  1. On Friday i did switch off "launch Malwarebytes in the background when Windows starts". Using Defender as the only Anti-Virus on my PC.

Today I did start Malwarebytes, ran an update, changed the color from black to white and started a scan - canceled the scan...

and now i can not quit Malwarebytes anymore... using the icon in the task bar and right click - "quit Malwarebytes" results in an error

Right now, everything works fine with the update process.

Every now and then I noticed that Malwarebytes didn´t get any updates for a half day.

    last update was yesterday ...

    image.png.499653d60e5c2376c15ee8c82d567858.png

(since this is a beta test, i look a little bit closer what Malwarebytes is doing - maybe this is/or has been the same for Malwarebytes 4.x and i never cared about it)

  3. Because of the "google block"-problem i had to turn off Web Protection.

Malwarebytes itself show´s it everywhere, but the icon in the task bar is still blue and no note at all, that some Protection is switched off.

The right click on the task icon shows that Web Protection is off, but, if I forget it and leave it the way it is and I don´t care about my

security software - is there anything that remind´s me to switch it on again (like a bubble, different colored icon, text message)?

I will give my feedback on this as well. I have been currently testing malwarebytes 5 since invited. Although I don’t have the endless cycle as described by fretz. One day in particular I didn’t get updates for the entire day but this has since been resolved and appeared to be just a “FLUKE”.

Every now and then I noticed that Malwarebytes didn´t get any updates for a half day.

  5. I have not used my PC since last night, and Malwarebytes starts a scan 5 Minutes after reboot.

What I miss is a notification that a scan is going on right here:

    image.png.12e5a243c77da660ad7554a9090c8be8.png

that would be nice, if you open Malwarebytes and it say´s that it is just doing a scan ...

    or

you can modify the tray icon - like change the colors during a scan (ya and you could allow the user to turn that off).

  6. check for updates in the about tab results in:

    image.png.a4491417b78a2972b8cb7c226e9d8a20.png

for an endless time... (i waited a few minutes)

Update: the same occurs when "check for updates" is used in the General section - application updates.

when closing Malwarebytes with the "X" and reopen it, doing a scan, "checking for updates" is immediately done

    image.png.5b7009c6cb8eafed0bfa9e588eefefd8.png

(I did already quit Malwarebytes and restart ...)

"checking for updates" before a Threat Scan works the way it should work, if there is no update available.

  7. If I add Chrome to the play mode for the first time, by choosing the application and press "open" (instead of clicking on the application itself)

    image.thumb.png.004e690b89c9496417538a95a27703ce.png

    Malwarebytes closes itself.

Chrome has been added, but closing Malwarebytes looks unexpected...

    to reproduce this:

have no other items added to play mode and quit Malwarebytes, after restarting Malwarebytes, add Chrome to the play mode

Would it be possible to have a option, if you want to suspend updates, while using play mode?

    - if I add a game to play mode and feel like playing for a whole day - then Malwarebytes never updates itself for one day?

I did notice the VPN issue sometimes a system restart or a quit of the program and relaunch will fix the problem. I thought that staff was aware of it but it’s worth mentioning.

if you don’t want to restart the system you can quit the program and then re-launch it let me know if this helps. This should fix the VPN issue you are having.

    thank you,

    a restart fixed the problem.

(I thought they cut me off from the VPN, to figure out how Malwarebytes works for me with the VPN showing -  without having it)

  9. Last night i did turn off my computer,

after turning it on this morning, Malwarebytes showed:

    image.jpeg.0513a90636acf505686a48645907d5fc.jpeg

    but looking deep,

    image.jpeg.9a7ce6323b35f1f4f7763b8283ef870a.jpeg

    the last scan was yesterday,

    image.jpeg.dea7d02d354417ba5967acfb70a417d7.jpeg

the last update was also yesterday.

    image.jpeg.a1f37f15f1f9350d4a21f90eac038045.jpeg

after a few minutes, Malwarebytes did run a new scan,

    image.png.c78f3e8961c13fef876e1884569c1a46.png

    and now it´s fine.

    image.jpeg.ef7817d11c82170860427c6d98840bee.jpeg

And by the way, I am not longer Premium plus anymore... i believe that´s intended.

Yesterday I could use the VPN and now it´s "gone".

    image.png.eff54142eff4d4283b37dac3788f5bd4.png

I still don´t see the point using a VPN.. but I did play around with it, to see if there is any change in youtube and so on.

Once connected to the VPN and forcing Malwarebytes to look for a new update - Malwarebytes say´s it has to disconnect the VPN to look for an update and then, you got to switch it on again.

Why is that (might be, because the VPN is now included in Malwarebytes and not standalone anymore)?

