Excel is freezing

Recommended Posts

I'm having an ongoing problem with Excel freezing and becoming non-responsive. Searching on the Microsoft site, they suggest anti-virus may be a problem if it is interacting with Excel.

Are you aware of any settings I can change in Malwarebytes and/or Excel to stop it from freezing up?

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your desktop, please upload that file on your next reply

Thanks

It's an intermittent problem so it's hard to say if it is still an issue. I haven't made any changes to anything so I would assume it is still an issue.

To restate (and rephrase) my original question - is there a setting within MB that affects how it interacts with Excel? Does it do any type of checking in Excel when a file is opened or activated?

  • Root Admin

The only possible interaction I'm aware of might be from a potential perceived exploit for some functions that Excel might run or how it's launched. But those would show in our logs and fully block the operation.

We can do some generic general maintenance and clean up of the system if you like. Let m know if interested
