Google Sets Plan to Sell Users’ Endorsements

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/google-sets-plan-sell-users-125826065.html

SAN FRANCISCO — Google, following in Facebook’s footsteps, wants to sell users’ endorsements to marketers to help them hawk their wares.

On Friday, Google announced an update to its terms of service that allows the company to include adult users’ names, photos and comments in ads shown across the Web, based on ratings, reviews and posts they have made on Google Plus and other Google services like YouTube.

When the new ad policy goes live Nov. 11, Google will be able to show what the company calls shared endorsements on Google sites and across the Web, on the more than two million sites in Google’s display advertising network, which are viewed by an estimated one billion people.

If a user follows a bakery on Google Plus or gives an album four stars on the Google Play music service, for instance, that person’s name, photo and endorsement could show up in ads for that bakery or album.

There is no true opt-out unless one gets off the computing grid and even then it will take a few years for most references to go away.

Google and other similar sites know and has all your information for years and can and will by legal means use it when and where they please to earn revenue. If you don't want this type of unwelcome sharing of your photo, name, likes, dislikes, preferences then you have to draw a line in the sand and delete all your Social accounts or understand and realize that all of them are a business and need to make income one way or another and you're information is one way of increasing their revenue.

These sites are not your friends or your family and the only thing you mean to them is a means to an end of making money. They offer up a lot of cool ideas, gadgets, and technology but can be almost akin to the local crack dealer. Today it's free but tomorrow you pay.
