Malwarebytes 3.0 still cannot be considered a fully fledged Antivirus products as it doesn't have some of features most Antivirus have to be considered one.

hoping malwarebytes to not have all of an anti-virus features like others vendors already do going in wrong side ! and anti-virus in these days ain't anymore a anti-virus .(they’ve make it even worse when have built-in with a system’s tools  )

see here:

"With the launch of Malwarebytes 3.0, we are confident that you can finally replace your traditional antivirus, thanks to our innovative and layered approach to preventing malware infections using a healthy combination of proactive and signature-less technologies"

He also refers to it as a "next-generation antivirus replacement", not an Antivirus by itself. @David H. Lipman could tell you more about it.

Quite correct, Malwarebytes 3.0 is not an actual antivirus and we have never claimed that it was.  That said, we are confident that it can provide as good as, and even superior protection to a standard antivirus because we have developed new technologies which do not rely on standard signatures or heuristics but instead are capable of stopping an attack in its tracks before the infected file(s) even get onto your system.  This is accomplished via our Malicious Website Blocking, Anti-Exploit and Anti-Ransomware components which, when combined with our more traditional signature based heuristics in our Malware Protection, result in a robust layered solution designed to protect users from all malware, with or without an antivirus installed on the system.

OK, which part from Marcin's posting would suggest that Malwarebytes 3.0 is not an antivirus????

"With the launch of Malwarebytes 3.0, we are confident that you can finally replace your traditional antivirus"

So, replace it with what? With a pdf. reader? No! With a firewall No! With Malwarebytes 3.0 which is supposed to protect you as AN ANTIVIRUS!

If it looks like a duck and quack like a duck, it is a duck.

Just as I stated above, you can replace it with Malwarebytes 3.0 which is a next-generation solution which includes new signature-less protection components making it capable of stopping malware as good and even better than traditional antivirus software.  If it were an antivirus then we would not be talking about replacing your AV; we'd instead advertise that we built an AV and would be calling it something along the lines of Malwarebytes Anti-Virus, but instead, we've simply named it Malwarebytes and much like many of the other next-generation solutions out there from other vendors (which also are not/do not claim to be antivirus), we claim that our offering is capable of replacing your antivirus because of how effective it is at keeping you safe from threats on the web.

As an analogy, think of it this way.  An inventor creates a helicopter capable of travelling as fast as a traditional jet airplane and carrying just as many passengers.  That inventor then markets his new 'super-copter' as a replacement for airplanes.  That does not mean that his invention is actually a airplane, does it?  No, it simply means that because of its capabilities, it is able to replace airplanes because it can fulfill the same needs, even though it is/uses different technology from airplanes.

If you take a look at our homepage at www.malwarebytes.com, it currently says the following regarding Malwarebytes 3.0:

MALWAREBYTES 3.0: NOW STRONGER AND SMARTERMAKES
ANTIVIRUS
OBSOLETE

Four layers of malware-crushing tech. Smarter detection. Specialized ransomware protection. It's the security you've been looking for.

Notice that it says Makes antivirus obsolete instead of saying that it IS an antivirus.  That's the difference, and that is our claim.  We simply claim that as long as you have Malwarebytes 3.0 Premium's protection, you do not need to have an active antivirus installed.

Malwarebytes 3.0 is still not an Antivirus. Right off the bat, one of the basic feature an Antivirus have is that it can disinfect infect files (remove the appended code). Malwarebytes doesn't do that, it just detects the whole file as being malicious and quarantines it. There's also file types that aren't targetted by Malwarebytes (scripts for instance: .js, .jse, .vbs, .ps1, etc.) while Antivirus will target them. So it does look like a duck, but it doesn't quack exactly like a duck, so it's not a duck.

Sounds like a joke.....:P

It isn't really a joke. You'll notice that pretty much every Trusted Advisor, Expert, etc. here understand why Malwarebytes isn't an Antivirus.

Hi Aura,

Do you remember "Mamutu" from Emsisoft? (behavior blocker) . What about PC Tools ThreatFire?

From their description:

"  Unlike antivirus software that uses virus detection database for online or offline scanning, a behavioral-based detection tool uses a set of rules to identify suspicious or malicious activity in Windows. The default action by a behavioral-based detection anti-malware program is to prompt the user for action while it halts a process or file."

It seems like every five years or so, the signature-less antimalware is in vogue; even though each and every attempt to use it instead of a classic AV failed.

Now, let's be honest: HIPS and Behavior blockers are not new concepts discovered by MBAM; you have solid players on the market with years of experience and yet none of them would claim that  a signature-less solution is a viable one; but all of them would incorporate either HIPS or Behavior blockers in their programs .

To build a solid antimalware solution requires more than putting together a Malicious Website Blocking (which is at least questionable, look of the amount of FP on forum) an Anti-Exploit and an Anti-Ransomware (beta).

What about a typical virus which is not an exploit or a ransomware item?

Virus and malware are two different things. You should look them up first and try to understand what each of them does. Also, it's not because Malwarebytes doesn't have a module clearly called "Behavior Blocker" that it doesn't rely on behavior blocking technology. Malwarebytes 3.0 still isn't an Antivirus, even the company confirmed it, what else do you want?

OK, what I want is somebody to explain to me how MBAM3.0 is the only security solution I need for my PC, as long as it targets only a limited array of file formats, doesn't perform repairs, definition older than 3 months old are not retained, etc.

I have the feeling that I am being fooled....
