  1. I've bought a fair amount of stuff from Cyberguys with good results. They have lots of electronics/computer accessories including velcro cable straps in lots of colors. I've bought both the combo packs and the rolls. All have worked great so far. The velcro straps are like those Brother label makers; you find lots of uses for them once you have them. http://www.cyberguys.com/product-listings/?categoryid=107 After you buy from Cyberguys, they send you print catalogs for quite a while (which are entertaining to look at as they have lots of stuff you didn't know that you need/want).
  2. You need to look at your computer's documentation to see how much memory each slot will handle. My personal experience is that 1.5 gig of ram total works very well with XP. Some games are very demanding on video capability. If your machine is relatively low end (integrated motherboard video with shared video memory), you may just be out of luck.
  3. By all means, get your money back if you can. It's important to note that you don't have to buy Malwarebytes to get it's scan and malware removal capablities as well as Malwarebytes forum support. Purchasing Malwarebytes adds realtime protection, scheduled automatic update and scan capability, and you're supporting people that are working hard to keep you safe on the Internet and aren't trying to squeeze every nickel and dime they can out of you. Malwarebytes is designed to co-exist and not conflict with your anti-virus software. Malwarebytes is an "addition to" rather than a "replacement for" anti-virus software.
  4. Yes it is good old CA (formerly Computer Associates). The current Yahoo toolbar's anti-spyware is no longer branded as Yahoo CA Anti-Spyware. It's just plain Yahoo Anti-Spyware now. So, it may not still be a CA product.
  5. Sorry, I didn't read it closely enough. You do have some choices: 1. You could unistall and clean the Norton that's there and the Commodo AV and install an eval copy of NIS 2010 and then follow the directions. 2. Maybe a better idea is to look for the files that the Symantec page said to remove manually. If they aren't there, I'd think that you actually don't have CMJSpy 0.5. 3. Maybe the best choice is to dump Norton and Comodo, and install Avira and mbam. If neither of them find it, you almost surely don't have it. I googled CMJSpy 0.5. Several of the results were to people that found it with the Yahoo CA app (Hmm). One guy said to be sure you are running as an admin when you try to clean it (with Yahoo CA) I also googled the Yahoo CA spyware app and was surprised to find that people generally like it. I don't know what to tell you, but I'll be a bit surprised if it doesn't turn out to be an FP.
  6. I've noticed a delay of up to 5 seconds. I'm pretty sure it's normal (nothing to worry about). Submit you blocked sites IP's on the false positives forum. You'll get an answer there.
  7. Follow the link to the Symantec page provided by AdvancedSetup and then click on the removal tab. You'll find a step by step manual removal process.
  8. The more you can do to lock down your wireless connection the better. So, yes, do what you can. I recommend asking your ISP about providing a WPA2 capable router now that WPA has been cracked. WPA2 has been around since late 2004. Your ISP should have them now. If your AV and Malwarebytes (both with current data) scans say your computer is clean, you can be pretty confident that it is.
  9. I've had a Targus laptop chill pad and a Targus notebook chillhub. Both worked very well initially. I especially liked the 4 USB ports on the self powered chillhub. Unfortunately, in a short period of time both developed noisy fans (bearing noise). I now have an Antec USB-Powered Notebook Cooler which seems to be high quality and has worked very well for several months. There are a number of laptop coolers available at Amazon.com including the I-xoft Fanless Notebk Cooler you are interested in. Most of the cooler pages have reviews by customers that have purchased and used the items. I recommend that you take a look there. FYI, the I-xoft is much less expensive on Amazon.
  10. Andy - You should be able to find the users manual for your router at your ISP's website or at the Netgear website. If you want to be more secure, you need to set a srong access password for your router, make sure the router's hardware firewall is on, lock down your wireless connectivity so that you are the only one that can use it and so that your communications between your computer and router are secure. The main thing to do to secure your wireless is to set up WPA2 encryption between your wirelessly connected computers and the router. You can also turn off ssid broadcasting and specify MAC addressing, but it's the WPA2 that is the key. You want a full encryption key. Steve Gibson (https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm or https://www.grc.com/ppp.htm ) has a very nice utility that will generate one for you. WPA and WEP encryption are second and third (better than nothing) alternatives as both can be broken quickly. If you haven't secured your wireless connection, it's possible that all of your neighbors are using your connection (for free) and observing your transmissions. It could be what's happened to your connection speed.
  11. If you look here there is an explanation of what the IP Protection is and how it works: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21076
  12. Peer to peer file sharing can cause issues; so, be on the lookout for that too. There's lots of money to be made by stealing information. Viruses and malware are increasingly created by rouge professionals funded by criminal organizatons. It is a war.
  13. Sorry swagger. I wasn't questioning what you said at all. I was just suggesting some simple things that Andy could try before changing routers. I think a different broadcast channel could be tried also (as I recall that most routers allow auto or specific channel selection). Andy may be stuck with the router he's got. For example, I have Verizon Fios TV and Internet and the special Verizon supplied router is connected to the TV set top boxes in addition to my computers. Fortunately it seems to work very well with the wireless connectivity fully configurable with WPA2 encryption.
  14. Could it be reception quality (signal strength) between the router and the computer? Maybe you are just too far away for your components to work at top speed. I pretty much use my wirelessly connected laptop from the same spot all the time, but find that the signal strength and speed does vary a bit depending on how the computer is turned. You might try fooling with the router antenna positioning or try moving the router higher or closer the the wirelessly connected computer if you can.
