I have started using Pidgin though, so I don't get to use most of those anymore unfortunately. There are some really cool ones though ;)

This post is for those on other messenger programs that don't show/understand MSN Emoticons, and are not sure what the default MSN Emoticons mean.

Well I'm relieved, I always assumed (Y) was an obscene way of expressing disapproval.

My client does allow them, but I copy/paste code quite a bit to people. The parenthesis get caught up as smilies way to often, so I've disabled them altogether.

The icons are about the only thing I like about hotmail (they're the same as the ones on MSN). Gmail and yahoo icons are awful.

Thanks for posting these. ;) I have a few friends who use trillian and pidgin, and so it good to have this as a reference for them (though I hardly use IM programmes now, I must admit).

EDIT - having said that, I do like the animated emoticon in Gmail that is a small pile of dung with a few flies buzzing around it. It often sums up my day at work beautifully.
