MB 3.7.1 - Ransomware Module

Recommended Posts

There's still an issue with MB 3.7.1, the Ransomware module and video play stuttering.  I haven't checked all video players but iTunes video is definitely affected.  With the previous version, BBC iPlayer, VLC Media Player, YouTube and video played in Chrome (possibly other browsers but I primarily use Chrome) all momentarily froze and then recommence.

Ransomware protection will have to remain disabled for now.

Not saying its not an issue in your case, I just wanted to add that I watched a whole movie last night using VLC and did not encounter any issues with all protections enabled in MB3 3.7.1

Thank you for the file! If you don't mind, the following would also be helpful:

  • Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard at the same time.
  • Type msinfo32 and click OK.
  • A new window will open. Click File followed by Save.
  • Give the file a name, select your desktop as the location and click Save.

Thanks for the file.

Focusing on Google Chrome, can you try running the browser in incognito mode with Ransomware Protection enabled and check if this has any impact on the issue.
https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95464?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en-GB

If that has no impact, please perform a clean boot using the steps below:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

After performing step 4, scroll through the list and re-check Malwarebytes Service.

Once you've restarted the computer, ensure Ransomware Protection is enabled and check if the issue occurs.

If this helps at all, when I was encountering this issue I also noticed some audio interference from time to time, especially when streaming video, and discovered the root cause, while related to Malwarebytes' effect on latency, was actually primarily being caused by the overclock on my CPU due to the voltage increase that comes with it, resulting in electrical interference with the onboard HD audio chip on my motherboard.  Once I disabled the overclock the issue went away.  In my case at least, Malwarebytes was just a contributing factor and not the root cause, at least for the most recent build of Malwarebytes (the issue was far worse and more frequent in past builds and I suspect that they may have improved it some in the most recent updates though it is still present on occasion when overclocking my system, just not as bad or as frequent and I no longer have the delays during system shutdown).
