Malwarebytes suddenly makes my PC slower 2.0

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm bringing back again the issue with Ransomware Protection: ON. Unfortunately today my PC started having the same problem and I have to disable Ransomware Protection to fix the issue. I'm using the version: 4.0.4.49.

Thank you

My first post last September.

Hi @tokis,

Which areas of the computer are impacted? Are all programs affected? What about actions such as starting up and shutting down the computer?
After Ransomware Protection is disabled, does the issue disappear immediately?
When Ransomware Protection is enabled, is this a consistent occurrence? Does the issue immediately present itself when the computer is started?

We'll need to obtain some additional troubleshooting data.

  • Open Malwarebytes.
  • Click Settings and enable the Event Log Data setting within the General tab.
  • Please download run_procmon.bat using the link below.
    https://malwarebytes.box.com/s/he92cwwd71sa0w7waiub8wx69ymb5d4i
  • Open your Downloads folder.
  • Double-click CX41PDv.png run_procmon.bat. Click Yes if prompted by AVOiBNU.jpg User Account Control.
  • Note: If you are prompted by Windows SmartScreen, click More info followed by Run anyway.
  • A blue window will appear. When prompted to carry out the tasks, please reproduce the issue occurring.
  • Once done, click inside the Command Prompt window and press Y on your keyboard followed by Enter.
  • Upon completion, a file named HSPwQfy.png procmon-log.zip will be saved to your Desktop. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  • Note: If the file is too large, you will be provided instructions to upload the file to a file hosting website (wetransfer.com).

Please rerun the Malwarebytes Support Tool afterwards and respond back with the generated files.

correct I mean 1.0.810, is there a way to downgrade to a previous version?

They are trying to get to the bottom of the issues and the data requested will help a lot.

If you feel you cant help out the only way back is to return to version 3.8.3 and disable updates. We can assist with that as well.

Turn off the firewall is not an option.

It wont hurt for the time it takes for it to run. But... You can keep ransomware off it it solves the issues.

You may wish to revert back to the 3.8.3 version while we continue to analyze what is causing this issue.

Use the support tool  to uninstall and after the restart click NO when it asks to install the current version.

The current KB articles will help you to set version 3.x from updating to 4.x for now

If you're having issues with the batch file, you could manually download and run Process Monitor instead: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procmon

Further details on the current issue you're experiencing would be helpful.

We have a new Anti-Ransomware build that includes performance improvements which you could also try. See if there are any improvements with the issues caused by Ransomware Protection.

Details (including a download link) can be found here: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/211708-latest-version-mbarw-beta-v-0918807-build-278-released-feb-5-2020/
Before installing, you will need to temporarily uninstall Malwarebytes version 4 (which can then be reinstalled once Anti-Ransomware standalone is removed).

Here is a download link for an earlier version of Malwarebytes version 4: https://malwarebytes.box.com/s/z6cravnwptrzx5tyjw36jq6zt6c7apsx

As of now I found that the programs that are affected are programs that process video files and music files. I found as well that it takes more time than usually when restarting and shutting down the computer but I'm not sure if its related with the issue. The problem disappears immediately after I disabled the Ransomware Protection as it was with Malwarebytes 3.

Keep in mind that I didn't face that issue after update (v 1.0.627) of previous version and an earlier version Malwarebytes 4.

Thanks for the information. Can you provide the names of the software you're using along with the steps you're taking that result in the issue occurring?

I'm facing the issue with programs like sony vegas, adobe premiere pro and avidemux (free and open-source).

Thank you for the information. We have a defect filed for this issue.

Can you try adding the installation folder for Avidemux and the other software as an exclusion in Malwarebytes? This was found to mitigate the issue.

  • 2 months later...

I too am having this issue.  I have a case open:  3031073

I run Win7 Media Center for TV watching and recording.  When I connect XBox360 to Media Center it takes forever to accept inputs from remote if it ever does.  nine times out of 10 it disconnects......because the PC has locked.  Hard reset is required.  When running any video or sound on PC, it lags tremendously and sound stutters.

I removed MWB and it all stopped.  Everything was working as it was supposed to.  I have since reinstalled version:

MWB version:  3.8.3.2965

Component version:  1.0.629

Update Package version:  1.0.16112

Everything is working great.

You did not have to go back that far. This will provide better protection than 3.8.3.2965

You also have the option of reverting to an earlier component package version, which will allow you to keep Web Protection enabled.
You can download this from here: https://malwarebytes.box.com/s/z6cravnwptrzx5tyjw36jq6zt6c7apsx

Once installed, you will need to disable the two update options found in Settings -> General -> Application updates to prevent the product from updating back to the affected version.

I suggest using the following clean install guide.

Please do the following Uninstall and reinstall using the Malwarebytes Support Tool

Please have lots of patience with the tool.  The first phase is a cleanup and does require a Windows Restart.
After the Restart, it may take 2 - 3 - 4 minutes till the Support tool screen shows up.   Please be patient and have faith.  Wait for it, whatever it takes.
The 2nd phase is where it offers to do a new Install. Say no and use the download from my above link and install the old version and disable the update before you do anything else.
