  1. It's probably just because of how slow the securitywonks server usually is (they host a lot of software, including spybot search & destroy).
  2. Yeah, the site's had some serious issues lately, and there have also been some problems with updating in the software as well (but I think only in the pro version with auto updates), but the auto update issue is something I believe they said they were going to fix with a new version in the next few weeks.
  3. I think the issue you're having (and most of the users with auto update issues) has more to do with what's getting fixed in the next version than the site issues (although yesterday and today have been terrible as far as the servers go).
  4. I believe one of the developers mentioned fixing this in the next build, which they expect to roll out within the next few weeks. And as far as malwarebytes.org goes, a mod in another thread said that one of the servers had a hardware failure and is now fixed, and steps were taken to prevent it from happening again.
  5. Hello again Mark, I'm glad it worked. To get help from one of the experts (unfortunately I'm not one myself, just an advanced user) please post your logs in a new topic here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=7 I also recommend that once you post there, that you only post once until someone replies as often, when the experts are browsing that forum looking for people in need of assistance, they will look for threads with 0 replies, and replying to your own makes it display 1 reply, making them think that another expert is already working on it.
  6. One of the mods posted in another thread that one of the servers had a hardware failiure but it's fixed now, and they have implemented a fix so it shouldn't happen again.
  7. I just downloaded 1512 and under fingerprints loaded it shows 61671, I don't think it did the heuristics scan though.
  8. Greetings smartdog. I would think your best bet would be to uninstall, then reboot, then reinstall and see if that fixes it. It's a bit of a pain I know, but at least MBAM can be uninstalled and reinstalled quickly and easily. After reinstalling, do an update to make sure everything is working correctly.
  9. Greetings mkruzel. I've seen it on quite a few myself (I used to be a PC technician). It doesn't really install anything "hidden" or malicious, but it does add an item to the system's startup and loads in the taskbar tray. This can be disabled using msconfig or a tool like Autoruns as it doesn't need to run every time the computer boots. It's just the software for loading pictures from a Kodak camera and is safe, but for the sake of performance, the fewer startup programs there are, the better.
  10. The site has been under huge load lately, for those having this issue for the time being until it gets fixed, which should be soon according to one of the moderators in another thread, please do a manual update and select SecurityWonks.net as the update server.
  11. No worries, when setting it up you can use it's default settings. The registry backup is unnecessary, just be sure to follow the instructions on disabling TeaTimer.
  12. Sounds good. I hope you're able to get it cleaned up.
  13. Greetings and welcome to the forum. To get you fixed up please read the instructions here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2936 and post your logs in a new topic here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=7 Please be sure not to install any software or use any removal/scanning tools exept those that you are instructed to by the expert who will be assisting you as doing so can make their job much more difficult.
  14. At this point, unless you can get booted into Windows, the Avira Bootable CD is your best bet. Instructions on getting it and using it can be found here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...amp;#entry36254 However, if you are able to get booted into normal mode and access your computer, then please read and follow AdvancedSetup's instructions here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...amp;#entry35969 Then download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here: http://majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html Install it, update it and then run a quick scan and remove whatever it finds. Reboot if necessary. After you've removed enough of the infection to get Windows running and have run Malwarebytes', please read the instructions here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2936 and post your logs in a new topic here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=7 Please be sure not to install any software or use any removal/scanning tools exept those that you are instructed to by the expert who will be assisting you as doing so can make their job much more difficult.
  15. Greetings. I would try uninstalling your Catalyst drivers and then rebooting then reinstalling them (newest version 8.12) from ati.amd.com and see if that doesn't fix things. If you see any more curious symptoms and suspect you may still be infected after reinstalling, please read the instructions here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2936 and post your logs in a new topic here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=7 Please be sure not to install any software or use any removal/scanning tools exept those that you are instructed to by the expert who will be assisting you as doing so can make their job much more difficult. I hope I was helpful. Good luck and safe surfing.
  16. Hello and welcome Mark. I'm sorry to hear you are infected, but I'll see if I can help you out. If you navigate to C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and rename mbam.exe, are you able to run it then? If not, then please read the post here by AdvancedSetup and follow his instructions to see if it helps: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...amp;#entry35969 If either option is successful, then please follow the instructions here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2936 And post your logs in a new topic here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=7 Please be sure not to install any software or use any removal/scanning tools exept those that you are instructed to by the expert who will be assisting you as doing so can make their job much more difficult. 17. Hello and welcome. Honestly, probably not, as Windows Defender is usually pretty bad about lagging behind when it comes to detecting new threats. However, it doesn't hurt either. Having a backup layer of protection is always a good thing as long as it doesn't slow your system down (which it wouldn't) and as long as it doesn't conflict with the other protections you're running (which it won't). So I would say keep it around, even if it never catches/blocks anything, you'll be just a little bit safer with it than without it. I also highly recommend SpywareBlaster and Spybot Search & Destroy because they both use a passive method of blocking malicious websites and malicious active x controls without having to run in the background so you don't lose any performance. A good firewall would also be a good idea, like Comodo or ZoneAlarm (both free).
  18. I used the unregister oledb32.dll workaround for now. I'll undo it once MS releases the patch.
  19. Hello again, I'm glad you got up and running somewhat. I read your post saying you followed the instructions, so I'm guessing you found the TDSSServ driver and disabled it. If that is the case, then good as it is a rootkit (basically a very well hidden type of malware that can do a lot of damage). Now that you are able to run Malwarebytes', please read the instructions here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2936 and post your logs in a new topic here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=7 as I posted earlier. This will give one of the elite experts here a chance to look over your logs and eliminate any remaining problems or infections to get your PC running like it should again. I'm very glad you were finally able to get things running somewhat normally again, but please don't skip those steps because I believe you are still infected with something.
  20. Greetings and welcome. Please go to C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and rename mbam.exe to something random and see if it will run, if so, then update it and do a quick scan and remove what it finds, reboot if necessary. If that does not work, then please refer to this post by AdvancedSetup and see if it helps: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...amp;#entry35969 If it works, then please read the instructions here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2936 and post your logs in a new topic here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=7 Please be sure not to install any software or use any removal/scanning tools exept those that you are instructed to by the expert who will be assisting you as doing so can make their job much more difficult. 21. You can tell after it downloads, it tells you the version in the dialogue box that pops up and says "The database was successfully updated from version xxxx to version xxxx."
  22. Interesting, it sounds like the infected PC's drive could be misreading the disc. If you can't get it to read, try booting into windows again and follow these instructions to see if it is the culprate: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...amp;#entry35969 If not, let me know and we'll try something else.
  23. Generally when a download gets corrupted it's simply caused by loss of data during the download and it seldom happens twice in a row, but it does happen, and no big deal on second guessing me, if you have any questions, no matter how simple, let me know as the only stupid question is the one that goes unasked . Also please make sure that the disc you use is clean as that can cause corruption in the burning process.