    • Thanks 1
  10. Is there any way to include something, (hidden from the non-experienced user), to send you possible infected files just using Malwarebytes?

    or,

maybe you could include a link to the forum with a sentence like "If you think, that there might be an infection on your computer that we missed, than follow these steps to send us your file".

And than you could lead them to a page where you tell them what you need (they need a forum account, and then a virustotal result and so on).

Just to make it a little bit more easy accessible for any user to send you some possible infected file.

For individuals who are not interested in VPN or may use a different provider, we're exploring options to collapse/expand as well as hide/show the dashboard modules such as VPN.

    that`s good for me.

In my opinion, their should be an option for the user to remove the VPN component in the Custom Install menu.
Ultimately this came down to a user experience decision. Should the need arise to establish a VPN connection, we wanted the functionality to be ready on demand without forcing the user to download, install, and setup additional software.

    Hi Aaron,

    i understand your point.

What user experience do you have, when you have not paid for a VPN connection from Malwarebytes?

If you use different VPN, or like in my case - none VPN at all, this looks more like a advertising campain. If you paid for the VPN then it´s a good decision to have it there.

But what will a person think who paid 39 EURO and get something they can´t use at all?

We live in a time, where people have less money, then ever before... and if you tell them, what they don´t have, after they paid quit a bit of money ... in my opinion you will get more people to use the paid version of Malwarebytes by telling them how good they are instead of telling them what they could have done better/or missed.

We intend to monitor this more closely once we're in a beta phase so we can identify opportunities to improve while striking a balance between keeping users informed and avoiding a "nagging" experience where messages are too frequent.

    -> that´s good

As mentioned by others, would be good to have latest virus definitions version on the Tray Icon.
Thanks for the suggestion. We'll look into this. Would you be able to briefly explain how you would use that information? For instance, would the goal be to check whether you have the latest updates? And if so, how would the version number be helpful - how/where would you validate what version number is the most current?

If I can say something to this,

for me it´s not "how", it´s the ability to use it. It feels better if you got something like this - maybe it´s a nerd thing, but people - like myself - will love it.

  13. work´s well...

  14. I find it very easy to upgrade, because the upgrade process stay´s in the same window and it´s easy to use.

    But,

"your subscription will renew automatically at the then-current renewal price on your renewal date. You can disable the Auto-Renew Service after completing your purchase."

This is something many big Antivirus Company´s are doing.

In my opinion it would bring you more trust, to allow people to set the automatically renewal - after they bought the program

(let them decide, not choosing for them).

Because sometimes people forget about it, and after a year they might wounder what´s going on.

Some Antivirus-Test might rate you lower, because of that setting.

If you want to keep it this way, then it would be very helpful to have it clear stated on the account page, that they have a auto renewal going on.

    - by the way, I could not find the account page...

what you could do, there is plenty of space,

    image.png.79947bec73be419d689ca0df86d21db9.png

in here you could state the day´s left, or have a link to the account page.

(I don´t know what it looks like in Malwarebytes 4x because I have a lifetime-licence.)

  15. For decades I was a big Norton Antivirus Fan.

    Why?

Norton Antivirus is lightweight on the Computer, even if that Computer did not have to much power.

    Norton did earn Top-Points in AV-Test´s (av-test.org/pcmag.com and other´s).

Norton has plenty of option´s to play around with - but you don´t have to.

Norton has a quick reacting user-interface - you click the Norton tray icon and it open´s up - like booom.

    Where is Malwarebytes now?

Malwarebytes is lightweight on the Computer, even if that Computer does not have to much power.

    Malwarebytes did earn Top-Points in AV-Test´s (av-test.org/pcmag.com and other´s).

Malwarebytes has plenty of option´s to play around with - but you don´t have to.

Malwarebytes has a quick reacting user-interface - you click the tray icon and it open´s up - in the speed of light.

    What went wrong with Norton?

When you have a look in the Norton Forum you might see plenty of people complaining about the aggressive selling of stuff they have not bought yet.

For example: you buy Norton Antivirus standalone and then you receive pop ups telling you, to buy even more to be secure (like backup, vpn, browser security).

You can not switch them off and as a result, more and more people get really upset.

    Dear Malwarebytes-Team,

you have an excellent Software that is on the top of the ladder - there is no reason for you to step down.

I hope you never think about going in a direction like norton goes right now.

in the "general settings" scroll down and turn off "always register Malwarebytes in the windows security center" this will activate both protections. (If this is what you are looking for.)

yes, now I am happy with the option still there.

    found my mistake...

I double clicked on the icon, if I click once it´s all good.

If I click once or twice on the windows defender icon it just opens it.

I use a program called PDF24 Creator, and you have to click twice on the tray icon to open it, I was used to double click on everything in the task bar.

Clicking twice is the fastest "program" response time I have ever seen in my life. WOW
