mountaintree16 Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132427 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Just a quick question -ATF cleaner can be used on Vista, correct? I am pretty sure that I read somewhere on here that it can be, but I just want to make sure, since on the site it says XP and 2000 only.
exile360 Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132430 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Yes, it can. Originally their site (Atribune) said that it wasn't compatible, but it now says that it is, even though on part of the page it still says something like "for 2000 and XP only". But just below that on the same page, it says it works with Vista, which I can confirm as I myself use it on Vista x64 .
mountaintree16 Posted September 24, 2009 Author ID:132431 Share Posted September 24, 2009 @ ExileThank you for confirming this for me.
exile360 Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132432 Share Posted September 24, 2009 No problem, this info from their site should prove useful as well:Notes for Windows Vista users:On Windows Vista that "Windows Temp" is disabled, to empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator"Prefetch has been disabled on Windows Vista. As I'm not sure the effects that emptying prefetch on Windows Vista will have for the time being it I won't enable that function.Be sure to run it as Administrator by right-clicking on ATFCleaner and selecting that option . swagger Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132439 Share Posted September 24, 2009 I like ATF cleaner for cleaning other user's temp folder on a machine but I use another product which I'm not sure can be released to the public so I won't give the name. For cleaning off my computer in general, I use CCleaner. Much more detailed in what exactly it is removing.
exile360 Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132446 Share Posted September 24, 2009 I'll bet I know the other product . It start's with a "T" correct? I agree on Ccleaner though, it gets a lot more than ATF, but I do use both on most computers that I work on .
swagger Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132448 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Sure does and I'm sure you have it and use it I agree on using both as I do the same (CCleaner and ATF)
exile360 Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132449 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Yes, the other one actually froze up on an XP box that I initially tested it on. It's a bit too thorough for my taste. Ccleaner and ATF Cleaner will only delete the safest to remove files, which are generally the bulk of them anyway.
mountaintree16 Posted September 24, 2009 Author ID:132450 Share Posted September 24, 2009 @ ExileThank you for the additional information I will remember that.
swagger Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132453 Share Posted September 24, 2009 @exile,Oh really? Did you let the creator know about that? So you think his tool is a bit too intrusive? It says it only deletes the contents of the temp folder and temporary internet files folder.
exile360 Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132455 Share Posted September 24, 2009 It does much more than that, it also gets rid of Hotfix uninstallers and all kinds of other stuff. I let it run once for almost an hour and it kept retrying to delete some files that I guess were locked.
swagger Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132457 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Really? There should be some documentation on that because the way the GUI looks, it only portrays the temp folder and TIF folder.
exile360 Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132458 Share Posted September 24, 2009 I watched it running, it went through a huge list of stuff.
swagger Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132464 Share Posted September 24, 2009 Another thing I don't like about it is that it is not descriptive of what exactly it deleted, like ATF. And there's no log file being created. I may need to stay away from that tool for awhile Thanks for the heads up!
exile360 Posted September 24, 2009 ID:132474 Share Posted September 24, 2009 No problem, I watched it running and it shows a list going by in the window rather quickly as it runs, but I kept noticing it looping back on certain files and retrying and there was no way to cancel and task manager couldn't even kill it so I did a hard reboot, which I really hate having to do . I never tested it on my Vista box though, it might behave better there.

sho-dan Posted September 26, 2009 ID:133496 Share Posted September 26, 2009 Hello mountaintree16 ATF-Cleaner can be use on W98, ME, XP, Windows 2000, Vista and Windows7. Yes I used it on these OSs and it works. Both CCleaner and ATF will complement each other, find what the other one misses. Run a test between the two you shall see the different results. Beside using ATF, CC, I use the one IE provides(Tools>IE options> General> Browsing history)
Maniac Posted September 26, 2009 ID:133501 Share Posted September 26, 2009 There is an urgent need for a new version of the ATF-Cleaner. Some of my friends are complaining that after using ATF-Cleaner, some sites are not displayed correctly in Firefox, as it was before.
swagger Posted September 26, 2009 ID:133541 Share Posted September 26, 2009 @exile,I guess the cat has been let out of the bag So much for us exercising restraint!@Maniac,I know there was some dialog back in May from the creators of ATF looking for feedback and suggestions on a new version but I haven't seen anything since
sho-dan Posted September 26, 2009 ID:133594 Share Posted September 26, 2009 Hello ManiacDo know what sites were affected by ATF via FF and if so, can you post some of them or pm them to me.
Maniac Posted September 26, 2009 ID:133634 Share Posted September 26, 2009 No, I don't, but when I encountered such a case again, I'll send you a link.
mountaintree16 Posted September 26, 2009 Author ID:133695 Share Posted September 26, 2009 @ sho-danThanks I clear the history from the browser too, and then after that I'll use ATF cleaner B) hehe. I haven't tried CC yet, haven't gotten around to it, but I will.
mountaintree16 Posted September 26, 2009 Author ID:133698 Share Posted September 26, 2009 @ ManiacThat's interesting. I haven't had any problems with ATF cleaner and FF so far. I would also be interested in knowing what sites are affected and anything else if it happens again. Thanks for posting about that here so we can be on alert. exile360 Posted September 27, 2009 ID:133839 Share Posted September 27, 2009 Beside using ATF, CC, I use the one IE provides(Tools>IE options> General> Browsing history) B)RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 4351This applies to IE7 and IE8 .
