Internet is ok but then goes very slow

Since around a week ago my internet has been playing up.

For the first few minutes of use it's fine, then it goes very very slow (practically unusable). I have to disconnect and connect again, or restart the computer. Then it goes slow again after a few minutes of use.

I contacted AOL who sent me a new router, but it hasn't made any difference.

Any ideas what I can do? I'm going to need the internet soon to do my school work.. slightly panicking as I can't work out what has caused this.

I'm using the latest version of firefox btw.

POST DDS Logs

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool, on Vista or Win 7 right click and select Run as administrator

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

Please run the following steps and let us know if that improves performance or not.

You can try the following.

Shut down the computer and turn off all power to it. Do the same with your modem and router. Turn the power off for them completely.

Leave the modem and router off for 2 minutes. Then turn the power back on for the modem and router and let them run for 2 minutes.

Then turn the computer back on again but this time tap the F8 key and see if you can go into Safe Mode with Networking

Then from within Safe Mode see if the Internet works any better or not and let us know.

Hi:

Please pardon my intrusion.

Is this the same computer for which you also have an open topic in the malware removal section >>HERE<<?

If so, it would be more efficient and less confusing for you and for the members/MBAM staff/helpers if you would continue in only 1 topic at a time. :)

To that end, the moderators may wish to merge your posts here and in the malware removal section, or they may amicably close one or the other topic.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, :)

No, unless you've experienced something that stopped Windows from loading you won't be doing much by choosing Last Known Good as it basically is just a flag that lets the system to know if the last logon was working or not.

Try starting in Safe Mode with Networking and see if that changes anything as far as speed.

Try using another computer on your network and see if it's slow too or not

Guys I need big help here, things seem to be getting worse.

Avast is showing me all kinds of malware now, and pages are taking an age to load (see attachments). Computer seems to be sticking more too.

How do I get safe mode with networking through the msconfig command? The F8 method doesn't work on this computer.
