Kodi blocking

Recommended Posts

I'm inclined to agree with 6yruser.

Although MB has no political bias, I can't help thinking that databases can be corrupted by people that do.

I stream all my media, the streaming sites that work best for me, get autoblocked by MB, however only by the trial premium version, it's happened twice now. MB updates, installs the free trial and auto blocks.

I've deleted MB now because it in my opinion it is acting like the programs I'm trying to protect against, because the sites your program is blocking, have never caused a problem for me, yet they are potentially in breach of the law forced out across the world by America, yet strangely, not enforced IN America.

An option for end users to agree to block sites upfront would be nice, instead of the convoluted means to unblock sites afterwards.

MB has become an unwanted spin-off from the nannystate mentality.

Hello and Welcome!

Are you aware that you can just exclude Kodi from Malwarebytes and you would not have any issues using it?

Simply go to Settings -> Exclusions -> Add Exclusion -> Exclude an Applications that Connects to the Internet and browse to the Kodi executable.

Just to add a bit of first-hand info regarding these streaming sites here; I suspect they are blocked due to the fact that they often link to ads/pop-ups/redirects which advertise/try to install PUPs and sometimes actual malware.  I know this because I will sometimes go hunting for new threats and PUPs, and the sites that I often use for hunting link to videos streamed from those very sites you mentioned among others and they pretty much always have embedded redirects, auto-generated pop-ups that show up whenever you try to click on any of the streaming video's controls as well as auto-generated ad redirect pop-ups that show up as soon as the page with the embedded stream is loaded and they host all manner of nasty stuff from fake Java, fake Flash Player, fake codec plugins (most of which are actually just junk browser add-ons with search redirectors, trackers and other garbage) to actual malware/exploits and tech support scams (those lockscreen ads telling you that your PC is infected and that you need to call their 'official Microsoft support phone number' to get cleaned up etc.).  Even when the ads being displayed are 'legitimate' (like for online flash games and the like), the pop-ups themselves are still rather disruptive and persistent.

That said, yes, you can always just exclude them if you wish, however blocking them based on these behaviors is in the best interest of most users so I'd rather Malwarebytes continue to block them personally just for the safety of the users that don't know how to deal with such ads/scams/junk.
