crogonint Posted May 12, 2020 ID:1380749 Share Posted May 12, 2020 Well, I didn't think that the Maptools Suite was THAT archaic, but I guess I was wrong. Fresh install of MalwareBytes, because I'm observing some malware like behavior. Unfortunately, it didn't get any hits on any actual bad stuff, but it did tick off Maptools as unrecognized. false positive.txt
Staff miekiemoes Posted May 12, 2020 Staff ID:1380750 Share Posted May 12, 2020 Hi, Can you zip and attach this MAPTOOLWINLAUNCHER.EXE file; so we can have a look? Thx!
crogonint Posted May 12, 2020 Author ID:1380754 Share Posted May 12, 2020 Sure thing. I just noticed, there's another copy of the file a couple of directories up in the folder: C:\Users\James\AppData\Roaming\JWrapper-MapTool\JWrapper-MapTool-00053648849-complete I'll zip that up and include it as MapToolWinLauncher2.zip MapToolWinLauncher.zip MapToolWinLauncher2.zip
Staff miekiemoes Posted May 12, 2020 Staff ID:1380755 Share Posted May 12, 2020 Hi, This is detected by our MachineLearning engine, which helps to protect even better against 0day threats. Unfortunately, as this is a heuristic engine, it's possible False Positives happen. Also see here for more explanation: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/238670-machinelearninganomalous-detections-and-explanation/ Thanks for reporting these, as this helps to finetune the engine, so these won't be detected in the future anymore. This should be fixed by now. Please give it some time (max 10 minutes) in order to have it populate, so detection won't happen anymore.
crogonint Posted May 12, 2020 Author ID:1380757 Share Posted May 12, 2020 I already read that post before I created a new post. Thanks for your help! Hey! Since MalwareBytes didn't detect anything, I'm also going to try SpyHunter and Spybot. Are there any other big malware scanners I should try as well, before I give up? There used to be a forum to help people track down malware back in the day. Does anything like that still exist today?
Staff miekiemoes Posted May 12, 2020 Staff ID:1380758 Share Posted May 12, 2020 Hi, I can't answer for Spyhunter and Spybot as I don't use these. This forum helps with malware removal as well: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/forum/7-windows-malware-removal-help-support/ Bleeping Computers is also a recommended forum: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/
