup to enable first -

Thank you - :)

EDIT -

Please hit Fast Reply or Add Reply at the bottom when responding - :)

Okay, well on my win 7 tower theres an extra option for automatic(delayed start) on that xp machine theres only automatic.

Sartori,

You should create a ".bat" file.

If you want to delay the start any soft by 10 seconds, so can write a batch file as follows:

@echo off

ping -n 10 localhost > nul

start "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe"

Save the file as "startmalwarebytes.bat" and have your start up menu point to that.

Delete the original entry of this process and put created file above.