  15. My experience is that if start MBAM protection with Windows is set and IP Protection doesn't start (for whatever reason) when Windows is started, it can't be started later. I suggest that you try turning off start MBAM protection with Windows, reboot, and then try turning MBAM Protection on after your computer is booted up and ready to go. If you are then able to turn IP Protection on and off, you can resolve your issue until MBAM is updated by delaying MBAM protection startup as discussed in this thread: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21073.
  16. AdvancedSetup: Would the method (to start protection) you posted for this thread [CreateService] Failed to perform desired action. Error Code: 1073, Error: [OpenEven] Failed to perform desired action. Error Code: 2 work without a reboot for my case? Click on START - RUN and type in CMD and click OK. type in the following SC QUERY MBAMSERVICE It should show the service is stopped. Now run the following SC START MBAMSERVICE That should start the service and show as successful. Now run the following including the quotes or change to that directory to run it. "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe" /starttray Also, there's my question: Does A Computer Need to be Connected to the Internet at Startup for IP Protection to autostart?
  17. When 1.40 first came out, I had trouble with IP Protection initializing on a computer that connects wirelessly to my router. I was able to resolve the issue by delaying the start of MBAM protection. Today, I turned off the computer's wireless radio and then restarted the computer (I had forgotten about the computer radio being turned off). MBAM Protection launched but without IP Protection checked. I turned the radio on, and the computer connected to the router (and the Internet). I then tried enabling IP Protection, but it wouldn't enable. I then tried turning off MBAM Protection and turning it back on, but still couldn't start IP Protection. Logging on and off didn't work either. Everything worked fine after a reboot. XPSP2 Pro, Norton 360V3, WinPatrol, Secunia PSI
  18. Here's the link to the cleaner http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-clean.exe The instructions for uninstall, clean, and reinstall are: * Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel. * Restart your computer (very important). * Download and run this utility. mbam-clean.exe * It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to). * After the computer restarts, Temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates. Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. The instructions are from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10138
  19. Some people have had computer startup issues related to MBAM protection since V1.40 came out. There is a discussion about delaying the startup of MBAM protection here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21073 . I've had crashing issues with Firefox 3.5.1 & 2 when switching to some secured sites (primarily financial), but I believe they were related to Norton 360. Symantec released a major update last week which seems to have resolved the issues with Firefox crashes. I suggest that you look at the Firefox (Mozilla) forums for crash info. There wasn't a lot of activity regarding crashes when I was looking a couple of weeks ago.
  20. You are welcome. Sorry it's not working for you. You only want to autostart mbamgui.exe. There is no need to autostart mbam.exe. That's what is launching the main application screen.
  21. No question, it should just work. WinPatrol (in this case) is a work around and shouldn't be necessary. I think my specific startup issue was tied to delayed network connection for the specific computer as it has a wireless encrypted WPA2 connection to the router that takes about 30 seconds to initiate as two other computers that I have with the same OS and security software (XPSP2 & Norton 360V3 in addition to MBAM) with wired connections startup without problems. Actually, I'm really pleased with WinPatrol as it seems like the computer is ready to go a little sooner after having staged the startup of three or four programs. In addition, I'm now autostarting a couple of applications that I routinely manually started previously.
  22. WinPatrol works great for starting MBAM Protection (with only the task bar icon) if you just move the instruction that MBAM inserts into WinPatrol's Startup Programs list (when "Start with Windows" is checked in MBAM) into the WinPatrol Delayed Start list. The MBAM program that needs to be (delayed) started is mbamgui.exe. 1 minute worked great for me (your results may vary).
  23. I also had start up issues with MBAM 1.4 which I resolved by doing what dreherd did. I later installed WinPatrol which I am using to stage the load times of Malwarebytes and a couple of other startup programs. There is more information on startup managers here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21073
  24. lensch - There is a very good explanation of IP Protection here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21076 . You can leave IP Protection off. You just don't get the benefit of the feature (which you didn't have before version 1.40). I think it turns back on when you do a restart though. AliceH - look at the link above for the explanation of how IP Protection works. It's not indicating there is an infection on your computer. All - I've had a similar issue with turning IP Protection on and off, but not exactly the same as described here. Based on my experience, what I suggest that you try is to turn off mbam protection "Start with Windows", reboot your computer, and then restart mbam protection after your computer is ready to go. If you find that IP Protection behaves (can be turned on and off), you can decide to manual start mbam protection going forward or look into startup delay utilities. There is information about start up delay utilities here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21073 ://http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/...howtopic=21073 ://http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/...howtopic=21073 ://http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/...howtopic=21073 . I'm using WinPatrol which is working very well. A 40 second delay in starting mbamgui.exe does the trick for me . As they say, your results may vary. While this is a work around, I think it's a pretty good one. With a little tuning, you could end up with faster overall startup times.
  25. Just a follow up: WinPatrol delays the startup of mbam Protection as needed. I also delayed a couple of updaters and added delayed autostart on a cpu monitoring utility that I use and previously manually started. Secunia PSI doesn't want to be delayed as it checks to be sure it's in the autostart list and reinserts itself if it's missing. I think WinPatrol may have a workaround, but it's not important as now that mbam Protection start is delayed, computer startups are fast and stable. I went ahead and purchased the Plus version of WinPatrol. Thanks again YoKenny1 and prairie dog for the help.
