Legacy Malwarebytes v3.5.1 - Product Lifecycle and EOL

Recommended Posts

Has Malwarebytes made a decision about the date when the legacy Malwarebytes v.3.5.1 for Win XP and Vista will stop receiving malware definition updates (EOL + 1 year according to the policy <here>)?

The legacy installer is still available for download at https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3_legacy but the support article Malwarebytes for Windows v3 Product Lifecycle as been removed from the Malwarebytes Support site, and there is no announcement in the Malwarebytes News board that states when Malwarebytes v3.5.1 will (or already did) officially reach EOL.

The most recent post I could find in this forum confirming that Malwarebytes v.3.5.1 was still receiving regular malware definition updates was Dave-H's 09-Oct-2023 post in anon743's Malwarebytes 3.5.1 not updating definitions... again.

... Ver 3.xx and older stopped getting updates back in March from all the posts on the update issue.

Hi Porthos:

Are you referring to QuiGonJohn's 16-Mar-2024 Have you all stopped making updates? That topic was discussing Malwarebytes v1.75, which reached EOL on 08-Jan-2017.

If you read the footnote in the image AdvancedSetup posted <here> on 25-Mar-2024 in that topic (excerpt re-posted below) it only states that Malwarebytes will make a declaration about v3.5.1 End of Maintenance "at a later date" and that Win XP and Vista users "... will continue to receive any available protection updates that are supported in v3.5.1 until its respective End of Maintenance date".

I can't find any official announcement about the End of Maintenance and / or End of Life dates for Malwarebytes v3.5.1.

Just an FYI that Malwarebytes announced today that Malwarebytes v3.5.1 (the legacy edition for Win XP and Vista) has reached end-of-life.  This EOL is effective immediately and there will be no further malware definition updates released for this legacy product.  See employee jtodd234’s 08-Aug-2024 post in anon74’s Malwarebytes 3.5.1 not updating definitions… again for further details.

I'm not sure why, but as of today there is still no official announcement about the v3.x EOL posted in the Malwarebytes News board at https://forums.malwarebytes.com/forum/11-malwarebytes-news/.  I still have Malwarebytes v3.5.1 installed on my (now rarely used) Vista SP2 machine and often recommend this legacy software to Win XP and Vista users looking for a reliable on-demand second opinion scanner, so a few months warning would have been appreciated.

Exactly.

**  All software v3.51 and older are no longer supported

Those with old versions...

Please note/record your License ID and Key and uninstall your present unsupported version.  You can download and install Version 4 and activate it with your License ID and Key.

Just to clarify, the system requirements <here> state that Malwarebytes for Windows 4.x requires Win 7 SP1 or higher.  If you have a Win XP or Vista OS and are currently using the legacy Malwaerbytes v3.5.1 then David H. Lipman's suggestion to upgrade to v4.x is not a viable solution.

If you have a Win XP or Vista OS

You and all others are finished with Malwarebytes for those OS's. Replace the systems, keep them offline, or find another program.
